Perimenopause #4 post your woes

I really struggle with allergies to things that have been in my life for many many years causing hives and general skin irritation. Latest one is my aerosol deodorant that I’ve used for as long as I can remember. While I’m really glad I’ve identified the source I’m also bracing myself for the next thing my body decides to take a dislike to that will be difficult to identify
Happily my body has only become intolerant of one thing..

Sadly it appears to be my own skin...
So everything itches all the time

Oh no. I don’t think people understand how debilitating just being itchy all the time is.
My own sweat seems to trigger an allergic reaction from my skin which is just crazy

It's awful.
And horribly debilitating.
I have been so depressed with it and it can affect so many things - clothing choices, where I feel like going, my whole day tbh. It's just grinds you down being aware of your skin all the bloody time.
I'm sure my poor partner got fed up with me saying I felt so down as I was so itchy - it sounds a bit silly. And if he said one more time 'stop scratching' 😩 Oh OK I never thought of that.
And apart from this thread I just don't see it being discussed all that much tbh as a symptom.

I'm alao thinking it's other people's behaviour that affects my mood . Anyonr would be pissed off with the same behaviours. My moods are well justified and quite often an under-reaction.

Anxiety is driving me mad. I have an anxiety disorder unrelated to perimenopause, but it definitely seems that hormone changes have turbocharged it. Does anyone else experience really bad anxiety in the mornings? Mine starts straight after I wake up and usually improves as the day goes on. I don't understand why.

Yes! And I find the longer I stay in bed after waking, the worse it gets. I think it’s something to do with cortisol being highest in the morning. But couldn’t swear to the specifics. It’s horrible.

I'm sorry you're experiencing it too. When there seems to be no trigger it's hard to know how to combat it. Big sympathies to you!

I wonder if doing exercise first thing would help or make it worse? It might make cortisol spike even more, but I'm not sure. Confusingly, I've been getting lots of YouTube ads trying to recruit me into the army so I'd better start getting into shape. 😝

Yes, for me it feels like impending doom. Similar to Sunday night dread. And then I start to panic.

Anyone find in peri that they sweat more? Not hot flushes sweating but just heavier sweating in general. I would be a regular exerciser but wouldn’t have described myself as a heavy sweater. And I’m not sure if it’s because it’s been a fairly warm summer and I don’t think I’ve increased my intensity. But after a run or exercise class my bra is soaked, the back of my top and my socks - all wringing. Even my crotch area after a class this week. When I’m going home I have to have a towel and change of top in the car ready. 🥵

Yes and especially my scalp. I go for a long walk with lots of hills & the underside of my hair is soaking. I need to use the hairdryer once I’m home 🥵

Yes - the back of my head under where I tie up my hair. And my hair is only around collar length, the shortest it’s been in years.

It comes and goes but yes have noticed this and also it smells more - like I used to have to sweat quite a lot for it to smell but now even slightly damp pits and I’m honking altho again, it comes and goes. It’s not yet been a constant thing but definitely something I’ve noticed in recent months as my symptoms start to ramp up a little altho for me I’m very much in early stages so nothing has me suffering too much except my ITCHY EARS

Omg I sweat so much all the time - some of it’s due to being on sertraline

I’ve also noticed that I wake up feeling bleurgh and like all I want to do is lay on the sofa and eat cake but if I actually get up on time and do something I feel so much more like it and much happier. Why can’t our bodies crave what is good for us ffs

Yes mine is horrendous. The fear of going to work or logging on is huge. I do wonder later on in the day what I was worried about but not always. My job feels impossible right now. I should just get up as soon as I wake up but then worry about feeling tired later on.

Just posting for a bit of info really, for anyone not yet using HRT but thinking about it…

I’m almost 46 and went on HRT 3 months ago, I’m just into my 2nd prescription. I’m on the combined patch where it’s half oestrogen only and then the second half of the box is progesterone, so I don’t take a separate pill.

The benefits I really feel so far is the reduction of my anxiety- I am really not an anxious person by nature but the last 2 years I’ve been a nervous wreck for no apparent reason!
My anxiety is down and my general malaise has improved, I’ve definitely got more energy (I’m not leaping out of bed at 5am but I’m no longer lethargic again for no apparent reason!

My sex drive has increased slightly and I’m more up for it (not all the time but defo more).

I had my testosterone checked and whilst they are in the “normal” range they are only just above the baseline and so the nurse has said it would be worth getting a prescription however this can only be done by GP as I’m not technically deficient.
So that’s my next step, as my drive is still nowhere where I want it to be and also my brain fog and general concentration hasn’t really improved - which I understand T can affect a lot.

Physical side I feel a bit more “hydrated” as in my skin feels less Sahara, I’m waking up less in the night and my belly large seems to have reduced a tiny bit. May or may not be related but I’ve not put any weight on as such.

So that’s where I am after 3months - I’ve recommended to 3 friends to look into it as all 3 have spoken about anxiety and just wanting to lock themselves away - for no apparent reason!

I've never been a sweaty person, so much so that I had a reputation in my gym class for doing the most brutal workout without breaking a sweat. Now? I'm sweating just typing this out🤣

Oh gosh I just did a waffly update and I’ve mentioned this exact thing - it was my number one symptom
