Why do the bbc keep saying when Andy burnham is PM? What do they know?
There is a contest in the sense that Labour has to elect a new leader, but if only one person gets enough MP nominations there isn't actually anything to vote on. I've read that Burnham has the backing of about 200 MPs so it doesn't need to go to a vote unless someone else steps up and says they want to run to lead. Streeting said he was going to contest but then stepped down and there's nobody else throwing their hat in the ring which means Burnham will be elected
I hope someone does - if nothing else, so Burnham's pitch/campaign can give him some obligations to stick to.
Bare in mind the longer this drags on the more time they waste not actually doing their jobs
