Hi folks, was looking for a bit of advice. My cat is a senior citizen (mid-late teens allegedly, although she was a rescue and we can’t be sure. She seems young acting for her age but who knows) and has been diagnosed with probable IBD. We've been advised to switch her to a hypoallergenic diet. It looks expensive! Which is ok because she is our best girl in the world, but anytime we’ve bought her anything decent quality or specifically designed to help something (dental biscuits, anti furball biscuits, posh soft food before she had a big teeth cleaning once) she’s hated it. So I feel like this is going to be a very expensive game of trial and error. Her current food (Sheba, Whiskas, Felix et al) we can donate to cat shelters no bother.

Anyway, lots of rambling, can anyone recommend wet and dry food that’s hypoallergenic and potentially also designed for senior citizens, if that’s necessary? Bonus points if I can buy a small amount to try her on. Although of course she will LOVE the first few servings then we’ll remortgage our house to get her bulk supplies and at that point she will turn her nose up at it!

I share a lot of my cat on the internet so I feel like a picture of her would out me, haha. I wish my cat was an influencer who made me money, then she could have her own thread for all I cared 🤣

Sorry not exactly what you're looking for but when my cat had to eat special food, he really loved this one. Wasn't a fan of the other onw they have called digestive control or something, it had to be this one. Don't think you can buy a very small amount though, sometimes vets have individual sachets available

My cat is poorly again 😔 Since Friday she’s lost her appetite, takes a couple of mouthfuls of food when before she’d practically lick the bowl clean. Then this morning she did a small very dark poo in her littler tray. Google is diagnosing the worst.

The insurance has a clause where you have to have an online consult before getting an appointment so I’ve spoken to a vet on web chat and they’ve said give her some bland food, see how she gets on and if no better take her to vet tomorrow. I just opened a can of tuna and when she smelled it she got very vocal demanding the food lol but still only took a few mouthfuls. She has eaten some dreamies this morning too. She seems sleepy but when we get her favourite toy out she has played.

We’ve also found a lump on her cheek and my husband thinks maybe it’s from a fight because she keeps getting into a fight with another neighbours cat 🙄 so really hoping maybe it’s just that putting her off eating and nothing more sinister.

We had dogs before and I swear they weren’t this stressful 😫
Took her to the vets today. An abscess on her face from fighting and a damaged tongue. She’s got a lovely week long prescription of antibiotics. It’s a liquid so will put it in her food and hope she’s not fussy.

I'm focusing on the wrong thing, but why is chicken spelled "chiken"?! Is it a one-off mistake? Curious cat

Hi, I'd check Royal Canin "instinctive" for seniors. My Bossy *loved it* and she was not really food motivated. I'm not sure whether its hypoallergenic though, as I don't know what that means! But it's Royal Canin and that's premium, so maybe. Good luck

I’ve just witnessed Nala eating a whole bird! It was a small one! She had bought it to the door so as opened the door it was on the floor! I walked out n said I’d deal with it once I’d put my washing out! Course she ran off with it…came back and she was sat on the door mat eating it! Leaving a few feathers and its guts! Literally all of it even the bones!!
Why oh why!!!

I always find my animals prefer gills to royal cabin. Both of my cats are on a hills food (different ones) but not sure if they do a senior hypoallergenic food. I always found these companies helpful if you email them they should advise on what is best (hills/royal canin/Purina). Maybe look on Facebook marketplace or eBay for people selling them cheaper? Seen people selling for cheaper if their pet passed or won't eat the food

My silly cat is obsessed with food and always has been. This is apparently also a sign of her IBD as she is probably not absorbing enough nutrients from her food so wants even more, but she has also always been this way and in the past we’ve taken her to the vets BECAUSE she’s refused food. Contrasted with my Mum’s cat who delicately picks at her food throughout the day and never scoffs anything. However, she has now decided she is fussy. And it doesn’t actually seem to have anything to do with foods that have been making her sick. Sometimes she -prefers- those foods 🤣 she is so silly! I think Royal Canin might be a good way forward, thank you!

Boss #2, the kitten who was the youngest in a cat colony out in the country, she vomited a worm last night!!!! We brought her to vets asap this morning. Vet said bc of the vomiting of the worms and the size of them (about 2inch) she has had them a very long time.
She would of been treated for them when she was trapped by the rescuers, I don't understand how they would of survived & not been noticed till now. The cats have been with us 20 weeks this week!
Anyways she has gotten a worm tablet now and will be getting another in 4 weeks. Boss #1 doesn't show any signs but we are treating her too. We opted for the drops on back of neck as she is still wary/feral, so it'll just be less stress on both of us. She was a bit shocked when I did the drops as I was rubbing her and she was relaxed and purring, then all of a sudden a gush of liquid on back of her neck. She was OK though.
Boss#2 has pooped out some of the worms now, which are alive so that is gross. I thought the treatment would kill the worms?
My poor baby, this must be why she hasn't been gaining much weight too. Also explains her poop texture & why she messes the rug, which I know know is called scooting. She had anal gland issue before which got fixed couple month ago so I was worried that was back. I guess this is better than that. Also thought maybe she had ibs or something, this is also better than that bc easier treatment. Really hope this fixes soon & she starts to feel so much better!!!!

Random question, wondering if anyone has any advice. One of my cats (who's usually friendly, when I take him to other people's houses for example) gets terrified when anyone comes over to mine (I'm not that sociable so it's not a supercommon situation). He seems to sense it's going to happen, today I had to get something fixed and he hid under the bed for hours before the guy arrived and hours and hours before he left (no idea how he seemed to know) anyone know how to maybe change this habit? Other cat hates most people and will hide when they come but not for hours after

Was it noisy? That might be what made him stay for hours. I don't know about the before hiding though.

Maybe he sensed you prepping for someone coming over? Sounds weird but cats can do that. Also maybe home is his safe space and he just doesn't like it being infiltrated?

It’s the cats birthday today. I’ve given her a can of tuna as a treat for dinner and she doesn’t want it 😂 typical cat.
