She probably sees a therapist remotely because there aren’t many local to where her parents live, and because she was hoping to move to Oxford next year. Tbh I don’t find this too weird in itself; maybe because I know quite a few people who see their therapists remotely! It’s super common in the wake of Covid. It fits in well with travel, busy lives, etc. (Not that Rubert is busy, but she is currently rural.)

Her latest video was so awkward when she went on and on about the iPad. Is this literally the first one she has ever owned? Sorry, but they are so common now that I fail to see the big deal about it. They have been around for ages. I can't believe she is planning to do a video to show what she has on hers. That is so passe. Does anyone even bother to do that now, especially someone her age? I don't even see young kids doing that anymore. iPads are just not a big deal, in spite of their price, and she didn't even get hers new. I can just see it failing her in the middle of her Masters, losing all her info. Refurbished ones can play some nasty tricks on you. The rest of the video was just ridiculous. A grown woman showing her "back to school" haul is just twisted.
I swear she had an iPad during her time in school. I know she bought a new one during her time at AXATAR which she had for years.

I wanted to reply to the video of her and martha in the earlier thread, but since it´s locked I´ll add my comment here: she seems sooo much more natural in the video with Martha and I´m not sure if what I noticed is right or I´m just imagining things, but her accent sounds a lot more natural as well. Really a shame that she´s so different in her own content...

I remember at the time the general consensus, too, was that she was intimidated suddenly being in a server with people who had much more to say about the books assigned for that week/month/whatever than she did - actual intelligent analyses, too, not just "WOW the VIBES were so IRIDESCENT, the author really captured EVENTS and EMOTIONS, I've never seen this in a book before!!"

She barely gets away with that bullshit in IG posts/YT videos where she can just ignore the comments, never mind a server where engagement would be much more expected. It wouldn't be long before even the people who kiss her ass wouldn't be able to deny that it's all performative, and that she skims at best (or probably just reads summaries/reviews and regurgitates what they say).

“We NEED to normalise going on rainy walks”…. What?
View attachment 2362614
Since when was going out in the rain not “normalized” for someone who lives in the UK? It literally rains for like half of the year lmao. Either you go out in it or you remain shut in your house all day.
I’ve not been on this thread for a while and haven’t caught up with her, but one look at her tiktok tells me that clearly she’s still an absolute melt lol
'We need to normalize something completely normal'.
Okaaaay.
Oh my goodness Ruby is so unusual and quirky I just can't 🙄

Do we think Ruby has ever had a shag? Because my god a good rogering is exactly what she needs.
Bloody hell was not ready for this comment but you are absolutely right, maybe she has with her bestest best friend

She’s obviously half-inched that recipe from a website so why not just share the link rather than an artistic interpretation? There’s so much missing here it makes my baker’s soul hurt.

What’s the method? I’m assuming you curdle the ‘milk’ (soya? Oat? Almond? Pea? Potato?) with the vinegar but it’d be good to know. Equally do I cream the butter and sugar or just chuck everything in the bowl and hope for the best? Why are the fractions mixed - 2/3 of a cup of butter and 1.25 cups milk? How much vanilla - a teaspoon, a gallon? What size tin and what temperature oven, and for how long? Ok, we all know it‘ll be ‘in the aga until it’s a solid, deep brown, crisp disc that could injure you if dropped‘ but thow us a bone, Rubes. Honestly, if you’re going to present a recipe as your own at least make it make sense. And yes, cakes do have a habit of turning out bad when you don’t follow a method
Cakes also turn out bad when often you go for a tiptoe through the tulips in your dressing gown and leaving said cakes for 3x the amount of normal cooking time.

God, I have never seen such redundant busy work before in my life.

What is the point of copying the list of readings off the course booklet, running it through chatgpt to slightly alter the format, then pasting it onto norton? It didn't need to take an hour and a half, it literally could have taken 10 seconds by just clinking the 'save as' button on the pdf

This is just her, again, plaguerising somebody else's work and pretending she did it all herself to make her look so clever and smart. The very definition of a waste of time. She copied the entire coursebooklet, right down to the printing and referencing page.
The kind of thing you would do if you had unlimited free time during the day and nothing else to be getting on with. Killing time.

That thumbnail just isn't right. The outfit choice suggests uniform. 23 years of age and she's posting "what's in my school bag" videos. Honestly knocks me sick

I don’t really understand the whole being a person who goes out for tea and coffee thing. No judgement, but Ruby seems to do that an awful lot already and when she was at AX-tar, she seemed to be studying in coffee shops practically all the time. I don’t understand why this is an aspiration of hers or what kind of person she believes doing that would make her? It’s all very confusing.

I have a question. I really don't know how things work in the UK school systems. But could this happen?

Ruby picked an obscure study so she could get into Oxford for her MA. She isn't even interested in the time period, but as it is not a popular one, it is easier to get into, so she tried for it and got in.

Once she gets there, maybe even takes some classes, could she changed her MA focus to one that she prefers and they would accept her, now that she has her foot in the door, or is that out of the question. In other words, we saw her change her major. Could she pull that one again at Oxford for her MA?

I am thinking no, because you were accepted for a very specific study and nothing else. But, like I said, if it is possible, I wouldn't put it past her.
It’s actually very easy to change your course at Oxford at any level. All you need is everyone to agree and sign off on it. You might have to do an extra module or two that you missed while you were doing your original course and thus you might graduate slightly later but yes they let you.

I wouldn’t put it past her to change what she’s doing. I’m surprised she chose the MA she did.

I screenshotted this a few days and never got round to posting this but this seems SO back handed and snooty to me. Like yeah of course she thinks trains are great because she probably doesn’t even notice the constant price increases. Also, she can travel off-peak since she’s not working so probably doesn’t experience overcrowded trains with no seats. Trains in the UK are among the most expensive in the world. Like yeah the UK is very well-connected and trains could be amazing if the fat cats at the top actually invested in trains and made them cheaper and better for the country. I just hate how she’s acting like she’s better than us and acting like she’s *so grateful* for the people who make it happen as if the rest of us aren’t. It’s not the workers/strikers we’re mad at; it’s the shareholders and other fat cats! Like I’m supposed to feel grateful and lucky that it costs me £30 to get a return for a 20 minute train into London or £100+ to visit my friends in Bristol when I can get a return flight to Oslo for £35.

She’s denied it on tiktok but there’s absolutely no chance she’s not a Tory, whether she realises it or not. This post reeks of Tory nationalism and not keeping up with the news because it doesn’t affect her.
Some cities outside of London are so poorly connected. E.g. a journey to Norfolk involves several changes from where I live. She only really knows the commuter areas and London. She doesn't realise!

To be fair I know next to nothing about how Masters degrees work at Oxford or the UK in general (a friend of mine studied at Cambridge and her bachelors was automatically upgraded to a masters degree after a while, no idea how that works ), but if I were Ruby I´d focus all my time now on preparing for the course. Nine months is *nothing* for a whole degree, I imagine it to be quite stressful all jampacked together in these few months. Where I´m from uni works a bit differently and most bachlor and masters students already work 10h/week or part-time during their studies.

Well, if she hadn’t before, she has now. We know she reads the forum.
This will be fun! Hey Ruby, just so you know, you can ask ChatGPT to make its suggestions more suited for introverts and more intellectual and dark academia feeling, and you can even ask it to include lots of literary quotes. I’m pretty sure I’ve almost cracked the code to getting an authentic Ruby video this way. Only needs more undeclared ads, but I’m afraid ChatGPT is too moral to include those.

Title: Bookish Things to Do When You're Bored

[INTRO]

[Background music: Melancholic, with hints of classical piano and strings]

Host (Thoughtfully, holding a vintage book): "Greetings, fellow introverted souls and seekers of the arcane knowledge within books. If the world outside overwhelms you, fear not, for we have curated a collection of bookish activities with an intellectual and dark academia ambiance to captivate your solitude. Let us embark on this literary journey together."

[SEGMENT 1: Solitary Reading Retreat]

[Host sitting by a window with a cup of tea]

Host (quoting Charles Bukowski): "In solitude, there is healing. Speak to your soul. Listen to your heart. Sometimes, in the absence of noise, we find the answers we seek."

[Show the host reading by the window, embracing the quietude]

[SEGMENT 2: Bibliophilic Journaling]

[Host at a desk with a quill pen and ink]

Host (quoting Virginia Woolf): "A blank piece of paper is God's way of telling us how hard it to be God."

Host (contemplatively): "Take a journey into your thoughts with bibliophilic journaling. Pen your musings, record your favorite quotes, and explore the labyrinth of your mind through words."

[Show the host writing beautifully in a leather-bound journal]

[SEGMENT 3: Atmospheric Book Playlists]

[Host with headphones, creating a playlist]

Host (quoting Edgar Allan Poe): "We loved with a love that was more than love."

Host (whispers): "Craft an atmospheric playlist that echoes the emotions of your favorite books. Let music transport you to distant worlds and uncharted emotions."

[Show the host with closed eyes, feeling the music]

[SEGMENT 4: Haunting Poetry Reading]

[Host in a dimly lit room with candlelight]

Host (quoting Sylvia Plath): "I am inhabited by a cry. Nightly it flaps out, looking, with its hooks, for something to love."

Host (mystically): "Dive into the world of haunting poetry. Let the words wrap around you like a shroud, taking you on a journey of beauty and sorrow."

[Show the host reciting verses from classic poems]

[SEGMENT 5: Philosophical Contemplation]

[Host seated in a cozy library corner]

Host (quoting Friedrich Nietzsche): "And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music."

Host (deep in thought): "Engage in philosophical contemplation, pondering the mysteries of life and existence found within the pages of philosophical works."

[Show the host lost in contemplation with a book in hand]

[SEGMENT 6: Midnight Book Strolls]

[Host walking through a dimly lit bookshop]

Host (quoting Oscar Wilde): "We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars."

Host (whispers): "Embark on a midnight book stroll, wandering the aisles of bookshops and libraries, seeking solace and inspiration under the watchful gaze of literary giants."

[Show the host caressing books on shelves during a nocturnal bookshop visit]

[OUTRO]

[Host standing amidst flickering candlelight]

Host: "Embrace the profound pleasures of the written word, for within its embrace, you'll find an eternal sanctuary. Until we meet again, fellow travelers in the world of shadows and books."

[Closing scene with host gazing pensively into the distance, fade out to the title: "Bookish Things to Do When You're Bored"]

Who is even entertained/ motivated by her videos at this point?? I swear people watch her like she's a distressed tiger in a zoo doing laps in its enclosure where you're watching like "this is tragic you shouldn't be living this way" it's so depressing. I feel like if you want actually motivating content you go to Eve Bennett, and Eve Cornwell (even tho she seems to have given up YouTube and can be a bit cringe) bc at least they did something with their studying and grades
Not at all. In fact I believe she will be the last of the "studytuders" and the whole idea will just be a passing fad that is already close to dying out. The whole work all the time, study all the time, be productive, make a thousand lists, check things off, be a perfectionist, get high grades, read a certain amount of books in a limited time mindset is incredibly toxic and anyone who even remotely emulates her is ruining their own lives. She is not a role model. She is not perfect, nor is she beautiful, nor is she "aesthetic". Those labels do not belong to her and this fake persona is something she is now stuck in. No wonder she doesn't grow or have any idea who she is. She never takes the time, real downtime, to spend with herself. No tech devices, no posting, no pictures, no videos, no connections, no scrolling. Just a solid few months of being yourself and doing your own thing without trying to turn it into a show. You can't run properly when you are holding up a camera showing yourself running. You are not taking a day for reading or appreciating your natural surroundings when you are pacing back and forth, in front of the camera you set up, then stop to take it down, check it, do it again. omg Even all these trips she has taken this past year. It is ridiculous. She is doing it for content only. She has run out of ideas. You don't retain anything from a vacation to a foreign country or special place when you replace it with another country 3 weeks later. She never has the time to reflect on it, process was she has seen or done, or grow from any of these trips. It will always be a whirlwind in her head, and she seems to have a lot of those. Honestly, I don't get any of what she has done over the past few years, but especially this year. Nothing at all worthy to prepare her for Oxford or some kind of career beyond her education. She is a train wreck.

Yeah, looks like she removed the description she lazily left in from last year, but the whole thing is still full of errors.

Must try harder, Rubert.
Every sane person would run a text that should be published somewhere at least through a basic built-in spell check just to make sure there are no obvious mistakes🙈

Not in Roobee’s defense by any means, but handled correctly, carrot makes a very nice sweet dish. In fact, carrot casserole (made with carrot puree and rice porridge, and topped with bread crumbs) is a staple of the Finnish Christmas table. I can totally see sweetening it further with a bit of sugar or syrup and eating it with ice cream or whipped cream. Also I would be remiss not to mention an even sweeter Christmastime dish we have - it’s made with swede, otherwise known as ROOTABAGA! You boil it to death, mash it, add syrup and bake it till it dies a second time. (Very much an acquired taste.)

Whatever it is she made doesn’t look remotely appetising though.

also I feel the need to add I do actually know the correct spelling of rutabaga, it’s just somehow exponentially more funny to me to spell it the other way
Yeah in an indian restaurant I had a really nice dessert. I think it was called Gajar Ka Halwa. It was similar to your description. Grated down and sort of caramelised in the pan. And then served with a north indian style icecream. Very syrupy and soft and nice with the cream. Off topic lol but felt like sharing that because it was so damn delicious.

I must confess I had also wondered whether she'd try to switch once she's got her foot through those 'hallowed Oxford portals'.

She has never given the impression of being in the least interested in 1500-1700 literature. Not at all. What I am now wondering is it really that easy to switch to another MSt?

One thing I do know is she needs to move on from what's in my school bag videos. She's 23. It's just strange. Also why carry all that lot? She'll be like the scene in legally blond where everyone else has a laptop and she's there with a pad and paper. She probably now has a Winnie-the-pooh pad and a piglet pen.

My fiancee and I watched the video and it was almost like it was shot in a lesbian movie for some moments. I think Ruby wouldn't be able to queerbate as she is just a bit too obvious to do something like that.

I think that Ruby is just obsessed with Blakney with her being her best friend and that Blakney is rather similar to her. I think that she sees Blakney as the be-all and end all friend, especially as they are so like apparently have a lot of similar interests. Admittedly, I could see Blakney outgrowing Ruby as her life seems to much more dynamic than Ruby especially when you compare university experiences.

For Ruby's potential future love life. I don't know why as it is very specific but I could just see her being one of those plain women who lives in a village and is very involved in the local community like in the 1930s and before who is married to the local reverend/vicar. She just gives me those vibes for some reason but I don't know if i it because she lives in the country and likes vintage clothing etc .
