I never had a scan that showed twins, that’s another lady on here. I’m wondering is it my age? Late 30s? Xx
Do you have any health conditions or have you had any surgeries in the past? When I mentioned that I’d had an ovarian cyst at my booking appointment, my midwife said I may get referred to an obstetrician due to that.

Yes I have a bit of a heart problem, so it must be that then. I just wondered as no one had mentioned I would be seeing one so quickly xx

Oh apologies 🙈 I’m so sorry!

Maybe your age, I always have a consultant appointment around 14-16 weeks to determine risk factors (mine are always low) and then what sort of care you may need. So it might be something similar.

I had my first appointment with my consultant come through not long after my 12 week scan.
Not sure if an obstetrician is the same thing?
But if so it will be anything at all that makes you high risk 😊

It will be your heart.
It's a good thing, you're getting an increased level of care, it will be consultant led rather than midwife.

Simply put, they have a bunch of differently weighted criteria they use to do a clinical risk assessment to see what level of care you'll require, they get the info at booking appt. Smoker status, age, BMI, health conditions, previous pregnancy history, socio-econmic factors (of both you and your partner) are all assessed. Certain factors inc some health conditions mean an automatic referral to consultant. So say you're 39 but have no other flags not be high enough risk to need a consultant, would be midwide led care. If you were say 22 but had a family history of genetic disabilities, were a smoker and were obese, you'd see a consultant. If you were having triplets you'd be consultant led care regardless of the other factors and so on.

As a 38 year old smoker (quit when I found out) with no other factors I'm still not considered high risk.

If you scroll to the green, amber and red on this document, it will give you an idea of risk factors.

Thanks so much! As I have no idea about any of this. I suppose I will soon find out but I must admit I’m a little nervous about it all xxx

Feel free to message any time if you need someone to talk to!
I panicked on my first pregnancy when my consultant letter came though, I thought it meant something was wrong!

Just wondering what was said about your ovarian cyst? I have a very large one that I’ve been waiting since March to have removed but obviously because of COVID I haven’t been able to, I told my GP and she just said it’ll be fine and that I’ll have it removed after? I’m in very early stages so way to early to see a obstetrician x

I think it's to basically keep an eye on the cysts mainly and you.
Because there are chances they could rupture/twist ect and I think you're possibly at higher risk of GD. Not 100% sure though ❤

Okay wow never realised, mine is really big and growing fast so it a bit of a worry but I’m sure it’ll all be fine.

I got to see my wee bean last night (they dated me at about 11 weeks), was a private scan. It wouldn't stop moving about it was amazing to see 😍 definitely only one in there now too. The toilet bowl has become my best friend and that's me signed off work for another 2 weeks 🙈 praying this eases off soon 😭😭

I’m seeing the obstetrician in February as a precaution but the midwife said it shouldn’t be a problem. Mine was last measured at 4cm in August but as it hadn’t grown since my last scan and wasn’t causing me too many symptoms they didn’t seem keen on removing it.

Sending love, the sickness is horrendous. I feel horrible today. Great to hear you have been able to get a few more weeks off work, will hopefully make life much easier for you having one less thing to worry about while you feel so awful

I've got my 20/21 week scan tomorrow, will see if my maternal instinct that it's a girl is right or not! 😬 I've definitely been feeling lots of little kicks lately too!

My vomiting and nausea has come back, been stuck in bed all day. Though could also be down to the amount of Celebrations I've scoffed over the past few days.

Mine started off as 3 then grew to 5.9 and I haven’t had it looked at since August so don’t really know where I stand now but it’s not giving me any gip so hopefully all good! ❤

Calling the GP in the morning to get the ball rolling and to be referred to midwife etc. Going to mention that my shoulder is hurting. No other significant pain anywhere else but my left shoulder is very painful. Probably nothing but definitely worth mentioning, right?

Make sure you let us know when the results are in!

I’m convinced this baby is a boy. My husband says girl. He has had 3/3 right so far (I was wrong last time) so we will see (only 16 looongggg weeks to go 🤣)

Yes, definitely mention this. Shoulder pain can be indicative of a lot of different things, randomly, so I always think it’s worth a mention and a check out.

I agree it would be something to mention. They may suggest getting an early scan

Absolutely worth mentioning asap, shoulder pain can be unrelated, not to scare you but it could also point to an ectopic pregnancy so it needs to be checked out.
