I don’t know why I still get the feeling there’s missing pieces in this case. To find no inkling of any previous sexual interest in children, to go through the incredibly intrusive process of adoption only to alarmingly quickly start harming the child. It’s like there’s a bit that’s been lost in the middle to explain the escalation. I can see why people who knew them may have struggled to make the leap to believing they had done something so heinous.

Very surprised that a unanimous verdict came in so soon. Im relieved that justice has been done and will be remembering Preston on his birthday tomorrow.
Interesting write up in the Guardian - friends were told they decided JV would take the year off, because they both earned similar amounts but JMF had the potential for commission/bonus payments.

I’ve never seen a baby look like that in my life.I have throughout the trial but
I’m still leaning more towards the fact it wasn’t about a sexual attraction to minors, I lean more to the fact it was the act of the suffocation and the cruelty that got JV off. I think there was an element of escalation with the cruelty and part of that cruelty included SA rather than the SA being the primary focus. Not everyone that SAs a minor has a sexual attraction to children…SA is about power, and control. The act he did to Preston effectively controlled his breathing…I would put money on that they both consumed pornographic material with similar themes and its likely that those materials escalated until they decided to get their hands on the “perfect” victim - a non verbal, vulnerable child.

I can imagine sitting there through this trial and then the verdicts have meant they have questioned every aspect of their lives and the monsters they gave birth to. I’d cry and be in a state of shock too realising the child I’d raised had turned into murdering and abusive b
I know I might be being a bit generous here but i hope they are shell shocked and in tears to learn that they have raised monsters rather than perceived injustice. Can you imagine learning that someone that you brought into the world is capable of that?
Considering JV was loudly complaining to anyone who would listen that Preston was a terrible sleeper, having him had impacted on their relationship etc, why wouldn't you put him to bed when he's tired? I’m so relieved they are guilty of all charges, but like other posters have said there surely needs to be some investigation how they went from supposedly law abiding members of society who can pass a rigorous adoption process into abusing a baby to death in 4 months.
Maybe there was dark web content on devices previously and when they went through the process they got rid of anything incriminating. I just can’t believe that sick desire suddenly arrives in your head, you have done some lesser offending and just not been caught.

I wonder if the reason why Varley's mum was hardly mentioned in the pod/ reporting and why there was no evidence from her may be because she may be facing charges, or was considered for them?
I think that would have been reported by now. I expect the pod didn’t want to distract from the perps.
This is an extemely distressing case, to the point where I've lost sleep and cried for this poor wee boy. Can only hope for prison justice now.
Sounds similar to JV’s trajectory of school technician to teacher. Not that this could explain why he decided to commit heinous acts upon a baby. I doubt we will ever see a confession from him - he will deny it for the rest of his life.
I’ve said this before, but out of the few photos of Preston that have been circulated by the media, the one that gets used the most is such a strange photo. He looks stiff, pained and uneasy. I found it odd from the very first time I saw it, way before I knew what they did to him.
