Please don't judge 🙈 but a Maltese x miniature poodle. My last dog was beagle x collie and before that a jack russel.

I dunno I feel there's a bit of a stigma with poodle crosses at the moment 😬 I'm going to visit the pup with both mum and dad tomorrow.
Maltese x mini poodle sounds so much better than anything with beagle in it to me 😅
If it wasn't for a mini poodle needing clipping often I would've got one just didn't want to have that as an additional cost. I'd even picked a name for a mini poodle 😄

No judgement! We all have different lifestyles/needs/tastes etc... I am just glad for the 2 dogs I have had that I didn't choose their breed as I could never decide - I love all the dogs!!

Enjoy the visit with them today ☺

I didn't go and visit the puppies in the end. I had a gut feeling that it was a puppy farm (or whatever you call it when they just keep getting witches pregnant and selling the puppies cheaply).

So I'm a bit disappointed but probably dodged a bullet.

I think if you saw them on pets at home you can click on their profile and see show many adverts they've posted before?

I'm a bit confused about the way of doing things when buying pups. I thought you should visit and see with mum and meet the breeder before putting down a deposit? But some breeders are asking for a deposit to reserve without me seeing it first. I was going to visit a pup the other day but the breeder reserved it for someone who paid a deposit even though they hadn't visited.

I messaged a breeder this morning who came recommended and she has a litter due in Feb. She said I could pay a deposit and visit when they are 4 weeks old. Is that the way things are done?

Hmmm I think it depends as I got asked for a kitten to pay a deposit I didn't and turned out they were scammers. But in your situation I may do since they have been recommended to you so won't be scammers. Guess if they are popular breeders just means you'll definitely get a puppy. Just what happens if you don't end up wanting one from the litter will they give the deposit back?
What breed are they? 😄

Well yeah exactly what if you just feel that none of them are for you! They are mi iature poodle x cavapoo. F1b I think they call it. I'd prefer extra poodle anyway.

Well the one that was recommended is cavapoo. But I think even on lets 4 homes people just send the deposit.

Some highly sought after breeders will take a deposit to stay on their list which is when redeemable when a pup becomes available that suits your needs when temperament evaluation is done.

I wouldnt pay a deposit for a pup that is born but you havent yet visited. Some will do it to prove intent I guess as they dont want everyone and anyone coming around. I think with Pets at Home your deposit is protected potentially but check that out.

Paying a deposit before meeting the pups is a bit of a red flag to me. I would want to meet the breeder and the parent dogs before parting with any money personally.

Personally I wouldn’t pay a deposit, how do you choose which pup to get if all the people who have put deposits down want the same one lol? Also if they have any health issues or accidents are they going to let you know or give you the option to have deposit back?

Generally first to pay deposit gets first pick. When we got out first ever pup, you didnt pick until 6 weeks when theyre little personalities have come out. We were actually the last people to pay a deposit.

We saw the pups at 3 weeks with mum and siblings and agreed we wanted one of them and paid deposit. We then went back to meet our pup at 6 weeks.

With our breeder if your pup was found to have a health issue after deposit is paid then you'd get your deposit back if you no longer wished to proceed with the purchase.

Do puppies kind of regress a bit when they are 1? It's ours 1st birthday today and the last couple of weeks I feel like he has become a bit naughtier, chewing stuff again, running off more on walks and he has just tried to rip up my rug 🥴😆 Is this just a teenager phase?!

Yeah between 6-18months they will become 'teenagers'

I feel like from 8-12 months he really calmed down and was much more manageable, then just the last couple weeks is being a fool again 🤣🤣
My pup is a year now and he has only just started to settle if he is in the room with people which is nice he usually would only settle if I left him alone. My trainer said you'll have a different dog by 18 months 😅

All my dogs have taken until 2 years to calm fully down.

Said we wouldn’t get a puppy again…. Here we are with a puppy spaniel. What do you all do for teething? Our breeder said to freeze carrots but she just chews them and spits them everywhere 🤣

Soak a small towel or blanket and freeze for a couple of hours, twist it and fold in half while its wet so it freezes in a rope shape- they will hopefully chew and enjoy! With my pup you can see her resting it in her mouth and it soothing her gums for a few seconds she is clearly relieved from pain

Old tea towels are great for this. Our pup preferred chewing on that to any of the chew things we bought her. We also found slicing up a banana and freezing it and giving her a slice or two was good to have something quick to grab when she was getting a bit mouthy/bitey.
