UK Politics #28

Even the Deputy PM is effectively knifing Starmer in the back now, by campaigning to elect the man who would be the new king and depose Starmer (because the rest of them are too weak or scared to do it).

Imagine the Deputy PM actively campaigning for her party's chaos to continue.

So if Bodybags doesn't get elected ... it'll be another election that she's failed at (she was there every day at Denton and Gorton, and then the local elections) AND she's failed to stand by the man at the top and unite the party ... she'll have to go, surely?

So how come they are needing to "beat Reform" and (on other posts) starting to trot out the "only Labour can beat Reform" rubbish that has failed in those other elections. Thought it was supposed to be one of their safest seats. Why did Burnham pick a seat that was or is at any risk at all?

Less than two years since coming to power and this is the state they're in already.

If Burnham doesn't get elected I will find it very funny. He's obviously so confident that once he's in he'll become PM. he's coming across as a bit of an arrogant twit IMO. I used to like Burnham but I've gone off him after all his shenanigans

I'm here for the memes, going to be epic if he loses in fact I think that should be the rallying cry for his opponents.

Could only find this article about Q Manivannan via the Times, surprised other outlets haven’t said anything (from what I’ve seen). I’ve shared screenshots below as unfortunately it’s behind a paywall and the link via there didn’t work. Essentially Q said they came from a lowly background and they didn’t.

I’m absolutely not a reform supporter but I absolutely will howl with laughter if Burnham loses. The absolute arrogance of him - thinking he can just rock up and become PM.

It is total arrogance of both champagne socialist Burnham and the Labour party.

It is beyond arrogance actually and beyond democratic. To beg the good people of Makerfireld to vote for such duplicity. They will never ever be re-paid by Burnham, they will barely see him. It is no kudos to have the PM as your MP, as they basically do nothing for you, they are too busy in Downing Street.

Hope they send parliament a message, that votes cannot be bought. Am tired of people knocking on your door, wanting your vote, then doing absolutley nothing for you, or nothing that they promised.

I know there are some extremely intelligent, knowledgeable people on this thread, so I’m sure that at least one of you will come up with a reasonable answer.
“How EXACTLY does one misunderstand a swastika?” And it’s nothing to do with Buddhism.

The Hindu swastika is flat whereas the Nazi one is at an angle. From the photo it does look like his is flat. But I think it’s one of thee three: he got into hippy dippy nonsense and mashed up all the different eastern religions, his wife got the wrong religion or he wanted to get the Nazi one but wanted a get out clause. Whatever the reason it’s bloody silly for someone in the west to get any type is swastika tattoo, especially as he’s a white guy.

I cant see him losing, tbh. Restore are taking a lot of the Reform vote, which is probably enough to let Burnham win.

If Burnhan wins is it definitely slated that a new leader will be called for? If that happens could there be a chance that someone bar Burnham could win that?

Nothing is 'definite' but I think it's obvious that if Burnham gets in it won't be long before there is a call for a no confidence vote in Sir Keir. Interestingly though, I've seen a few political commentators that think Sir Keir would actually win it.

Almost 1000 small boat arrivals since Friday , that is staggering just in the last few days.

Numbers will climb too now it’s the summer it’s utter lunacy …coming to a town and neighbourhood near you …

It is crazy I can’t comprehend the numbers.

The cost is huge to house, feed and provide nhs and dental and the rest. I’ve a fiend working in a hotel an it’s mind blowing 🤯

Just bringing this over from the last thread

It was just reported that net migration fell to its lowest since 2012, though some people are claiming without proof that the people leaving are skilled.

The number of asylum seekers in hotels waiting for their claims to be approved fell, and did the number of people coming here by boat.

BBC News - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cvgzjpd1jjgt?app-referrer=deep-link
UK net migration drops to 171,000 in 2025, lowest since 2012 excluding pandemic - BBC News

This kind of reporting is exactly why people are turning away from the main parties (not that I think any of the others are or will be any different)

We all know that the asylum seekers living in hotels haven't disappeared, they have just been moved into an HMO so bleeping well say that instead of pretending they've evaporated into thin air.
As for migration figures, no one knows exactly who left or who arrived.

They did some polling of Labour members a bit ago, and Burnham and Rayner were the only ones who'd beat Starmer in a 2 way vote. It almost certainly wouldn't be a two way vote though.

If you have eyes and ears you can see that immigration is through be roof…my town is unrecognisable from a decade ago.

Its madness what has been done and thats why Reform and Restore who were not anywhere are now having a huge surge.

People are sick fed up of it and that’s putting it mildly.

The hospitals, doctors, schools, housing is on its knees.

To add to the discontent new flats have been built near me absolutely lovely…council allocating a fair proportion to so called asylum seekers that have never ever worked or paid a penny in …it beggars belief!

The flats are part private part council and council are allocating their ones to migrants.

No other country on the planet would roll out the red carpet like we do …it’s unbelievable.

I hope there are mass deportations for anyone arriving and expecting to be homed and kept for free never to contribute. Meanwhile ordinary folks struggle
