Hi all

im entering into the world of self employment and slightly confused!!! I have an accountant but he is always busy and I don’t want to come across as stupid

im going to be self employed and vat registered within the Uk. Can someone please help with the following?
If I purchase office equipment that has vat attached - what do I get back if anything?

is there any tips or hints for things that I can claim for such as client gifts and hospitality?

thanks in advance and yes I could ask the accountant I am paying for the service but if someone can let me know in simple terms I would be v v grateful as it is worrying me so much

So anything you buy for you business is classed as tax deductible. Therefore the costs are taken off any money made and therefore reducing your tax liability. As you are VAT registered, VAT is effectively 0. Any VAT you pay you claim back.
