Has anyone had any success in getting this done through their doctor rather than privately? (Please only reply if through NHS)

Please share experiences to give this 36 year old some hope!

Following this as I want this procedure too. I have a son and I’m currently pregnant. I’m fully expecting the no answer!

I had mine done age 22. It was offered to me while I was pregnant and I accepted as at the time it seemed a good idea rather than relying on contraception (ridiculous as that sounds) . I never asked for it and have since regretted it and asked for a reversal which was refused.

Wow.. to be offered it at 22 seems very strange. How many kids do you have?

Its strange how they decide who to give this procedure to. I also know people with multiple children who have also asked for years and continue to be refused.

I know this is an old thread but I'm due to have this procedure and now getting nervous and wondering whether I'm making the right decision. I'm done having kids I know that much. I have very bad periods so gynaecology want to do a cervical ablation after which if I was to get pregnant it would be dangerous as the cervical wall is blasted away so the consultant suggested getting my tubes tied at the same time. All sounds great but then I googled it and there were woman saying after getting their tubes tied they had symptoms like insomnia depression loss of libido! I don't want to go ahead if that's the case!

Any ladies had their tubes tied? What was your experience? Would you recommend? Any hints or tips post surgery?

As I said I'm done having kids so that's not holding me back it's whether it's gonna replace one problem with another. My periods every month are painful and heavy this is supposed to take that problem away but I don't want to replace it with more problems.

Not sure if you've had it done already. The turn-around for mine was 6 weeks. I had it done when i was 30, not long after my daughter died. The whole situation gave me the absolute fear of having any more babies (I have 2 boys as well). The only side effects I have are heavy periods which I take tranexamic acid for. No insomnia, no depression, definitely no loss of libido for me.

I was booked in for a morning slot. Your on a conveyor belt, literally in and out same day. Make sure you have someone to watch your kids because all I did was sleep when I got home. Its like the sedative hadnt worn off, it proper wiped me out. A few days after, I didnt feel right. Light headed, just a bit ill, but then I had had doctors inside my womb the day before so be mindful of that. They say on the forms that you can go back to work after but don't do that. Take a couple days off at least, especially if you're running round after kids too. If you don't want anymore kids, i'd 100% recommend it. It is very final though. You can have it reversed but reversal doesnt always work so make sure this is something you want 100% and you're not going to change your mind 5-10 years down the line.

I was 31 turning 32 and was toying with the idea. They were prepared to do it during my third c section. I don't know if it was so easy for me because it would have been dangerous to get pregnant again. In the end I decided no because I was worried about any hormonal effects and partner got the snip

Thanks for the replies ladies. JTsFringe thanks for so much detail that's very reassuring and im glad your experience had been positive that is very ressuring for me. I take tranexamic acid already for heavy periods and they do help but not so much with the pain and cramping.
The cervical ablation is supposed to blast away the lining of my cervix therefore my periods should then be very light, but also very dangerous if I was to get pregnant so that's where the sterilisation comes in.
Like yourself Onepotatotwopotato I'm very worried about any hormonal effects. I'm very sensitive and seem to react to any changes to my body. I've tried hormonal forms of contraception before such as the marina coil and the pill and I react badly to them, I'm just worried how my body will react to this. I've googled both procedures and it's just the worry stories of regret and 'post tubal litigation syndrome' where women experiencing a raft of symptoms that have only come on since getting their tubes tied. I'm just really conflicted as whether to go through with the op or not as it would be great to not have to worry about heavy periods, period pain and contraception but if it means it will be replaced with depression, night sweats, loss of libido, sleep disturbances? Is it worth taking the chance it there is a genuine possibility that I might experience those symptoms? Just would love to hear from anyone else who has had either procedures or preferably both.
