That’s heartbreaking. He’s so far behind. My youngest son is 7 and severely autistic. He attends a specialist school with only 2 other boys in his class and all children have a 1-1. He’s mostly non-verbal but his numeracy skills are mad, he can count to 100. Understands adding and taking away etc. he’s really fixated on numbers. Hes started saying his alphabet and I asked his teacher if they’ve been learning it at school & she said they do phonics but not abc’s. He’s been teaching himself when he has screen time at home on his iPad!! If you ask him to get his shoes or juice though he looks at you like you’re crazyOh gosh that's heartbreaking. He's so far behind.
If he was in school he would be finishing year 2.
Here are some of the expectations for children in year 2. I know every child is different, but he's not anywhere near this and he should be starting year 3 this September.

For anyone interested in some extra reading (unfortunately not Jace, as he isn't able to)
children absorb so much information. Because he can’t speak we didn’t think he was really taking it in. He’s just started to write “J” for his name by himself without hand over hand help from an adult. He’s come on so much since September & the school have provided so many learning opportunities we just can’t at home. I think Jace and Mila would be thriving in school had they started at preschool age. Even the older ones can’t spell/use punctuation properly. It’s basic skills they need in the real world. They’re really going to struggle to find any kind of job or go into any education with absolutely nothing behind them.
