My darling old man Beau died a couple of years ago, and my wife persuaded me to get a pair of kittens, as our other cat was bereft. He was not pleased initially, but they became great mates and all curl up in heaps together. Here's my lovely Beau. And Threepwood cuddles a Junior Cat.

Aww so cute! I would love to get a kitten again. Have people found that their cats take to another cat? Ive debated on getting cleo a friend but I dont know how she would react.
My baby cat who my husband & I had since she was 8 weeks old, died late last year. She was 13 yrs old. It was unexpected & fast. We took our time & then decided in Spring this year to get another cat. We wanted to adopt & my husband wanted to get 2 so they could be friends. TBH I was bit worried that if we got 2 they would bond with each other and not be as close to us. Anyways we decided to get 2, it worked out that 1 picked 1 & he picked the other. They were from different litters and Boss #1 was 2 yrs old & Boss #2 was only 6 month old.
We got Boss #1 first, mine, & then the next day we got his Boss #2. We got a little mesh barrier to put on a door to separate them both. It was same height as a baby gate. They both had a litter tray, food, water, bed, toys etc each in their area.
Anyways, during the night we heard a thump & got up to check. Boss #1 had jumped the barrier and was over investigating Boss #2! Later they were snuggled up together sleeping 😻 They were honestly curled up together most of the time in the first 2 months. I think that was them bonding, being emotional support to each other & just getting used to their new forever home.
Now they are still getting along great together, bestest sisters. They do play fight but we think it's Boss #1 teaching Boss #2 how to defend herself 😹
If you are adopting the foster pawrents & team will be able to advise you on which cats will get along with others and which are more suited to be any only pet...etc.

Fostering was something I was considering, then im looking after a cat who deserves it and cleo gets to have a friend. Then I can see how cleo would take to another cat. I do think it would benefit her, it would be company and someone to play with. I know my old cat wouldn't have tolerated another cat in the house but I do think cleo would.

our 5 week old kitten doesn't appear to have any interest in eating food - he's still nursing. I think mum is trying to lead him to food but he's having none of it

at what point do i worry that he's not eating yet?

You may have to make a little kitten slurry and help him to eat by using a wee spoon, once he notices the food and hopefully tries a wee bit if he wanders off to play lift him back a couple of times to remind him its there. Dont force him, I genuinely wouldn't worry just now, as long as mum is still letting him nurse. Weight him daily just to check he's still gaining. You can try different types of kitten food too, he might take to one. But he'll be absolutely fine 💙

Jimmy is having a shouting match with Storm Amy.

I've already had to rescue him when he was outwitted by a puddle in the yard.

I was roundly cursed for carrying him to safety.
