I think this is the underlying story actually. He's played a blinder here. Now he has the ability to say to his critics it's homophobia!Arise saint Phil of Schofield. Well played, well played. He's gone from finally being outed as a nasty bully after years of picking on mainly women, to being a brave and courageous hero!
Unfortunately yes it is. 2 young women were physically beaten and abused on public transport recently. And that’s just one exampleHomophobia isn’t “rife” these days. Sexuality has had protected status in law for over 15 years... even the church is permitting same sex marriages.
Thank god I’m not the only one. I’ve always thought he was gay. I thought everyone knew that.I was more surprised when I found out he had a wife
If you read the pre marriage interview he gave (posted a few pages back) the warning signs were all there....he didn't seem in love, was concerned about HIV, was questioned about being gay.....surely she knew, or was ignoring it.I really hope it was a marriage of convenience and that she and the kids knew from day 1 that was the arrangement, because I feel more sorry for the wives and kids in this situation - in a few months time, he'll be photographed with his boyfriend in a glamorous setting, and the headline will be along the lines of 'he is the love of my life, and everything is perfect'. Meanwhile, his ex-wife will be photographed looking scruffy and miserable struggling to push a loaded Sainsbury's trolley with litre of vodka perched on the top.
I want her to give an interview looking amazing saying yes, our loving marriage was a lie, but Philip was always open and as long as he brought home the bacon, we were great friends and I was happy to play along.
Not forgetting that he also was married to a woman and gay.The press haven’t changed - don’t forget that only a few months ago Gareth Thomas was forced to reveal he was HIV positive. Journalists were threatening to run the story and even told his parents he was HIV positive!
Absolutely this! Lgbtq men need to stop using women in this way. It's selfish and callous, and accrual very common. Not really comfortable with the immense admiration, "so brave" etc. He would have been brave 30 years ago, but instead he choose to use a woman, who likely wasn't consenting just to be a "beard", whereas she went into things thinking it was a genuine romantic relationship. He has claimed the public narrative to distance it away from the bullying allegations, and made public with such fanfare something that today is so mundane. His poor wife is basically limited to showing how "supportive" she is. else she be accused on intolerance, despite her being lied to and used for public image because Schoff, couldn't be brave to come out, or at least not drag a woman into his insecurities like this.
Think this is something prominent LGB spokespeople need to have a word with themselves about, it's not right to marry someone of the opposite sex, to use them for public image, to have children etc when they believe the relationship is a genuine het one. Even if we could understand reasoning why he would have been scared to be himself openly at the time, doesn't make it right. He should have just quietly divorced his wife, and gave her some dignity, instead of splashing this on the media whilst still being married.
He wasn't using her for fucks sake. Not really comfortable with the immense admiration, "so brave" etc. He would have been brave 30 years ago, but instead he choose to use a woman, who likely wasn't consenting just to be a "beard", whereas she went into things thinking it was a genuine romantic relationship. Again, he's not been using her. How do you know what's been going on? Also men can't be the L in LGBTQ, so....Absolutely this! Lgbtq men need to stop using women in this way. It's selfish and callous, and accrual very common.
And to be fair, you have no idea what’s really happened either. He wasn't using her for fucks sake.
And if that's what people think then you really do not understand the complexities of love and sexuality. You don't know what's happened, you don't know how hard this is for him. You have no clue. And it would be nice if people would have an ounce of compassion instead of assuming the worst about this situation. This cannot be easy for any of the family involved, but you just think that he's been manipulating and lying.

I have more of an idea what it's like to deal with your sexuality than most of the people on here, to be honest. And to be fair, you have no idea what’s really happened either.
What else is it then? No doubt he loved his wife as a friend and mother to his children, just not as a wife. He went into a relationship lying, and continued to lie for decades, and now has had no thought to her dignity, by making the narrative all about how brave he is. He could have divorced his wife first, then made an interview saying he loved the time spent together and the kids, but it was wrong to marry a woman, and at the time he felt unable to be himself. Are you going to give a clap on the back to every gay man who chooses to marry a woman because they are insecure, or because a het marriage "gives them something" like status or bio children? Sorry, but it seems like when stories like this happen, the wives just either get ignored, or else have to show how supportive they are, no consideration to how they feel about being used, lied to, or even cheated on.He wasn't using her for fucks sake.

He wasn't a teenager when he choose to marry a woman, nor was he facing anymore legal or societal pressures of that era, funny enough the majority of gay men or women didn't marry the opposite sex and keep up the farce for decades. He was an adult at that time, and should have taken responsibility for his own insecurities about being gay, rather than drag and dupe a woman into them. Different story if they both agreed this was a marriage for "face", but apparently it wasn't. How can you degrade her with all this media attention too, rather than let the divorce settle and allow her to have her privacy, instead of making her say how supportive she is of being treated so poorly.I have more of an idea what it's like to deal with your sexuality than most of the people on here, to be honest.
My best friend used to date him- he is NOT gay.I wonder who is next to come out as gay ......David Walliams possibly
Really??My best friend used to date him- he is NOT gay.
Really??
I've always got the biggest vibe from him. And from David Mitchell too

Well he was certainly extremely into women and women only when they were together. I think the whole camp act is quite clearly an ‘act’ and he’s said if he was gay he would just come out.
Perfectly putNot really comfortable with the immense admiration, "so brave" etc. He would have been brave 30 years ago, but instead he choose to use a woman, who likely wasn't consenting just to be a "beard", whereas she went into things thinking it was a genuine romantic relationship. He saw Meghan Markle blame all the hate on racism, and decided he wanted some of that, but obviously only had sexuality to use as his defence.I think this is the underlying story actually. He's played a blinder here. Now he has the ability to say to his critics it's homophobia!
