god I wish I had Ruby’s same life opportunities. She takes it all for granted and play pretend 70% of the time.

Like Oxford doesn’t seem to be a big deal to her at all… but then again a lot of higher educated people take their opportunities (finance, time, didn’t struggle most of their life with an unknown learning disability (me), etc) for granted while simultaneously looking down on anyone who just has a 2 or even 4 year degree, as if that MA+ degree is what makes you more “INTELEKTUAL” than any silly little plebs. (If I sound bitter I’m sorry haha)

Influencers need to end. I lately haven't even watched their videos because I don't want to give them any money.
So many people are struggling with paying rent, buying food and they're on their 20th holiday of the year. The inequality, their dissonance of the everyday reality is insane.

I think her logic is that helium balloons are usually a birthday party staple, but it's still a mess of a metaophor to hinge a whole poem on.

At this point though, I'm not entirely convinced that ChatGPT didn't write this for her after she fed in some prompts. "ChatGEEPEETEEEEAAAA, please wroyte me ayyy sad pyoem about choyldhud, barrthdayyys and the fear of growing opp and not being as spashal as you'd hyoped, with a central mattaphore about balyoons thankyouplease." And then she just banged the enter key at random points.
Yeah I was thinking the poem is actually fairly decent to have written by Ruby

Hypocrisy about the environment; major proponent of superficial “girlboss” feminism; lazy engagement with the complexity of sex and gender issues.

The very fact she’s skated into the creative writing MSt with no meaningful/good quality work as yet shows she’s trading on celebrity and connections vs actual skill and talent, which is what she’s done for her entire post-Potter career. I don’t know her personally but we are…let’s say, quite close in degrees of separation via one or two things, and I know several people who find her very annoying!

Fwiw it's similar in some Scottish unis. An undergraduate degree in the arts is an MA, so a masters degree in the arts tends to be an MSc.
That´s so odd to me. Here where I´m from you get a BA in the arts and BSc for courses like engineering, physics, economics, chemistry, IT, etc. If you pursue a masters degree in the arts you get an MA, but not a MSc.

To be fair, the inside of the house isn’t any better. I bet she’s one of those people who thinks feet magically get clean on their own in the shower. Short answer: no.
Totally. IMO the only culture in Bones mansion is the sort you'd grow on a petrie dish. It's all so nasty and sticky looking Urgh!!

Also, there must be something very wrong with her if going out to get tea or coffee by herself is something she feels the need to work towards. Agoraphobia? A fear of being alone in general? I don't know what it is but it's serious.
To me this was way more about optics, how she wants to be seen by all her new classmates rather than actually something she wants to do. We all know she is all image no substance.

I’m amused that she has a whole holiday reset list and does all these things every time she goes on a trip or holiday, because she goes on holiday SO OFTEN. She must spend half her life doing this list.

Also the photos she loved from Italy, I couldn’t help noticing that there was a beautiful photo of blakeney. I wonder why she wanted that one printed lol.

Do people send postcards anymore? Couldn’t imagine getting 17 postcards a year from each of her trips. I think I would start to bin them straight away. Nobody cares that much.

I did find the memory video sweet, I do it myself too when I’ve been somewhere nice or had a nice month but…I also post it, share it with my family and friends. Not just keep it only for me and the person I went on the trip with…that part felt strange to me lol.

What do you think will be her next back-to-school video?

1. What is in my pencil bag
2. What is in my school bag
3. Preparing for back to school
4. Back to school preparations
5. Setting up my planner for back to school
6. Study tips for back to school
7. Necessities for back to school
8. My night before back to school routine
9. My morning back to school routine
10. My evening back to school routine
11. My night time back to school routine
12. I can't make friends and am lonely back at university/there were tears
13. My first marks back at university and what I did wrong
14. Dark Macademia with Ruby back at school routine
15. We need to normalize back to school routines routine
This just reminds me why I started following Ruby. 14 year old me was SOOO excited for my future education and these types of videos made me even more excited lol but I couldn’t imagine being that excited now as a 25 year old.

omg rubys reel of her 10 back to school essentials and i am honestly shocked at how bad her nails looked. the chipped nail polish and the unkempt nails like...... what ??? how can u claim to be a perfectionist when u go around with such ratty looking nails. if u cant be bothered repainting ur nails and keeping on top of them ok... just stop painting them. keep them trimmed and clean. this is such a basic thing????

She doesn’t have to focus on children’s literature - she’s proposed to work on girlhood, which includes older (adolescent) girls, and not just literature directly written for them, but also how they were depicted, whatever they actually did read, etc.

It’s a perfectly okay topic in itself, apart from the sad truth that Rubert isn’t really interested in it (not at that time). I could (but won’t because, as I’ve sometimes mentioned in other posts, I don’t want to help her) give further examples of the kind of thing she might read or talk about in her academic work. As a starting point, she’d be looking at the concept of a “girl”, and what that meant at the time (quite different to now).

I can imagine her putting her camera somewhere and imitating that Snape walk in the corridors.

Did she not take a single shower during her trip? nothing she did in the video would have made her knees that dirty. I used to come home with knees like when I was a kid lol

OT: I feel very bad for kids today. There's literally no space for them to play now, just some small parks with limited space. Three swings at most, and the slides are the shortest things ever, nothing exciting nor very engaging. There's no safe and empty space for groups of children to run and play one of those complicated games that is somehow known all around the world, just called with different names.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. She should volunteer with her local Brownies or Guides, where the safeguarding rules and the rest of the team will make sure she's interacting with the girls appropriately (this is the bit she's demonstrated time and time again she can't be trusted to do on her own!) but she'll get to live out her dreams of working to a termly timetable with summer, Christmas & Easter holidays, being among young girls, being a mentor to them and getting some experience at actually being a responsible adult, especially if her unit turns out to be the more outgoing kind.
Ruby? As a mentor even if it's only for few weeks? Not sure it's a good idea. It's not even about being inappropriate, it's just about herself. Maybe after truly working on herself? But the Ruby we know now wouldn't be a great mentor.

I'm absolutely clueless about ChatGPT. It's not something I can use in my job and I haven't got much time to spend learning it (so I haven't bothered) but I noticed a tutor on my MA course said that some students were flagged up on a recent module for AI and plagiarism. He said AI isn't good beyond superficial reading- not sure how true that is as I am a dinosaur. Hopefully Ruby knows not to use it for actual writing but I think she shouldn't mention it at all in her study videos, tutors don't like it.

If i had any conviction her "preparation" were anything else but a playact to create lame video content I would say she's shitting her pants about going to Oxford and desperatly trying to control SOMETHING like stocking up her pantry with couscous.

She knows back to school content gets views so it justifies her making them. But resetting two months in advance is a bit much…
