I thought non binary was when someone doesn’t identify with any gender? Surely they are just not identifying with a gender stereotype? Are we really there though? Not being interested in “traditional male things” doesn’t make anyone any less of a male? Doesn’t make them non binary.
Unbelievable isn't it. Living by gender stereotypes that were outdated 30 years ago. And they think this is progress!

They have genders in lieu of having a personality a lot of the time.
It reminds one of when you have a friend who is like “I LOVE PINK!” And everything is pink the car, the clothes, the furniture, the front door.. every day they have such a laugh about how they love pink it’s their whole personality and they think they’re so quirky

I don't feel anyone would have an issue with that as you're trying, as you say. I think the problem is when people get the pronouns wrong thinking it's funny, as have quite a few on here and social media over the last few days re Sam. That's quite pathetic.

And re the whole non-binary thing - there are many different ways to be non-binary. For example, I'm male but don't identify with many "traditional" male things - i.e. I bloody hate football. I guess that would make me a "brainwashed loon" to some...
Huh? Liking football isn't an essential part of being a man 🤣 I mean, wtf. Not liking a specific sport doesn't make you non-binary

I guess @PeteM meant one can be non-binary in different ways (not only the gender route), eg not liking something “traditionally male” also means you go against the tide ie are non-binary vs the great majority of people. At least that’s how I interpreted the post - he didn’t imply not liking football makes you non-binary (gender-wise)

To my understanding non binary is not having any gender. So a man not liking football isn’t non binary as they still identify as male. That’s how I’ve always understood it

No, you’re a man. Liking pink things and wearing a skirt or anything else doesn’t change that.

I work in mental health, I have found most people who use they/them are fairly receptive to me apologising in advance if I use the wrong term - I advise that they correct me if I get it wrong - which I often do.

What I've heard from their new project, I like. I'm glad they didn't choose to stick with the dreary Adele template music-wise. Gimme, Unholy and Not Here to Make Friends show a good range. I would give the album a listen.

Sam does look try-hard in his new style. It's like they watched Pose & Paris is Burning and is cos-playing it out like a tween who just discovered k-pop.

Also their fashion/looks are jarring - not only due to a larger frame. Sam has a plain face and weak chin, to be blunt, and can't pull off androgyny, femme or sexy very well.

bro what 💀 liking / not liking a sport has nothing to do with your gender.

IMO declaring yourself non-binary and expecting everyone to bend to your pronoun whims, is no different to those people who buy Lord and Lady titles off the Internet and expect people to go along with it.

Way too high an opinion of themselves and most sane people think they're a twit.

I don't know why he didn't own the look at the BRITS, should have done something to his hair that mirrored the OTT outfit or even some makeup just something instead he had the same look of being miserable as usual.

So are you saying because you hate football that makes you non binary 😂
You are man/male, no such thing as Non Binary 🙄

Sam Smith is a pathetic man, desparate for attention, he is a gay man with a fetish or two, years ago his fetish for women's/rubber clothing was kept behind closed doors, now it seems OK to parade your oddness on TV in front of children. 😡

Yes all loons, their behavior is not acceptable to the majority of sane people that know you're either a male, a female, gay, straight or bi, that's it, there is no more.
Less than 2% are born intersex.

Agree. Also even with intersex people they usually have genitalia/characteristics which align more with one sex than the other, it’s not a total 50:50 split

The way I see it is that I will try to use these pronouns but I can’t really blame myself or anyone else for using grammar correctly, as we were taught at school and as children. ‘They’ and ‘them’ doesn’t work in vocabulary very well so it’s not exactly ignorance, it’s a technical skill everyone now has to learn
Bit in bold: Personally I think no we don't have to learn it. It's nonsense. No "have to" about it.

It annoys me that attention seekers like Sam Smith cause society to wring their hands and bow to demands of narcissists like this. I see a man, I say a man. I see a woman, I say a woman. I am not walking around getting anxious over whether someone is non binary today or xir/xem tomorrow. I will use their name instead if I must.

Agree with this.
Someone I worked with was non binary and it was hard to change how I’ve spoken my whole life
