I’d never heard of this Dishoom place. Looks/sounds great! I want to go.

I can recommend Saravanna Bhavan (chain) for lovers of veggie South Indian cuisine, but if Punjabi delicacies are more to one’s liking, definitely check out Tayaabs and Lahore Kebab House. All in East London.

Also Massala Zone (chain) was very good, I was surprised.

This thread has really made me want a chicken jalfrezi from Akbars in Manchester, the meat is so soft and tender. I've tried a few other Akbars, Birmingham and York, but Manchester always seems the best for me. Might have to drive down for a takeaway.

Dreaming of dishoom keema pau and black daal now.

I prefer dry tikkas when I get indian, lamb and paneer in particular. At home I do chickpeas in a peanut sauce and it is dreamy.

I LOVE curry!!

I tend to order a jalfrezi, korai, or sagawhalla, sometimes a bhuna.

I'm on a British Indian curry cooking group on Facebook as I'd love to be able to master that method of cooking. Keep pondering over "the curry guy" cookbook to try to but hear some mixed reviews.

Does anyone enjoy cooking curry from scratch? Base gravy and all? Would love to hear your experiences.

Do you have a recipe for your chickpea dish? It sounds lovely!!! Is it more satay style?

It's a bit of a rough mish mash of styles I think!

Roughly:
1 can chickpeas
1 can tinned tomatoes
(Add extra optional veg - i like cauliflower or spinach)
1/2tsp turmeric, 1/2tsp garam masala, sprinkle of: coriander, ginger (i would add in half a thumb of fresh ginger if I have it)
Chilli powder to taste
1tbsp peanut butter, stirred in

If you’re in London, they’re doing 50% off between May and June at their refurbed Covent Garden restaurant. They’re taking bookings too if you can still grab a table!

Any Surrey based curry lovers on here?
Ive just found quite possibly THE most authentic Indian restaurant I've ever been to.
Its not your " Go to the pub for a few then fall into the nearest curry house" kind of place.
Basic decor, fairly small menu, LOTS for vegetarians, open kitchen, 2 sittings, early = 6.30 - 8.30 late 8.30 - close
Its in the michelin guide . .
Look it up . . Dastaan
I went for my birthday last week, when my OH said were going for a curry, ngl, I was a bit pissed off thinking "curry?" We can have a curry anytime cant we?
Fast forward a week and we've already booked to go again . .

There were 5 of us so we had most of the menu between us . .
Aside from the samosas, I cant remember the names of the starters ( they were all vegetarian and absolutely delicious)
Mains, we had a biryani, a lamb shank dish, a brocoli tikka, a fish dish . .
Everything was just SOOOO flavoursome, I truly cannot wait to get back there
