'80's too, SM is of that era too. Same age as me. Gen X.
Seriously it does happen alas. I am one to think there are a lot of people out there shitting themselves because they cant remember what they did when they were drunk/caned. It actually happened to me a couple of years ago. My ex is booze allergic to one particular type of alcohol. Turns quick. Doesnt remember a thing about his bad behaviour the next day. There's a reason he is now an ex, it happened rarely but I just couldnt deal with his sweet face the next day but being afeared of the foulness he could spout after that tipple. He doesnt remember a thing, you can see it in his eyes, not a thing but he knows that he cant remember. There's a shedload of people from SM's generation who were so very very off their bits on pills and powder in late 80's early 90's rave scene they wont always remember what they did. I know because I was there, not off my bits, watching them.
I'm a 70's kid so the '80's were my teen years. It was quite awful how many men would follow you home from school, or to the shops etc let alone older men taking advantage. No mobiles, no texts, only 4 channels on the telly and one of them had james savile on every week. I had a number of older boyfriends and to this day I am confused why my parents didn't protect me more. My male gay friends had a very challenging time indeed and I know very well from drunk chatters that there will be increasing issues for others in the future about chem sex parties. Bless those not alive to tell more.
And yes, someone mentioned Boy George, wtf is he still on the box? Nasty violent man.
