Its barbaric. Babies know their mums smell and voice and naturally want to breastfeed - even at a very young age that baby will understand he has been separated from his mother. There's no such thing as 'not having a mother' for a baby.Ahh that's so sad
I remember when my son started talking, and I realised he had been talking to me for months babbling away and I hadn't realised - who's to say what this baby is expressing, he may not literally remember his mum but he could be expressing his loss and trauma.
Babies know their mum the second they are born, I remember my newborn son staring at me and turning his head to watch me as I walked around the room - this baby has lost his mum, surrogacy is so cruel.

I work with mums and newborns and lots of them have older babies too. Watching mums and young toddlers talking to each other is fascinating, they have their own language that no-one else can understand. And even very young babies will communicate with their mums in ways that we still don't fully understand. Mums will recognise their own baby's cry almost immediately after birth. Anyone on here who has had a child knows that you're "tuned into" your kids in a way that no-one else on the planet is. We know our children are sick before there are any visible symptoms. We wake at night at the slightest sound or movement. It's almost a sixth sense, and deliberately cutting that bond is tantamount to child abuse IMO.
Has anyone seen the story about McKenna West in America? She is a surrogate (single mom, needing to “make ends meet” per New Yorker) and they discovered the baby has HLHS. The intended parents are suing her because she has refused a termination. It’s a very serious heart condition and some parents do opt for termination as it requires almost immediate surgery with later revisions required if the baby survives (I used to work cardio thoracic surgery). This is one of those situations that exposes the horrors of surrogacy and the complete disregard for the carrying mother (I make no comment on TFMR). I’m sure there will be arguments about contracts and talk of tightening up pre-whatever agreements but what about the woman carrying the child? So much more I could say but I’m sure others will be able to point out things I haven’t even considered.

It's a foul and hides trade, and commercialises women's bodies and babies. Slevery and trafficking by another name, with a very thin veneer of cheap altruism hiding the horror beneath.
Im another one who thinks it should be banned. Infertility is sad, and I understand gay people may mourn parenthood but I dont believe being a parent is a right you should be able to buy just because you wish to.
Honestly id never given much thought to surrogacy, until I had my own baby. And she knew me, wanted me, needed me from the moment she was born. It takes time to build a bond with other people, but with Mum it’s just there & now it breaks my heart to think of a baby being taken away from the person that’s carried them. Regardless of DNA, that person is their mother & all they know. To be taken from that is just cruel. It’s got to be traumatic for both mother and baby, and while I understand that some people want their biological children, I can’t help but find it very difficult to support.
