I'm heartbroken on behalf of those massively let down by the downgrading of results. I hope Jade and co don't drag it out this week with all the manifest, redirection stuff. Yes rejection = redirection might apply in a normal year where a student has legitimately done worse than predictions and missed out on uni. This year however, for students who deserved AAA and got CCC for example, i.e a MASSIVE portion of the cohort, saying "gap yahhhh" or "manifest an alternative path" is just a massive slap in the face. So many students have been massively let down after such a shitty year, through no failing of their own.

Look at her third most recent tiktok (don't worry, you don't need the app)

In case you can't see it, here's a copy of the text:
"The Head of Sixth Form saying she can't put my photo on the Head Girl Wall bc I was rejected from Oxford and I'm taking a gap year"
"Me, having worked hard my whole school life :("
"Me one day graduating from a uni I LOVE after a gap year I LOVED"

My thoughts on this: really doubt that's true lol? And she tries to make out that there's some stigma around gap years, but they're literally what every rich kid does after A levels, including those who get A*s... Also, it's really weird that, over two years on, she's still going on about Oxford.
I highly doubt a school wouldn’t put up a photo over something so insignificant, in theory that teacher could be accused of having a bias etc
I find it weird she still clearly bothered her teacher wouldn’t put up a picture let alone Oxford 😂if she’s so happy why does it matter if her photo is on a pinboard somewhere she doesn’t even go anymore

YES! Jade literally fails to fully acknowledge the fact that her already heightened level of privilege from being white, combined with the fact she has access to money (both her own and her family’s) gives her the chance to do so much more!!

Fine she can do that, but come ON, it’s nothing to do with manifesting, it’s to do with your already heightened level of privilege 🥴

Jesus, where does Minerva even find these hellhole accommodation blocks? There's no room for anything other than sleeping, you can't even study in there. Even in London where accommodation is so expensive and densely populated, 99% of students have their own room. You'd only end up in a shared room if you specified it on your application (e.g. to save money). I bet Minerva are raking in profit from their accommodation charges. From their website, "residential services" i.e. accommodation costs $11,000 a year. So that's roughly £700 a month, which is pretty standard for a student room in London - but this a room shared between three people! And that isn't even accounting for the fact that Minerva says the accommodation charge varies according to city, so you can bet they're charging way more than $11,000 a year for their students in London.

You could easily find a lovely house share in London for £700 a month where you get your own room (that you could fit a wardrobe and a desk in - wow!), yet these students are willingly paying in excess of that to live in a depressing box room with two other people. Maybe they could use their critical thinking skills to figure out that being charged $11,000+ to live in a hostel is perhaps not value for money. The phrase more money than sense comes to mind.
I can’t even bear sharing a bed with my boyfriend, sharing one cramped room with two other students I potentially didn’t know is the stuff of my nightmares...

There is an obvious effort to prove Minerva is different, in her grading video she explains everything is out of 5 and she’s aiming for a 3-3.5 minimum (multiply that by 20 and you have an out of 100% scoring system with her aiming to get 60-70% which is a 2.1 at loads of universities with the same grading system). It’s literally the same as a lot of unis (I am aware of other unis with different grading systems that aren’t perecentages).

It could be that I’m from a working class family, I comuted to uni I live in Scotland and it’s the kinda done thing here unless you come up from England or need to move down from the highlands- but I was always of the belief you went to uni to get a job... I don’t see how Minerva makes people more so employable. My experience as an engineering student and now a graduate engineer, I don’t imagine the “unique learning experience” would get you a better position than someone who went to literally any uni in the UK and grafted hard on summer placements/internships... is this just me missing that uni isn’t literally just an additional qualification???
I don't think their main focus here is becoming more employable...
This all smells so much like privilege to me, doing all they want in the moment without any worry about the future

So she's not going to Seoul this autumn but is going in January instead and won't be going to India. She has to choose between studying in London or Berlin for her autumn semester. Idk why for a uni that's taught entirely online they don't just let their students stay at home for the autumn semester rather than expecting them to travel at a time where travel is dangerous?

Has it made anyone else angry that she is studying in a cafe? Occupying a seat for hours in a reduced space and blocking other people from spending money there ? I hope she’s not just buying one coffee 🙄
even more so in a video which got taken down she said to bring an empty reusable cup so you don’t have to buy anything while there. Maybe that’d be fine in a chain but really damaging for small businesses 🙄

I just find it ironic how her supposed years of learning, interest and research into social justice causes, environmentalism, being part of a fair and equitable world etc, have led her to... marketing? For someone who spends so much time trying to teach others about equality, it's somewhat ironic that her focus is now on helping corporations to make more money. Especially given her recent videos on minimalism - sort of contradicts the whole purpose of marketing, which is to reach more customers, make more sales, and encourage endless, unfettered consumption! I wish she'd give some sort of critical thought to capitalism and her place within it, but I guess they don't teach that in Silicon Valley.
She's trying to be the wokest capitalist ever, being sure to check all the boxes, cover all her bases, get all the points with the least amount of effort. Stay on top of as many trends as she can. I'm sure she feels she fits right in to the Silicon Valley space. Amazing how much she's changed from when she first started her channel. I guess when she realised how she could make $$$ from it, that was the beginning of the end. And of course we all know her dad is already good at selling his soul for JP.

Everything that comes out of her mouth these days is privileged cliched white girl MLM speak. Manifest your dreams! Network!

All the finger snapping and gurning and pouting is really off-putting too.
exactly! when she said: "if you have a shitty job that you don't enjoy, go home and manifest having another one" i could not believe what i was listening to!

Honestly used to be a massive fan of Jade, but since Minerva she's become so smug and pretentious. I think it was her BLM Q&A that pissed me off the most and ultimately changed my opinion of her. She's a middle class white girl, why should she snatch the voices away of BIPOC for her own personal elevation?

It's like she suddenly thinks she's an expert on literally anything because she read a book or an article. I used to think it was just her genuinely wanting to share information out of passion but now it seems so sanctimonious and condescensing because it comes off as if she thinks she knows absolutely everything. It'd be much more bearable if she just gave recommendations rather than giving watered-down, rehashed explanations like we're children. Everything she posts now just seems like she's trying to prove that she's some minimalist, together, all-knowing wonderwoman who's here to rescue everyone from not knowing about credit scores and BLM! It's such a shame. She was a lovely YouTuber back in the days of school, but now she's just fallen into the privileged middle-class-but-thinks-they're-really-woke archetype.

Jade seems perfect to be an MLM boss in her future. She speaks that kind of language. I've currently got a friend on Facebook who out of the blue is some "boss" in a trading type MLM thing, to do with money and is now constantly posting on facebook when they never used to post more than once a month before. All posts about manifestation, leveling up, trusting fate, believing in yourself, invitations to contact her for "advice" on how to get involved, etc..

this isn't actually true - the memorial she's talking about is actually called the 'Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe' so it is just a jewish memorial which maybe be why she phrased it as she did. but i do agree i found the way she spoke about it a bit vague and surface level - although it could just be that she doesn't feel sufficiently educated to speak extensively on the topic, which is fair enough.

EDIT: sorry just saw @raiment posted the same thing above!
ahhh sorry i wasn't aware of this! thank you both for pointing it out . i feel like ive learned more than a year in minerva would've taught me already 🤣

Ugh jades TikTok.....
It’s like she’s just trying too hard to make this relatable content but in doing so she actually makes herself look like a bit of a privileged snob. Either that, or she comes across as just being this ‘beacon of positivity’ and ‘guru of all mental health’ and bangs on that ‘loving yourself Is the key to all happiness’. She’s just in another world. Completely. And. Utterly. Away. With. The. Fairies.

I'm from the UK and it's really embarrassing to see so many Brits going on foreign holidays when Covid is very much not under control, and we're seeing a worrying increase in cases in the UK.

Nobody is entitled to a foreign holiday, and it puts other countries at additional risk, including people who have to travel internationally for work/personal/non leisure reasons.

It seems like a nightmare to me. Sharing a room with someone, not even having your own desk space (at least, i didn't see any), having classes that late at night... None of it seems conducive to a good study environment. Why would you want that??

Her Minerva experience will be 4 years of showing off to the world how casual, magical, white, rich and privileged she is.

She knows that this will go down like a lead balloon so she goes on about diversity and positivity to try to balance out the toxicity of her content.
