My husband's cat Thor. Such a lovely, gentle boy with his marshmallow feet and big green eyes.

Hi,

I’ve got a 9 week old kitten, Lola 😍 She refuses to eat wet food, her owners previously said she isn’t a massive fan. I’ve been feeding her cooked fresh breast and wainwrights complete kitten biscuits but she won’t eat the biccies on their own without the chicken. I’ve ordered a trial box from Bella and Duke so hopefully she can eat some better food. I’m still worried she isn’t eating enough though.. can anyone advise please?

Hi. I hope Lola and you are very happy together forever!

9 weeks is young. I'd take the food down a notch: to kitten food tins and kitten biscuits, mixed with lactose free (suitable for cats) milk. Provide a little part of a chicken wing as a side dish for now, but the softer kitten wet food will activate her appetite.

I'm not an expert so punch my words into google to make sure I'm up to date with info!

I've only had one kitten from a breeder and she wasn't allowed to leave her mother till 12 weeks, and the breeder was very clear about diet and protein needs for her.

Best of luck and all the kitten love

Have you tried mushing it up a bit with a fork? My little boy wouldn't eat when he was a kitten unless I did (spoiler he's now a total pig and eats anything 😅) hope to see some photos of your little kitten soon 😅

She won’t even touch wet food, her ex owner said she hated any type of wet food. Today she’s had some tuna mixed with her biscuits and some dreamies! Will try the kitten lactose free milk too, thanks xx

Beautiful girl!

She's 9 weeks old, she doesn't know anything yet! Tuna is a wet food, so kitten is tricking herself. I'd really try to go back to the beginning with her/start again. Cats also need taurine, which is added to good quality wet food and isn't found in human tuna etc

Taurine will be in any complete cat food wet or dry regardless of quality of the food

I got my cats some new lick-e-lix to try, one strawberry and one vanilla flavour 😮 one cat ate it, the other one sniffed it and you should've seen how he looked at me 🤣 he was not happy. Had to give him a better flavour to make amends.

Lol I'm reading this while drinking a red bull. Just checked and taurine is also in red bull, so maybe let the kitty have a sup😹

Also something what might be at play here is that the kitty has just had a big change in environments with a new home & new pawrents...etc. So that could be why there is hesitation to eating. It happened with my Boss #1 when we adopted her & she is a 2 yr old. You just need to keep at it. Try placing a bit of creamy/wet food on their nose so they're forced to eat it. That way they hopefully realise it's all safe & yummy.
Since kitty is only 9 weeks old, they'll only be starting to eat food instead of milk. So cat milk would be great, whiskers has some. Also kitten wet & dry food. Cat tuna is good but can't be eaten too regularly bc of something in it that can build up too high & be bad.
Kittens need 3 or 4 small meals a day, & free feeding is super good idea so food is always available.
