Has anyone else been following the Astley warehouse fiasco in Wigan? It’s not Makerfield but a bordering constituency (I think). From the comments in the Instagram page residents don’t really feel Burnham has helped them in his role as GM Mayor.

Burnham doing U turns before he's even become an MP lol you couldn't make it up, well actually you could.

Parliament, particularly those sitting in it are long past being fit for purpose.

We can’t discuss that, or hold the Israelis accountable, that would be antisemitism
No, it's not, you can hold some Israelis to account for their actions. What you can't do is hold ALL people who happen to share the same religion or ethnic background to account for another nations actions. It would be classed as anti-semitism, if you were to say, for example, that all Jews or Jewish people are responsible for the actions of the Israeli government or Netenyahu himself.

Yeah. Whether it is right for him to become PM that way or not is another question. I think it is clear he will stand for leader as soon as he becomes MP. But the initial comment was whether he has to vacate an MP role to become PM, which he doesnt.
Apologies for not answering that.

Blair was constituency MP for Sedgefield, Sunak for Richmond and Northallerton, both in the north of England. They may not have been able to do as much as they would have liked for constituents while being PM, but they certainly did beforehand. Sunak is still the MP for that region, which is kudos to him, as many of other past PM's simply leave the HoC, go to the HoL or some other heady post after serving as PM.

I’m well aware, don’t think everyone is though.

Or they get jobs at international firms doing big speeches

You do have to be a standing MP to lead the Labour party though, so technically you have to be an MP to be a Labour PM

The Labour Party's own rules require the Party Leader to be an MP. The Tories and maybe other parties could technically get away with a PM who sits in the House of Lords, but Labour simply cannot, unless they change their constitution.

Burnham's toast. Apparently Starmer says he's going to support him in the by-election. Absolute kiss of death. Fair play to Keith, this is a genius move by him to kill off the challenge. Appears that none of the rest have the balls to make the first move and put down a leadership challenge, so it's all down to Burnham, and he's definitely done now.
