I’m sure he will. He knew what she was doing he could of stopped this if I text my partner that he would come straight home take the kids and tell me to get help or leave for good
He didn’t even have to leave or break up the relationship! All they had to do was say they couldn’t cope and Leiland had to go back and he would have gone. They could’ve carried on as normal.
He seems the kinda person to 'stick by her' will probably be visiting her.
I'm genuinely shocked he was cleared of child cruelty after admitting to hitting him, and of causing or allowing... he definitely allowed it!
I'm glad she was found guilty, she deserves a lengthy sentence!

I know cases like this are extremely rare (adopters killing adopted child) but I can't help but think he would still be alive today if he was with his birth family

Sometimes I wish they would say right your guilty of murder , now off u go we are letting u free to live on the roughest hardest estate , and let everyone know what they did and where they are. Those videos are incredibly sad. You don’t even have to have a bond with the baby to just want to pick him up and cuddle him! I don’t know how someone can be so heartless. The rocking is very disturbing in a child that age. It just shows how neglected the poor boy was. This was emotional abuse too, not just physical. I hope she rots in hell.
Aw he was distressed because he needed attention. He needed feeding, a cuddle or he was tired and yet instead of putting her phone down and attending to him, she sat there and recorded him to show how 'he didn't stop crying'.
Maybe if she'd put the phone down and attended to him like a normal mother, he wouldn't have been so frustrated.

Sentencing today
The prosecutor said she was looking at 4 - 8 years for child cruelty but the judge gave her 21 months. I know in the grand scheme of things it's irrelevant as the sentence will be served concurrently, as is the case with most life imprisonments but I feel it's a bit low.
I watched the video of Leiland crying and it really annoyed me. That little boy had been removed from his birth Mum and his foster Mum. He was quite obviously suffering from incredible distress.
Leaving aside that Laura Castle was awful, Social Services really do have to stop putting babies in temporary placements and put them with the parents who want to adopt them at birth. It’s so cruel that poor little babies are put in temporary placements and SS deliberately put them in distressing situations where they are separated from their carer since birth.
Yes, I know in a few cases they may ultimately be returned to be birth parents which will be distressing for potential adopters, but in other circumstances SS have no compunction about distressing potential adopters if it’s in the best interests of the child. If they are passed back to birth parents but the babies will be separated from their carers from birth regardless in ALL cases now rather than just in a few as that system would do. Removal at birth is so rare it’s only done in absolutely CATASTROPHIC cases so return to birth parents would be very unusual.
It would also mean if adopters like the Castles are identified as unsuitable early the babies won’t then have to be moved to another foster home then another adopter before the age of 2. The current system is so unfair on babies.

I think the sentencing overall was low. I think there was probably some mitigation but the reporting is so bobbins we’ll never know.
Hopefully sentencing remarks will be released soon enough which will give a bit more insight.
There is a 26 week time limit on care proceedings.
So, the primary attachment is to the foster carer who has had the child from removal, but at 6 months (or older, if case is still unresolved) the child will be placed with a second set of parents whether that's return to birth parents, SGO or adoption.
Unfortunately removal at birth is not as rare as you think, and the reasons for removal aren't always catastrophic.
Likewise on the other side there are cases where children should be removed at birth but just aren't.

Hasn't anyone noticed that on the video where he is crying in the jumperoo (which I found extremely hard to watch & wish I hadn't now) he turns his face away quickly with panic when she goes to wipe his tears? To me he looks terrified that she is going to slap him, this will haunt me forever & makes me cry my eyes out every time I think about it, that poor precious little boy, it breaks my heart
I just don't get how someone could feel no attachment, emotion etc towards a baby!?

This is quite incorrect. Lots of babies are removed at birth, especially if birth parents are known to social services and it is not the first child. It will be arranged from pregnancy that the child will be removed at birth placed into Foster care and have contact with birth parents if appropriate. Believe it or not a lot of birth parents don't even turn up to that contact because of their chaotic lifestyles.
The hope is that baby stays with Foster parents until a family is found then they are moved to adoptive parents who, after 10 weeks, with social worker support apply for the adoption order.
Children are moved around Foster care when adoptive families can't be found. That's traumatic for them as they are severed from primary carers multiple times.
Laura was an adoptive parent not a Foster parent. She hadn't applied for the adoption order as social workers did not support this because of her lack of bond. This isn't unusual. Babies don't bond easily because there last primary carer disappeared so this one probably will too in their little traumatised minds. Adoptive parents don't bond because a traumatised stranger has moved into your world. It's all completely normal what Leiland was doing. He was grieving for his primary carer and instead of responding to that calmly, patiently, gently and therapeutically she beat him and killed him. I'm staggered by this story I just don't know how she could have done this knowing what he had already been through.
