Keep a diary for a few months, also weigh yourself everyday, the extreme weight fluctuations will almost certainly marry up with something else and you'll see the pattern a lot sooner. It doesn't change the symptoms but it does make it more manageable and you can apologise in advance. Look at the 30+ symptoms for guidance. I would gain 5lb overnight and noticed that my sense of smell was really strong around the same time, my mood also dropped significantly. For some inexplicable reason I can smell dogshit, wet dog or fish  I'm 6 years in and have had anxiety (never suffered before) insomnia, the matronly belly (always been slim till 46) the smelly's, depersonalisation, a period where I kept falling over, aches and pains.

Anyone having problems with their GP report them, no ifs, buts or whys, we deserve better

Thank god for this thread. I'm currently under the doctors to see if I am Peri.

I seem to have all the symptoms. But one symptoms is Gas....problems. 🤭 Along with bloating. Any thing I can do to help?! Some days are worse than others.

Does anyone else experience nausea and vomiting, particularly before a period?
Yes, I always have, more nausea than vomiting though, I only actually vomit occasionally now but did more when I was younger, it’s more nausea and then complete lack of appetite for me these days

Ah, so is it a usual premenstrual symptom? I had awful sickness when pregnant (hospitalisation bad sickness) but it settled down once I’d given birth. I suspect I’m peri menopausal and the sickness before my period is awful, can barely function. I got so worried I even did a pregnancy test even though that really wasn’t likely!

Did anyone get dry skin ? My legs and torso have gone like the texture of crepe paper and it looks like old people skin. The palms of my hands are dry too. This is rather recent.

My hair is less greasy but I prefer that.

Honestly, I don't think there is a single part of our biology that hormones don't play a part in. The sooner Scientists actually do some hard research, the better.

Is anyone else struggling to get the proper help from their GP due to their age?? I’m 42 and have been told that I can’t have HRT until I’m 45, despite having a LOT of symptoms of perimenopause. I’ve had completely unexplained anxiety for the past year; hot flashes/sweats; sleep problems; itchy skin; my periods haven’t been regular for the past couple of years… and yet the GP said I’m too young for treatment. I accepted anti depressants in the end because I simply couldn’t function with the effects of the anxiety (shakey hands, heart pounding, breathlessness…), but now the anti depressants aren’t helping 100% of the time - it very much depends on the time of the month etc.
Has anyone got any advice on how to deal with an obstructive GP? Changing GP surgeries just doesn’t seem to be an option now as no where is accepting anyone. I’ve made a couple of requests for HRT now… maybe I need to be more persistent?

Can you see a different GP at your surgery? Have you specifically asked for HRT and been refused, if so you can ask for this to be recorded on your records. I know hormone tests can be quite unreliable but have they tested for any underlying health conditions? Many women can be low in iron or certain vitamins. If the GP doesn’t have any reasons why you’re feeling as you are then ask to be referred to a menopause specialist, I think the waiting list is long sadly but it’s reasonable to ask for another opinion by an expert.

Niice guidelines are your friend, threaten to report them as well. What do they think women who have hysterectomies in their 20's and 30's are give, the utter morons

ETA The 45 is relevant for an FSH test not HRT, you shouldn't have an FSH test when your over 45. Personally I don't feel the test should be used for any age as it becomes unreliable once you are in Peri, it can be used to confirm that you are in Peri but cannot be used to exclude it.

Is there anything at all to completely stop my periods? I’m at the end of my tether with them now. They’re affecting every aspect of my life, mood, home, work. I can barely leave the house when I’m bleeding at the moment. I’ve just emailed the doctors literally begging them.

The mirena may help, I have had one for 15 years and haven't had a period for 14 and a half of those but it's not for everyone. You could go on the pill too.

Ask for a 3 month trail and if symptoms improve then they can’t say anything. Good luck 🤞🏻

Is there anything I can take non hormone to calm me down. I’ve always been very reactive to things, thinking ADHD but don’t want to push for a diagnosis. Or is it menopause? HRT doesn’t help. I’m 47 and haven’t had a period for 3 months so definitely peri menopause

I have been recommended the A Vogel Agnus Castus drops, apparently are amazing to calm you down and stop anxiety

Yes, this is exactly what im like, the skin on my torso, arms and legs is really uncomfortable and so flaky, my hair that's always been prone to being greasy is much less so which is great but the dry skin is terrible, I've been using a shower oil which has helped a lot but bloody hell it's lethal in there, like ice skating 😂 im on HRT and have been since March, i've noticed most symptoms have massively improved but the skin is my nemesis for sure.

I’m just 40, first lockdown I had a period that lasted over 100 Days. Gp gave me the tablets that stop your period. Was very irregular maybe 6 weeks between or 2 weeks ranging from heavy clots to light spotting. Started flushes a year ago. Currently not had a period since February…. But gp says it’s not peri or menopause
I could write something really similar. I started this sort of thing in my early 30s, but have a family history of early meno so thought it could be that. I had scans and tests, but no physical reason found for such weird cycles. The doctors basically shrugged and game me the pill. I most recently had a 40 day bleeding episode (you can't really call it a period, can you?!) and now I'm waiting to see when/if it starts again.

It's so helpful reading about other women's experiences, we're not so alone.

So if the GP says it isn't Peri then what do they sugggest it is!

I have been diagnosed as being perimenopause, my GP had no issue in giving me HRT. However, she wants me to take the pill or coil to protect the womb. Any advice which I should use? I don't particularly want either!
