Yeah those shoes are hateful sorry 😂 I don't think she meant any harm tbh, just ignorance.

I'm not saying the shoes are great though. It's the wording she's chosen to use for them which is, as I said, ignorant.

"Just ignorance" isn't a great thing either and regardless if she meant harm or not she needs to think about the words she uses to describe something. She would be more mindful of other cultures so why not the Japanese?

Not a massive Soph fan, but genuinely, is she (everyone?) expected to know everything that is culturally significant to every country/culture in the world?

That's true but I thought the shoes were a widely known about thing? Although, I suppose she doesn't leave her comfort zone of boring, basic and beige?

Benefit of the doubt: maybe she didn't know but still ignorant and rude.

Interesting as Anastasia Kingsnorth also wears these shoes and everyone rips her a new on on her tattle page, not one person mentioned they are cultural. So it’s probably not a widely known thing…

Right well I don't go on that thread and I did say I thought with a '?' at the end. I was wrong about that but it is ignorant and rude to liken them to bleeping donkey hooves/Mr tumnus imo.

She could have just said she didn't like them, not for her/not her style and left it there. It was the way she described them that, to me, is totally ignorant and she wouldn't do that to other cultures.

I think you may be reaching a bit with this and taking it a bit too personal.

It’s a pretty niche cultural thing.

I'm not taking it personal actually. I'm also not reaching. It is rude and ignorant to make a comment like that.

Again. She wouldn't say it about other cultures but it's fine in this case because it's just Japanese? It doesn't matter if it's niche or not.

If it was, say, a Nigerian item/clothing/shoes/whatever and she made a comment like that then I bet everyone would have called her out. Actually, no, she wouldn't have said it to begin with because it's wrong, it's rude and it's ignorant.

As I said, she could have said they weren't her taste but it's the fact she likened it to donkey hooves/Mr tumnus is what I have an issue with.

And I have specified that it is my issue with her and I think it's rude and ignorant. If you don't then that's you're choice but you don't really get to tell me I'm reaching.

"We get it" but clearly not when it's still being called a reach? 😴 I am chill, just don't understand how nobody seems to understand that she wouldn't have said it about another culture but it's fine in this instance just because the shoes are "weird". Who gives a tit. I don't think she should have said it, none of you agree. Why are people arguing with me about my opinion, which I have stated is literally just my opinion.

Feel like this was a real reach 🤣 these shoes are literally disgusting hahaha
Right, it was a reach.

To you.

Not to me. Again, she wouldn't have said it if it was shoes based on another culture.

Jesus Christ. It's my opinion, you've said yours. It isn't a reach - to me.

Agree to disagree.

Sophs a fool, bleeping move on and stop telling me I'm reaching FFS.

How would she or anyone really know they’re even cultural? I didn’t know there was such a thing as cultural shoes! People were going off on Ana’s thread for ages about how weird they are, not one comment regarding culture… I had no idea about them and it seems I’m not alone
Just because they’re cultural doesn’t mean they’re not an awful looking shoe
Sorry!! X

This isn't aimed at you or anyone directly but hopefully to end this conversation -

It's fine to not think something is not appealing to you. The issue is with the language used. Almost everything in existence has some sort of cultural significant, right down to make up and fashion and trends, most of which originate from non-Western cultures but is then made popular by white people.

The problem is that when you're a part of that culture or when you resonate with something and see it being town down like that it's not a nice feeling. I once made a comment about how "bleeping white" Soph used to be (as in pale) and all the white folks were screaming at me lol, it's the same thing. I shouldn't have worded it like that, same way Soph and people on this thread shouldn't be crying over how DISGUSTING a pair of shoes are and subsequently doubling down on the fact that they don't like to be told they're wrong for having a opinion that is poorly worded.

How about let's not comment on things we don't know anything about, cool? Cool.
