What will you be doing instead? Hospital birth?
There’s another hospital about 20 mins away that also has a birth centre attached to it so hopefully they aren’t too busy in January. I’m just not keen on the idea of having to travel while in labour as my last labour was really quick and I almost didn’t make it there in time and I lived like 3 mins away from the birth centre 🙈

Oh that would be worrying for you! Fingers crossed this baby isn’t quite so keen to fly out!

For those of you that have already had a baby....what's the one thing you wish you had been told the first time around?

I'm terrified of labour so I've got the feeling I might regret asking this 😂

It always feel a bit back to front giving this advice but:
DONT LISTEN TO ANYONE’S ADVICE!
If you ask 100 people for advice on a topic you will get 100 different answers, and everyone is convinced they are right. Be strong in your convictions of what you want to do with your baby, and don’t let other people’s advice or opinion on the matter sway you.

If something doesn’t feel right to do, then don’t do it (for example if you were being told by people to cry it out and it didn’t feel right to you, don’t do it). Just smile and nod and do what you think is best. It is your baby after all!

The bleeding afterwards! Everyone goes on about labour but no one ever mentioned the afterwards and I knew you bled afterwards just didn’t expect it for 6 weeks. Also I wish your told how to care for your stitches more, I left hospital clueless.

In terms of labour, be open to anything as you just never know what’s going to happen.

And it’s not fun, but some of us have been back for may rounds so it’s not too awful (and I’ve had some pretty rough times!)

That when your waters go, they don’t just go and that’s it, mine went and then kept gushing with each contraction and I wasn’t expecting it at all!

How much having a wee for the first few days afterwards can sting 😬😬

As someone who has had to have all my babies forcibly removed using various instruments, it always interests me greatly that some labours are so quick!
Everyone is telling me this one will just fly out, but for me last time being even quicker than with my first meant a ridiculous amount of pain 🥴

Oh god, that does not sound good!

In terms of the stinging pee, I’ve never had that (and I’ve been ripped now to stern 🤣). Just drink loads of water, as much as you can for days, and it’s so dilute your wee won’t sting.

I highly recommend making sure you have lots of dried fruit, and other things to help keep the bowels moving. After my first I thought I was having a second 🤣 And that was several weeks after birth. All the changes in hormones and body can slow things down in there, so dried apricots and prunes are my go to snack for a few weeks

Remember to read up on csections just in case! I skipped all the csection parts in all the books, I didn't know anyone who had one and it just genuinely never crossed my mind I could have one until I had an emergency one!

I’m 25 weeks with my 4th. Had no morning sickness this time, instead have vitb12 deficiency, which is a fabulous treat 🙄.
All my previous births have been quick, the last one was 45 minutes. Hoping this one won’t just fly out.

This didn’t happen for me. My waters went and pretty much flowed like a running tap until baby came out. No gushing at all.

I found breast feeding increased bleeding afterwards and prelonged it. I stopped breast feeding for many reasons but the less I breast feed the quicker the bleeding stopped.

I’ve never been aware of my waters going. I always thought it would like on tv/movies where it’s gushing out.

When my waters went I expected them to stop, as in emptying a bucket of water- there’s an end to it. Doesn’t work that way though, wish someone had told me 🤣

This makes a lot of sense as to why I bleed for so long (8+ weeks after birth). I’ve always kind of lumped it in with having very heavy periods and assumed it was all connected. But I have breastfed, and this would then account for the longer than expected bleeding time. I was told after my c section they’d “clear me out” more and I’d hardly bleed at all. Was still bleeding well over 6 weeks later!

Yeh exactly this! I thought once they’d broken that would be it, I was amazed at how much water there seemed to be! Every time I moved or had a contraction more would come out.

I think it’s because breast feeding makes the uterus contact, so every time it contracts, it pushes more blood out again.

21 weeks pregnant with 4th baby, struggling with PGP, my c-sec is 18 weeks tomorrow!
Not having another :ROFLMAO: but with my last (my third pregnancy but our fourth kiddo) my PGP was horrendous. All my sympathy!!

You don’t need to be terrified. Honestly NOBODY has any idea what they are doing with a first baby (or even sometimes after no1) but it’s all there inside you and you’ll surprise yourself at how easily it comes. Little things like being confident holding a newborn, and knowing what they need, it all comes together.
This! So so well put ❤

Don’t let horror stories and negative social media scare you. Everyone rushes to tell you negative stories, but they miss all those really lovely little moments, where your confidence just grows and suddenly you feel like you’ve got it.

Also, although being in hospital can sound a bit daunting if you have to stay in, appreciate the time to put your feet up and just be with your baby. As soon as you’re home again, it’s so easy to get caught up with all the household stuff again.
