Our house went on the market 2 days ago and today we've received a planning notification from the attached house. Bit annoyed as we know them well and they've never said anything about it.

It's for a massive extention.

But do we object or not? I believe there are material grounds and i wouldnt like to live next to itif we're staying. The estate agent said wait and see what people say but we'd loose the time to object if we're not careful.

What would you do??
What do you want to object to? Unless you’re sure you have relevant grounds, I wouldn’t bother for the sake of your sale, you don’t want neighbour disputes or to have in writing why it would be bad when it comes up on the searches.
Is it architect designed? They’ll have likely sought professional guidance on what’s allowable.
The council themselves should refuse if it’s a loss of amenity or bulking issue so you don’t need to go hard on that. Visuals will depend maybe on precedent and if it’s seen from the road. Loss of privacy will probably mean they’d just stick them with a condition to move/obscure any windows…. Extensions are often hard to find relevant objections to.

Without outting myself too much it would be overbearing and effect our amenity space alot. And it's visible across the valley we live in.

The application is just the drawings and doesn't contain any information of the setting. So it feelslike they made it as big as possible with the idea of scaling it back if it's not accepted.

I rent through a letting agency. There’s been a lot of work going on, drilling/hammering above my room so I asked if the agency could let me know when work was planned so I could arrange where possible to be out. It’s much louder than legally allowed without ear plugs/noise defenders.

I got the following reply

“Hi,
No work going on in that flat by us.
Regards
Agency”

My landlord owns the agency so it can’t be them either. It’s really noisy as the room I have is very high so it echoes an impossible to be in when it’s being done which it is at various hours of day and night. 3am yesterday!!

Have you popped up to have a chat with the people doing the work? If it’s happening at night it must be by the people living in it.

I’m disabled and can’t climb stairs. Doorbell disconnected.

The landlord has let people working in the flat stay there between tenants before.

So the noise upstairs has stopped.

Just got a glass of water and the noise from the fridge (next to sink) was horrendous. Stopped when turned tap off though so hoping it’s nothing bad. No water anywhere or anything like that. Just not noticed it before.

Anyway, made the mistake of then checking my FB and it’s covered with a recent police operation of zero tolerance to the crime I went through and, subsequent findings during the investigation that are also, supposedly zero tolerance, they didn’t even given me a reference number or tell me they’d dropped it.

Am devastated 😔

Not advice per se but has anyone tried that whole waking up at 5am thing?
Tried it, ending up starting to feel like I was forcing myself an was getting angry having to wake up at 5am, also felt like I couldn't enjoy my nights because I was so tired

Everyone's different an just because I was tired at night doesn't mean others will but it didn't work for me, in the end I just started to go to bed whenever I was tired an then just get up when I woke natural, I do have my alarm set for 9 (am fortunate I work afternoon evenings) but if am up before it then am up before it, some mornings can be 6/7 others 8/9, I find I wake easier an earlier in the summer months so I might get one of those sunlight lamps for winter

I did this all through lockdown because with homeschooling it felt like that hour between 5 and 6 I could sit in silence and breathe. That time ended up becoming so absolutely part of my routine. I found I got so much more done, it was ridiculous really. I'd love to get back into it but am too knackered at the moment unfortunately.

It's definitely easier to start now with the light mornings. Trying to do it in the winter was a struggle!

I do it and it suits me. I do far better getting up early. If I get up at 7am I feel uncomfortable and out of sorts.

I think for it to be successful it needs to be your natural circadian rhythm - I’ve always been an early bird. However I also have menopause induced insomnia so it isn’t always easy and I am always tired. I’m always tired if I get up later though.

I don't think there's anything magical about 5am. I think it's good to get up and go to bed at roughly the same time though (not that I have been recently but feeling tit because my sleeping pattern is messed up 😅) I'm not a morning person and getting up at 5 would kill me. But optimal time for me is waking up between 8-9 and falling asleep between 10.30- 11.30. So I think everyone should find out what works best for them.

I know someone who is up at 4:30 to be in the gym for 5. She goes to bed at 8. I just don't see the point??

I would rather go to bed at 10 and wake at 6 30

The only reason I can see is if someone prefers working out early or their gym is really busy otherwise so that's the time they can fit it in before work. But I'm the same, don't fancy going to bed at 8

Yeh that is her reason for doing it. I go at lunch or 8pm so it's quieter.

I used to do a 6 -2 shift so got up at 5am most days for ages. Winter was the worst as well as the first 10 minutes out of bed but after that it was good, especially finishing work at 2pm!

I did a 4-8, I’m now 7-3 but have a 45 min drive. Regardless I wake early even weekends and don’t have an alarm
