We've booked for near Great Yarmouth this year.

Having children that are stupidly early risers means we're often the first on the beach and ready to leave by the time the crowds arrive!

Another vote for the Lake District. My eyes were on stalks with the scenery, every time you turn somewhere the views are stunning.
Predictably, one of my children is morphing into Kevin and Perry and refuses to go this year "urrrgh I don't want to keep going on boats though" 🙄
So we're doing Yorkshire Coast and Center Parcs. Obviously, would recommend those options too.
Heard very good things about Northumberland and would like to try that.

Depends on what you like to do?
If you are active, or prefer cultural days out or a mix of the two?

Lake District is lovely (I should know, I live in Cumbria), but if you aren't active, outdoorsy or ok with the rain it's probably not worth it 🤣

I always forget about Northumberland, because it’s where I’m from 😂 but agree also amazing so much to do and explore, if you like castles and coasts 😀

I suspect that Northern Ireland would probably be one of the least crowded and lovely places to go. It's also a lot cheaper than the mainland.

Northern Ireland is very high on my list too, either this year if restrictions allow or certainly in the next few years. The landscape looks beautiful and I'd also like to visit Belfast.
Anyone from NI or who have been there have any specific recommendations as well as the usual locations (Giants Causeway, etc.)? 😀

Is the Lake District accessible via public transport?
Yes, you can get a train to Penrith, Oxenholme or Windermere and there are relatively good bus services from there onwards. If you can drive, hiring a car would allow you to see so much more as well as escape the busy tourist hotspots

A staycation is a holiday where you don't leave your house......just sayin'
And people saying they are having a holiday in Mygate / Ourgate / Worgate when they aren't going away.

SSHHH - keep it secret lol

I do think every coastal / countryside/ beauty spot will end up heaving.

I hope having to prebook attractions becomes a long term thing because I hate it when they are too busy .

We've had some good holidays either side of Great Yarmouth. Caister and Kessingland (near Lowestoft) has been good. We also tied this in to day trips around the area. If anyone has kids under 10 then I'd recommend the Africa Alive zoo in the area.

Oh I will add that to our list, were taking a 8 and 6 year old. We only ever use the holiday site as a base and explore the areas as much as we can.

The Suffolk coastline is lovely - look around Southwold. It’s gorgeous and in the summer is usually very warm & sunny.

If you're in Norfolk/Suffolk there's also Banham Zoo, BeWILDerwood and Pleasurewood Hills that would be good for young kids.

Edit - also The Poppy Line and the Mid Norfolk Railway are steam/diesel heritage lines with some beautiful scenery.

The train lines are the main reason we booked that area, my husband and son love steam trains lol
