Apologies if I am telling you all something you already know, but as a fellow curry lover, (who could also eat it every day 😍) I was always trying to make curry like I'd get in a takeaway/restaurant. By joining some curry groups on Facebook, I found out that the takeaway curries (i.e. vindaloos, kormas, madras etc) are classed as the British Indian Restaurant (BIR) way of cooking. It is quite the process to make them, but it's so worth it, as you're more likely to get the BIR taste (if that's what you're looking for - I personally love a traditional Indian curry like a Dhal just as much as I love a vindaloo!). I have started using the methods from Misty Ricardo who has 2 recipe books out and is also on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. Other members from the curry groups really rate "The Curry Guy" and Glebe kitchen amongst others.

Just thought I'd pass this on, in case it is helpful to anybody 🙂

I could eat curry every day of the week 🤤

I alternate between Chicken madras, Chicken Vindaloo or Chicken Jalfrezi. With Pilau rice, Bombay potatoes and garlic naan 🤤🤤🤤

I have to admit, when someone tells me that their go to is a korma I throw up a little bit. Like - to me that is just so sweet that it could be classed as a dessert 😂

Please do share the recipe - love a good dhansak 😋

And the naan recipe is Gemma Stafford’s multi purpose ‘Crazy Dough’ recipe. Her YouTube channel is called Bigger Bolder Baking.

I like using ghee in measured amounts - it is worth it definitely in certain recipes, I always use it if I’m making dupiaza. I don’t use it all the time though cos of the sat fats like you say! Lasts forever too
I might take the plunge and try it (and try to keep it under control) Also useful to know about its longevity, as I hate it when stuff that goes rancid quickly.

I like a biriyani . . I usually request the vegetable curry to have a bit of heat added to it.
The best bit for me though is keeping some of the rice back, heating it through for breakfast and topping it with a runny fried egg. Heaven.
I like most dishes tbh . .
Its great dining with others and all having tastes of everything.
Saying that though, I've also dined with people who pile a whole pilau rice on the plate, dollop the whole dhansak on top and woof through the whole keema naan, no sharesies, no dipping whatsoever 🤣
Who are these weirdos?
Love this 🤣 the first time I got a curry with my boyfriend was at my house from my usual takeaway and I said the rice is quite a big portion so we can share it, and said let’s have a bit of each other’s main too - I laid the rice and our two dishes out between us on the table, did my usual taking a few spoonfuls of rice, then I put some of my curry on the plate and had a little bit of his. He then picked up the carton of rice and shovelled the entire remaining contents onto his plate, put the whole of his curry on top then said ‘I’ll try yours when I’ve made room’ I was in shock 😂😂 I said I might like some more rice when I’ve had this?? And he was like ‘oh I thought you’d taken what you were going to have’ just didn’t get the concept of sharing and having bits of each other’s at all 🤣 luckily he does now!!

My go to curry is a chicken tikka korma. I like a creamy curry over a tomato based one and I don't enjoy very spicy food. My sides of choice would be pilau rice, naan and poppadoms with chutneys. 😋

I'm not sure why there's always so much snobbery over milder curries. Some people seem to think they're elite because they like spicy food. Who's even arsed what other people order? 🤣

Love this! My favourite is a King Prawn Jalfrezi. I’m fortunate that I’ve got a really good Curry House near me.

Could live off curry 😂 made a paneer saag last night, prawn dhansak, pilau rice and peshwari naan is my usual order in a restaurant/takeaway. I travel all over the UK for work and love going for a curry in different areas, to see how they vary. Went to a small restaurant in Solihull the year before last which was insane 🤤 there’s an Indian supermarket near us with a vegetarian cafe attached to it which do incredible samosas.

I am one of those boring people who orders exactly the same every time, but I don’t care, I bloody love it.

Sounds like a lot, but it lasts me dinner and then a couple of lunches 😂

Tandoori chicken tikka or chicken shashlick
Plain boiled rice
Saag paneer
Cauliflower bhaji
Peshwari naan
Extra yogurt dip
Mango chutney
This amazing red coconut stuff I’ve no idea what it’s called.

Hi,

I am a big curry fan. Nothing better than a ruby and a beer every now and then. So what’s your “go-to” dish? Do you ever vary your choices?

Admittedly I have more take out curries than home-made and I vary from Dhansak to Madras to Rogan Josh but always ask them to up the spice level a few notches! 🤤

Anyone make their own? Do you wish to share your recipes?

Let’s make this thread a celebration of spice ☺

We are having spicy sprouted mung bean soup for lunch with idli and Chickpea Curry for dinner. We eat some kind of spicy food every day.
If you cook your own 2 great Indian sites are :-

This is my favourite thread to date. I could live off curry everyday. People who prefer Chinese?? Weird.

Go to dishes
- Dopiaza
- Passanda
- Mahkani
- Rogan Josh
- Jalfrezi

I usually get a combo of the two, a creamy one and a more tomatoey one then a side of Bombay potatoes and egg rice (don’t judge me it tastes insane with curry)

bread
- peshwari naan
- chapati
- garlic naan

I’m the same - I do like it if someone else gets one just to have a tiny bit on the side but it is soooo sickly. I like making a proper authentic style korma with korma curry paste but no double cream etc, just using tomatoes and onion for the base, maybe some coconut milk. I think the sickly overly sweet creamy korma is a thing for the British market.

If I order a curry it’s almost always a lamb dhansak.

At home I make my own version of chicken dhansak, Thai red/green curry with beef or chicken or pork, Sri Lankan beef or pork curry. Always rice with Sri Lankan and Thai curries, roti with Indian.

For veggies, sometimes I do an Indian styled mixed veg and sometimes Sri Lankan beetroot or green beans curries or red lentil. Sometimes Indian channa masala.

Basically I cook/eat a lot of curries.

Btw I will share my dhansak recipe if you like.

Oh I love a good curry. I make lentil daal but I never find currries I make taste as good as an Indian takeaway.
I find the Spice tailor kits from the supermarkets tasty. Way nicer than a jar sauce or paste.
Lately I’ve been picking a karahi with paneer or vegetables from a takeaway. Just the right level of spice for me. I like a chapatti, easy to make yourself too.
