LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - WAVE News has obtained emergency dispatch audio from a home address linked to Sen. Mitch McConnell in Washington, D.C., recorded the morning of his June 14 hospitalization as his office broke silence Thursday to say the Kentucky Republican “continues to improve.”
McConnell’s office confirmed his hospitalization on June 14, saying only that he was “receiving excellent care,” and provided few updates in the weeks that followed.
WAVE News obtained the emergency dispatch audio directly from the morning of June 14, recorded at a home address linked to McConnell in Washington, D.C. The audio captures dispatchers reporting an unconscious person, CPR in progress, and a cardiac arrest response at the address.
McConnell’s office has not addressed the audio or confirmed the circumstances of his hospitalization.
At his weekly Team Kentucky press conference Thursday, Gov. Andy Beshear said McConnell’s office had not been in contact with him.
“His office hasn’t communicated with me,” Beshear said. “If he’s been in the hospital for several weeks, they need to communicate more directly. I don’t even know if he’s been in the hospital for several weeks.”
Hours later, a McConnell spokesperson released a statement: “Senator McConnell appreciates the outpouring of support he’s receiving while he continues his recovery in the hospital. The Senator continues to improve, and is working closely with his staff on Kentucky and Senate matters while the Senate is out of session.”
In an interview with WAVE News, Charles Booker, the Democratic nominee running for McConnell’s Senate seat, said the situation raised concerns about the senator’s capacity to serve.
“This is a very personal situation for Senator McConnell,” Booker said. “And I know how it feels to have a medical emergency and the toll, the fear, the concerns that your family, your loved ones, your community have. And so, I know this is a very heavy time.
“And I am responding not as a candidate running for office, but as a Kentuckian, knowing how important the role of a U.S. Senator is, the responsibility that he carries for not just the Commonwealth, but the country,” he added. “And we need to know what’s going on.”
McConnell, 84, has dealt with multiple falls, a concussion, two on-camera freezes that some neurologists later suggested may have been seizures, and a hospitalization earlier this year for flu-like symptoms. He has not been seen publicly since June 14.
“The real question here is capacity to serve,” Booker said. “We’ve seen a decline in Senator McConnell’s health for some time, that’s well known. And there have been concerns over his ability to continue in the office. And these are the same types of concerns that were raised about President Biden and his health. We’re seeing a lot of folks nationally raise concerns about President Trump and his health.
“And what we are seeing now and what we’re hearing is even more concerning than President Trump and President Biden because Mitch McConnell is in the hospital as far as we know,” he continued. “And the question is, ‘How is he doing? Will he be able to serve?’ He’s missing votes. And the people of Kentucky deserve to know if their representation, if their voices, will be heard.”
Booker said the lack of transparency from McConnell’s office raised questions about whether the senator had been pushed to work beyond his capabilities and suggested the situation may be more serious than publicly acknowledged.
“I think we need to hear directly from Senator McConnell,” Booker said. “We have been largely kept out in terms of what’s going on with an emergency that took place, again, over two weeks ago. And my concern is that if he is not in the position to serve, what’s happening here? And that’s why I raise concerns of elder abuse. We need to know if our senator can complete his responsibilities for the Commonwealth of Kentucky.”
When asked about the possibility that McConnell may not be able to complete his current term, Booker said: “I’m running for Senate because I am ready to lead. I know what this moment requires. And I know we need a fighter in the Senate who will stand up for us. But in this moment, with so many questions swirling, this is not a time to make calculations about what comes next. For me, this is when we pray. This is when we come together as family. And that’s why I ask the question, as a Kentuckian, ‘What’s going on?’ Not to score points, but to say that we deserve to know.”
Republican Congressman Andy Barr, also running for McConnell’s Senate seat, released a statement saying: “Kentucky is praying for a speedy recovery for Senator McConnell. We are grateful for his service to the Commonwealth.”
McConnell’s seventh and final term ends in January. No timeline for his return has been announced.

A nurse on Twitter said that they have doubts about the statement that was released by his office. She said based on what she heard in the 911 call and if that call for was McConnell that he's probably not doing as well as they claim.
As a critical care nurse, looking at Senator Mitch McConnell’s situation through an ICU lens tells a very different story from the public updates. Following the release of emergency audio detailing an unconscious person and active CPR for cardiac arrest at his residence on June 14, his staff issued a statement claiming he continues to improve and is working closely with his office. However, anyone with extensive bedside experience knows that for an 84-year-old frail patient who has sustained an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest requiring full resuscitation, the idea that he is actively participating in daily Senate business is highly unlikely. The brutal physical trauma of chest compressions combined with the high risk of acute neurological insult makes a return to a high-functioning baseline virtually impossible for someone with his preexisting vulnerabilities. From my clinical perspective, the statistical chances of a full recovery are slim to none, serving as a stark reminder that political status cannot override physiological limits. Who agrees that his constituents and the rest of America deserves the truth?
here's he tweet
oh.omg.I read somewhere that they need to pretend he’s alive until August 3rd.
In Kentucky, an election to replace a senator won’t take place if it’s less than 3 months until the next election - and the likely successor is apparently Thomas Massie.
Expecting the announcement on August 4th.
You seem to know a load more about US politics than me so you’re almost certainly right.oh.omg.
I saw that if the vacancy happens less than 3 months of the next election, then it will stay vacant until the next election. I could be wrong about this.
In May 2026 Kentucky Primary election, Rep Thomas Massie lost his Republican primary race to a Trump-backed challenger, eliminating him as the default front-runner to take over the seat. Instead, Representative Andy Barr won the high-profile Republican primary for the Senate seat. Because Mitch McConnell previously announced he would not seek re-election, Barr is the official Republican nominee positioned to take over the seat in the general election.

Hunter is my new favourite Twoll, he's extremely funny and on point
Their conversation, the fourth one this year, was not only formal but also business-like and constructive. The leaders candidly discussed current issues on the bilateral and international agenda. Incidentally, that conversation lasted nearly an hour and a half, or more precisely, 85 minutes.
Oh, 'naturally'. Though with any luck someone will get to speak to Trump before the summit and de-program him.Naturally, the presidents also talked about a Ukrainian settlement, including in light of Donald Trump’s participation in the upcoming NATO summit in Turkiye on July 7–8.
I never really had time for Hunter before but the clapbacks he is giving online is frigging hilarious. They have the cheek to shame him for being a recovering addict when their cult leader's son is so bad he can't last two minutes before having to take something, even if a camera is there. At least Hunter owns who he is.
Trump checking in with his "handler" before the NATO summit, being told what to say and do in the interest of (cough) world peaceNot seeing much of this though that might be the government oppressing my feedsor it's all the '250' spam.
Found on the Kremlin presidential news page, notes on a call between Trump and Putin yesterday, ending with a remark that it was Trump calling Putin (or presumably officials of each as opposed to person-to-person) some time after Putin's congratulation message to the US completely unironically mentioning "their struggle for freedom from British rule", bloody conquering empires eh.

Trump holds 90-minute call with Putin, also speaks with Zelenskyy ahead of NATO summit
President Donald Trump offered to help find a solution to the Ukraine war, Kremlin officials say, after multiple past attempts to end the conflict failed to bring about an agreement.www.nbcnews.com
So, bigly Trump speech in a few days' time, will there be new words or just a re-hash? Will anyone dare to correct him on the spot, or just let him ramble for the sake of a quiet life and on the reasonable assumption that people who needs to know he talks balls will ignore what's said anyway?
that account you post has been staying on this story.Mitch McConnell’s wife hurtled off to China to meet with officials while he was in hospital.
( According to some things I’ve read, she is his next of kin, so would need to be at his bedside for any medical decisions. Which may or may not explain the unseemly haste to leave the country. )

Thank you for sharing this. I've seen this guys post and I've seen Desiree Townsend going back and forth with him. I'm glad that Desiree is staying on this topic and it's backing down from it.You seem to know a load more about US politics than me so you’re almost certainly right.
