I think a different person might be able to carry off what Sam’s doing - but that person would have to have a lot more presence, and do it with a bit of humour / tongue-in-cheek. Sam just looks uncomfortable. I don’t think he’s really into it (however much he might protest otherwise) and he can’t carry it off.
It wouldn't be too bad if all of them didn't think they were the first to do it and they were more controversial than others. Bowie wearing dresses in the 70s and getting in shit because he put his arm around Mick Ronson on TOTP was controversial...Freddie Mercury wearing mini skirts and tights was seen as controversial......whatever this is they are getting the attention they clearly wanted but not for the reasons they wanted it.

To be honest I wouldn't take figures like that seriously. Hugely made up for buzz. Like when they said Madonna spent 5 million on avatars for performing at the billboards. No chance she spent anywhere near that much on somewhat ropey computer visuals that a couple of recent grads could make in a few weeks. The people saying the 5 million didn't even understand it was avatars not hollograms so they were just pasted on top for people at home to view.I just saw this, 500k cost for that performance!! Wow. He'd have been better off just standing on the stage with a mic, singing the song. All those props, so costly, just to be shocking
