Sorry to hear this, please do not be too hard on yourself.
We all make mistakes, big and small, you did what you thought was the right thing at the time. There was no intention for the animal to come to any harm but sadly it did. Like l said, a mistake.

The fact that you are devastated shows what a kind, animal loving person you are. Remember that, that's the real you, not the mistake you made.
Internet hug x
Thank you, I really appreciate that. It will take me some time I think x

Hi Gembo, things seem ok at the moment I went to see family yesterday and had some good hugs with our boy. I think he's learning that he can't jump on the sofa on his own anymore, before he would launch himself at the sofa and fail to get up, but now he sits and waits to be lifted up. We've made him a nice cosy quiet corner on the floor too. He seems okay for the most part.

Thank you for thinking of us ❤
Hope he will be ok for a long while yet but we are all here if you need us xx

Try not to be so hard on yourself. Even if you had made the phone call the outcome would probably have been the same. It's not your fault.
Thank you, they said it still could have gone either way but the what if is just killing me, it’s a very painful feeling, I am struggling so much

I can whole heartily sympathise with this.
I hold a lot of guilt for not doing more for my cat. Please do not beat yourself up, I know how hard it is not the think of the what ifs but it doesn’t help anyone. Please be kind to yourself. 💗
Thank you, I do appreciate that. I think it’s going to take me some time to work through and will need to talk it through to get it clear in my head. Feel heartbroken.

I am not sure if it is an option where you live but here there are vets that come to your house and put your animal to "sleep" there. Some people prefer it as their animal is in their own calming environment, on their own bed and not distressed. They also let you spend as much time as you want with your pet before doing it.
The saddest article I ever read before was from a vet who said the worst part of their job was when an owner would take their pet to be put to sleep, sometimes the owner wouldn't want to be in the same room and the animal would start panicking and looking for them 😭. So never go out of the room, be there for your sweet pets.
I'm not sure if that's an option, I'll ask mum and see if it's something to think about. Our boy is always so nervous when going to the vets, it would make it even harder to see him so anxious when the time comes...

Oh gosh that is so sad, it's such a difficult thing I'm in bits just imagining being there and witnessing his passing but then I really wouldn't want him to be alone and left with strangers. It's such a difficult thing...

Hey I’m kind of feeling like this but in a different way. My cat was attacked by a fox around a month back and broke his leg he had a vets stay and operation and has to be on cage rest for a while. I was obviously complelty in love with him before but I’m literally obsessed with him now and thinkin about what has happened to him makes me well up it’s really affected me for some reason. I can’t leave him alone for like two minutes now and always fuss him and wrap him in blankets . Maybe I just feel sorry for him or something but yeah what I’m saying is... pets really pull on our heart strings. Most people adore their pets so it’s normal how U feel. I dread losing one of mine :( I would be in bits for weeks I think xxx
Oh poor thing! I hope he is recovering well. I think it's natural to overly fuss when they're not well, I know I go into super nurturing motherly mode. They really are special little beings. Wishing yours a speedy recovery ♥

Just to pop in and let you all know that over the weekend we lost our sweet boy. Absolutely heartbroken but we know it was the right thing in the end. 💔
So sorry for your loss the kindest thing pet owners can do is let them go when they are suffering .Grief is love with nowhere to go. I'm sure your precious boy is now running free over rainbow bridge. You will see him again ,take care sending you a big cuddle ❤

Struggling so much with a pet bereavement today, I wish I could explain more but I could be identifying myself, I tried to help someone’s pet and it died and I feel like there was more I could have done.
You're being far too hard on yourself, gembo. What you're feeling is not uncommon. You seem like a lovely kind person. Its human condition for those who have an affinity with animals to blend grief and guilt. Think about all you do for animals, not what you think you didn't do. 💕

I really feel for you❤It took me months to get used to not sleeping with my dog, I still kept leaving space for her. My cat sleeps with me now and I find I don’t sleep so well when there no animal on my bed. Sending hugs as I know how much it sucks :(
So sorry for you too, it's really hard when you have to let them go, I've been through this before, but this one, blimey has affected me so much x

Just thought I'd pop in to see how everyone is doing, with some love and hugs for anyone needing some ❤😘 you're all brave for sharing your stories and thoughts, however upsetting they might be and I'm pleased this thread is still going for all to come to, if they need some support xx

Just to answer a question too, most vets will come to do a home visit when the time comes if you'd prefer that, it costs an extra charge but we'll worth it. That's what my son did with our old cat. The vet came after surgery finished, had a coffee and a cuddle, she let son take his time saying his goodbyes and she'd have stayed as long as he'd wanted she was here nearly 2 hours anyway.

If your vet doesn't do home visits then register with another one that does, explain the issue, they'll come out. Xx

Thank you, I really appreciate it. I’m doing much better now and I have been able to realise that it wasn’t my fault and there was nothing more I could have done based on the knowledge that I had at the time. It was really distressing for me as I felt responsible for an animal dying but I’ve talked it through a lot and I did as much as I could have done. It still makes me feel very sad though but I’m glad that the animal isn’t suffering and it would have suffered a lot longer had I not taken the action I did. I do love animals, theres just an innocence about them and I would save them all if I could 💖

There are no words of advice, I've lost lovely pets , but my biggest one was my girl last year, she really got me, I look at a her photo everyday and say hello to her and blow her a kiss, bleddy animals, one of my biggest worries is if I die, who'd take care of my boys.

So sorry. We're all here for you when you need us xxx
Hi Maid,
There is an amazing organisation called The Cinnamon Trust who help with this. They are based in Cornwall but work nationwide. I have been a supporter and occasional volunteer for many years. They support pets when their owners become unwell or sadly pass away.

I cannot tell you what a brilliant organisation they are. They have given so much hope for pet owners with these worries like you.

So perhaps if it would be a good idea for you to leave details at home with the boys stuff to say if anything happened to you please call this organisation or similar.

I've left a huge massive letter detailing my wishes for my cat if I pass away.
