Urgh he's such an arrogant bastard. Telling forensic experts they are in the wrong job, telling police they look silly. Utter sadistic, pathetic piece of shit.

Regular meetings with the foster parents are in the best interests of the LAC. JV/JF’s complaints and cancellations should have been a massive reg flag, however much the SW liked them. I wonder if there was a bit of classism and/or ageism at play

Police interviews
The only believable part is that the poor baby is sick as soon as he sees this disgusting creature. The fear and terror he must have had to live with, I think it will stay with me forever.

Did I read somewhere on this thread he asked a friend to go and remove sex toys as he did not want his Mum to find them. Is this more proof of his panic and trying to destroy evidence. I cannot even believe I just typed that.

I just want to swear a lot right now. This afternoons evidence has been heartbreaking. Thankfully I think its enough to seal the deal, without any room for doubt!
I’m just glad the pathologist was so emphatic in her statement about the bruising to his throat not being possible during the life saving efforts as he had no pulse to cause a bruise. They can try and argue with facts (and blame the decent people who were trying to save this innocent baby) but science is not on their side- I’m hopeful that there’s no way they can wriggle out of anything now. Absolute creatures.

Why is it unrealistic? There is intense vetting and security checks on people wanting to join the police. I believe that includes checking their digital footprints. I think the same should apply to anyone wanting to adopt as a minimum. It’s intrusive but necessary 🤷🏼‍♀️
I don’t necessarily think it’s unrealistic but I think it’s hard to ‘draw the line’ which is something I posted a while back. Obviously if there is evidence someone has viewed indecent images of children then that is clear cut but what about other types of porn? What I personally would consider gross and inappropriate wouldn’t be the same for others and it also doesn’t automatically mean someone then will go ahead and commit SA of a minor.
Then you’ve got the whole other side of the coin of the dark web - a lot of this material is accessible freely on there, a lot of the ‘traffic’ to these sites isn’t easily traceable. Same with the chat room type stuff. You’d have to have digital forensic experts attached to social services to be able to perform vigorous checks - we already know how underfunded most social services are anyway so I think that is where it comes under the ‘unrealistic’ umbrella. I think sadly, checks like these would put off good parents willing to adopt which isn’t in the children’s best interests as I don’t think these types of checks would actually manage to prevent anything like this happening again.
Abusers, by nature, are manipulative and hide their tracks very well. It would be easy for a person to delete their search history or hide it during the process and then continue afterwards.

I think for me, it’s the checks after that should be more stringent. Any hospital visit should be treated as deliberate harm until confirmed otherwise and I think they should have a secondary social worker that reviews cases with fresh eyes to try prevent the element of bias/closeness to the family.

I don't know much about the adoption process other than what I've seen on tv but wouldn't it make sense to complete a mandatory parenting course? Covering all the practical side but also explaining about how to support emotionally, how to comfort, explaining about child development and how you can't spoil a baby with cuddles.
They do all this. Well, they used to. The process to get approved as adoptive parents was/is vigorous and long. They’re told about “therapeutic parenting” and the challenges of adopting children who have been exposed to drugs and alcohol, or neglect/abuse, and who might have attachment issues, medical issues and SEND.

Makes me wonder whether Varley truly engaged with the process, or just sat there not taking it in, seeing it as a series of small hurdles towards the end goal of getting a child, iyswim.

My eldest son was unwell with bronchitis when he was 7. He was fine. One evening he suddenly wasn’t. I called an ambulance who came out and assessed him as fine. A hour later, I was still worried so drove him to the hospital. Husband stayed at home with the other children. While driving him myself to the hospital (which I worked at) he went into respiratory arrest. This was his first ever hospital visit. Skip a long story short, I was Interrogated MULTIPLE times about how unusual his presentation and symptoms were. He was tubed and transferred to the Evelina. I travelled with him. When I got to the Evelina I was interrogated again and again, I was asked multiple times if I’d ’given him something’. For the first night, I wasn’t allowed to be with him unsupervised! I guess tests showed I hadn’t harmed him, as from then on I feel I was treated with more compassion and respect by the staff.

My eldest son was unwell with bronchitis when he was 7 . . . Not such a long story short, but my point is a first A&E visit in 7 years, and I was under instant suspicion about the severity of his symptoms. Anyway, he’s nearly 26 now, and his only other A&E visit was aged 11 when he went into anaphylactic shock on a school trip to the Eden project! I don’t think he’s seen a GP since then.
My eldest son was unwell with bronchitis when he was 7 . . . I was Interrogated MULTIPLE times

And this is the way it should be - upsetting parents is less important than protecting children.

These two POS have been aided and abetted every step of the way! Because they are gay? Because they are "professional"? "Because they are middle-class"? Because they are male? Who knows - what we do know is that because of these factors, or a combination of them, or some other characteristic, almost everybody gave them a free pass to abuse and eventually kill a tiny child. The few people who did express concern, such as the foster parents, were brushed aside.

People were apparently so keen to confirm DEI that they ignored the tragic little life in the centre. The life that SHOULD have have been in the centre of their concern

Does make you wonder if they've been mentioned in her statement for a reason 😔
Yeah I think a lot of nuggets are being dropped that will be significant later. Fair play to her for refusing to do that, I bet she has preserved vital evidence

The level of narcissim and sadism displayed by JV is off the fuckin scale. I have worked with these kind of deviants before and I have never seen anything like this. Most abusers (not only child abusers) cover up their physical abuse. In that they will be very careful where they inflict pain / leave a mark so as to not raise suspicion (ie not on face etc). They didn't even do this. So confident (arrogant) in their surroundings, and those involved with them that they didn't have to go to such lengths. Quite simply , these bastards were hiding in plain sight.

Just catching up on the podcast. The way JV described Preston as needy and spoilt by his foster carer makes me so angry and upset. Thinking back to my own child at 9 months, she was happy and secure but also wanted to be with me every moment of the day. To think those POS were keeping Preston away from the woman who he would have thought of as his mother during such a confusing period of his life is just so cruel and awful. And that’s before the abuse.
Someone upthread said they thought JV and JMF adopted Preston with the intention of abusing him. I think so too. They clearly did not have any loving feelings towards him. If you’re a pedalo you know that about yourself. No way did they think they loved kids and desperately wanted a child to love and raise.

God, listening to The Trial podcast and my Christ they really pulled the Wool over everyone’s eyes, and they must have done it brilliantly because the times when concerns should have been raised and subsequently investigated are numerous, it’s very concerning. Preston fractured his elbow and Vardy changed his story about what happened, once saying it was from ‘guiding him back into position’ to sleep and telling someone else it was trapped in the bars of his cot. The social worker seems to have been more concerned about how terrible Vardy appeared to be feeling about the incident than the fact the baby had a cast on his elbow from supposedly being put down to sleep. She even mentions how they’d discussed how they could get some much needed couple time away from Preston.

Previous to that incident he had head bruises from what they told doctors was him pulling a toy box down on his own head. No further questions asked, apparently. It’s appalling.
I’m so angry that so many so called professionals came into contact with this little baby and his adoptive abusers and did absolutely fuck all but rolled over and accepted the poor little Jamie act. It’s fucking outrageous! I want to know why?

That social worker needs to be struck off. Any child that presents at a GP or hospital so many times for so many different reasons needs to be investigated immediately. A child in the care system should raise even more screaming alarm bells. In Preston’s case this happened over a 4 month period. 4 months! And nothing but pandering to Jamie. Preston should’ve been instantly removed. So many people with blood on their hands here it is truly terrible.

There's many excellent SW out there doing unimaginably hard work. There are also some bad eggs, like any profession. I imagine there are also a lot of people who think negatively of them because they got their child taken 'for no reason' which is inevitably bollocks. You don't hear about the ones doing an amazing job because they aren't newsworthy.

I'm not a social worker, to be clear.

This is exactly the problem with perception. I have witnessed and been apart of many great stories of supporting families, keeping them together and really scaffolding them into the life they deserve. Unfortunately, that’s it though, they leave the system and move on with their lives. The public only really hear about the tragedies - as they should.

Varley's story doesn't make sense in regards to the video of Preston struggling to breathe. Was he struggling to breathe before or after the incident in the bath? Why didn't Varley call an ambulance instead of moving the bath seat, changing Preston's nappy twice and drying his hair? You would want to make contact with the emergency services straight away for resuscitation advice.
Horrible to say but I think it’s happened a fair few times before due to the nature of the abuse. Preston’s recovered on previous occasions (albeit with chest infections and seizures) but this time has been too bad. Probably why JV in such a state because he thought he’d get away with it again. So he’s maybe taken the time to get ready for the inevitable hospital visit when Preston’s looked poorly but instead of recovering he’s gone into respiratory arrest. I wonder about the 111 callback on a previous occasion that went unanswered, baby was probably in a lot of distress after being abused but had settled so they didn’t bother to get him checked over.

Sounds like Preston has bruises to his forehead almost constantly. Yes, babies of that age very occasionally bang their heads hard enough to bruise, but the sight of Preston with new bruises appearing on his head all the time should have rang alarm bells. JV’s mother saw him a lot - what on earth did she think?

Her comment at the hospital suggested she had fears that he was being mistreated.
And how many bumps/ bruises does a child of that age accumulate? Mostly they are playing in a comparatively protected environment - they may accidentally bump themselves on a cot bar or a table leg but most parents keep a close watch, move anything that could hurt them if they hit it, keep them off hard surfaces and away from sharp objects etc.

Preston had FORTY BRUISES on his head alone. Including behind his ear - that isn't an "easily knocked" place. I don't even want to think what these f*ckers have been doing to him.

Way to completely misconstrue what I said, well done
Fwiw I didn't read your comment that way. The wording was sloppy in part but I agree mostly with the sentiment. I think the first part about being held in high regard is true, and the SW IS a prime example of that. I don't blame the hospital staff, they repeatedly raised issues, the SW whitewashed these issues.
I'm not sure if it was anything to do with their being gay men or just the general air of respectability they gave off, but she definitely wasn't seeing the wood for the trees.

I think the reassuring thing about BNE is we know how thorough and smart he is. So any conviction that comes will be absolutely sound. With one of the top KCs around there is no way anyone can claim there wasn’t a fair trial, or that there was any omission. When the guilty verdict comes in it will be the right one and having a top barrister defending is crucial to get justice for Preston.

I had a look on Facebook and found this, JV has lost loads of weight and has the bleached blond hair mentioned in the podcast:

Something about him sets my teeth on edge. I can’t stomach seeing or listening to him, he’s so awful. The smarmy arrogance and bad attitude radiating off him here!! All this going on and he’s made time for a bleach and tone in between. That is me being petty and picking holes in the fat grub I’m sure, but even that has made me think he’s a total self-absorbed wrongen - who would bother when they’ve got, ya know, a rape and murder charge against a baby going on. 🤮

I’ve been unable to respond to a couple of posts in here - I think there’s a glitch, so apologies for not addressing posters directly.

It is 100% accurate that professionals get treated differently by SS. They do. It’s for a multitude of reasons, the sw is intimidated by them. They make lots of complaints and know how to work the system. They are motivated and educated and know how to intimidate sw. Many sw are underpaid and overworked and would resist the inevitable locking of horns.

A peadophile doesn’t operate in a linear way. They are always a pedophile but the most persuasive predictor is OPPORTUNITY. A pedophile can, not offend for years and then the partner gets a night shift job and it starts.

It’s about power and he - without a doubt enjoyed the attention of the meetings and the vetting process.

He had tried to create a narrative about a problematic child in the same way that groomers and rapists have done for years. Problem child - difficult behaviour- challenging.

The sw without a doubt in my opinion is not fit for practice.
It's interesting you say about complaints because Varley and McGowan did put in a complaint about the foster parents:

I'm not a mum and have never been especially maternal. However,as with the Lucy Letby trial, the details of what happened to little Preston are both heartbreaking and horrifying. How anyone can do this to anyone, let alone a little person who can neither talk nor fight back is as low as it gets. My heart breaks every time I read something more. Some human beings are scum and have no right to exist within a humane society.

Like others have said, if the phrase 'Lessons will be learned' is trotted out one more time after this case is finished...and any Inquiry that may follow, the people saying it should be held to account. What lessons? What are you going to do differently? How? When? Demonstrate the evidence that those lessons haven't just been learned but acted upon. There will always be abusers amongst us but there was no need for it to escalate to this level of depravity. Again, as others have said, the people who saw red flags and did nothing should also face severe consequences.

And damn this evil couple to hell.

Just reading today's live updates from the Manchester Evening News and it seems that Preston's mother was going to contest the adoption:

View attachment 3975728
Hardly a great prospect as a parent is he?! Maybe sort your life out before you go adopting a child. Also, I may be wrong, but I seem to think it’s a regular occurrence for people to contest adoption of their kids. I’ve seen too many TikToks of “social services took my kids for no reason”. It’s beyond heartbreaking for the birth mother all the same, whatever life she’s lived. I can’t imagine how she feels knowing he was taken for his own “protection” and handed over to monsters. And her poor family as well.
