That's my favourite by them too. Written by Kathy Dennis, who those past a certain age will recall as a pop star in her own right.

I have to say I’m loving these early 2000s groups threads! I used to love smash hits magazine and TOTP magazine when I was about 11/12 and happily hoovering up all the tea now just need an atomic kitten thread and I’m set. Kind of feeling a bit wistful of that time now, before social media and before reality tv was full of people doing it to get famous.

They treated Siobhan appallingly in the early days. Siobhan left due to how badly Mutya and Keisha treated her including putting chewing gum in her hair the night of the Brits and her having to get it cut out. Upon leaving the band she had to pay a huge legal bill as she was pulling out of a contractual agreement to be part of the group...she was still so young when she left so had to deal with a lot at a very young age.

I loved watching a live interview with them and the journo asked them what the song “Hole in the Head” was about, and the ladies replied that they had no idea, they just sing the songs that they were given.

Kudos for honesty - I just thought at the time they weren’t bright enough to invent meanings rather than simply not caring.

Sorry to hijack but Kerry and Natasha were unkind to Liz in the begging of AK, she was quieter and less in your face than they were and she felt left out. Liz has always struck me as being the only ‘normal’ one out of that lot.

yeah I like Liz, can imagine her being left out actually as the other two were/are a bit wild. Liz looks a kind gentle soul and was more about singing than chasing fame.

Ugh it’s such a tune! Me and my friend used to RUN to the dancefloor when it came on.

I was a teenager when Freak Like Me came out and loved the video, loved the original version too by Adina, but also loved Sugababes before their version was released especially Run for Cover and Overload but that new video drop when Heidi was introduced was stellar. I used to dance to and sing Mutya’s parts and pretend her parts was mine. I’m a guy

I don’t get why Siobhan decided to reform the band with Keisha and Mutya when they treated her so badly and bullied her?

They've probably grown a lot in the intervening years and been able to mend fences between each other. We have to keep in mind that they were quite young when the Sugababes first burst onto the scene. The revolving door of members was likely more to do with the record label than the original trio themselves. The music industry is brutal, so I'd guess the management and record label executives likely pushed each of the girls buttons to behave in a way that was beneficial for the Record Label rather than the girls themselves.

I might be misremembering but I believe Siobhan left the band by going to the toilet during a meal at a restaurant and escaping through the toilet window. I think popbitch reported that one at the time.

I loved Touch Me All Night Long. It was a cover of an American original. There's a very funny scene where the main (male) character dances to that in his bedroom in his pyjamas in Nightmare on Elm Street Two.

I haven’t heard that song since the early 90s and yet somehow, my brain knows all the words to the chorus How mad is that?!

Fun fact: Cathy Dennis wrote Toxic about her ex Noel Fitzpatrick, the supervet on tv.
