Ladies I really don't understand PCOS 😔

I had no period for over 2 years and after putting off going to see the doctor (I assumed it was down to being overweight) I finally went and I was reffered to a gynaecologist and in the meantime recommended that I take the mini pill cerazette and confirmed PCOS through a blood test and ultrasound.

The gynaecologist then told me to come off the pill and take provera for 3 weeks to bring on a bleed which eventually happened and that was in August. I not on any BC and I have not taken anymore provera since August but started getting a period for around 5 days in September and October also. I assumed provera kick started my cycle again but this month nothing has happened. They were usually 5 weeks apart. I'm definitely not pregnant.

Sorry for the long post, any ideas what could be going on to not get anything this month?
I’m sure they say loads of things can delay it, stress, change in diet etc. Mine have always been irregular, I had 3 in a row that were around 40 days apart then the next one was 26. I think it’s just pcos tbh 😣😣 mine are more regular the healthier/active I am! When I was heavier they ranged from 40-120 days!!

Does anyone really struggle with hair loss due to their PCOS ? Is there anything you have found that has stopped it/helped re-growth? The front of my hair is breaking and falling out so badly recently no matter what I am trying and my hairdresser mentioned she thinks it’s hormonal.

I have quite a lot of hair loss at the front, and back - I had hormone tests when I was in my early twenties (I'm late thirties now) and went on one of the "pill"s (sorry I can't remember the name) that didn't grow anything back but seemed to stop it falling out. I've tried all sorts of pills and nothing works for me, I tend to wear a lot of hats, headscarves, and turban style twists on my head to hide it. Sorry. If you haven't had blood tests then I would recommend you tell your GP your concerns. I don't have nice enough hair to bother with getting it cut by a hairdresser anymore, so at least I'm saving money 🙃

Yes I’ve had awful hair loss in the last year with it. Recently I started oiling my hair with Natures Spell rosemary oil. Maybe once or twice a week and massaging it well into my scalp and leaving overnight before washing it out and I have to say it made a big difference in terms of breaking but hadn’t noticed much regrowth yet.

I also lost about 4 stone last year and my cycles became more regular and my blood sugar levels came within normal levels again. I do think that helped with the hair loss a bit but it was still pretty bad. I’ve just found out I’m pregnant though so no rosemary oil for a while!

I don’t personally but I’ve heard very good things about biotin x

I took biotin supplements, oiled my hair (not actually with rosemary oil at the time but I would now), used a silk bonnet to sleep in, used K18 for general breakage. I am still in a weird regrowth phase as when my hair finally did grow, the soft, short, curly baby hairs that I had all round my hairline all my life suddenly decided they wanted to be grown up straight hair and started growing out. Slowly. So a year on from the mad hair loss I still have this halo around my head of shorter hair.
If it were to happen to me again I’d probably do microneedling and look into minoxidil.

Thank you everyone for your advice/exoerience, I have been trying to use the hair syrup oils but maybe should be more consistent with them as at the moment I’m only using it twice a week. I have been looking at hair bonnets but not sure which ones actually keep your hair from breaking but will do some more research into one as I do think during the night my hair is at its weakest. I will also look into biotin to add to my list of vitamins I want to start taking every day too. I have heard good things about minoxidil, used to use nioxin system but didn’t feel like it done much but maybe with everything else together it will make more of a difference. Thank you! X

Silk is supposed to be the ‘best’ for bonnets. I’ve always gone for cheap ones off eBay which have been fine! Just bought some silk scrunchies from aldi for nights when I can’t face wearing a silly bonnet to gently tie my hair back in because I tend to roll my head around like a wild woman when sleeping so can easily wake up with matted hair!

Thank you, I’ll have a wee look at eBay and also at silk scrunchies, as soon as I wake up my hair is a complete mess and the back tends to Matt so that will hopefully stop the breakage at the front and matting at the back x

Has anyone experience with myo-inositol specifically for libido?
I've been struggling with a loss of libido for several years now and it's not improving at all. I feel sad about this, as I enjoy sex but am just never in the mood to initiate it.
I've tried agnus castus supplements a couple of years ago and they had quite an effect on my boobs, which got very sore and swollen, plus I had even more "milk" than usual at that time. After stopping that supplement the pseudolactation slowly went away. Didn't do anything for libido though.
In case relevant, I'm a "mixed case". I've the standard excessive hair and skin troubles, have been lucky weight-wise thus far and my insulin-resistance is normal. I'm eating fresh, homemade stuff everyday, so I'm quite sure that my diet is good enough and that my weight isn't anything that could possibly influence my libido negatively, but that it is the stupid PCOS -hormone-chaos itself. I exercise regularly and am not overly stressed or anything like that.

(I've a Kyleena hormonal coil which might be a contributing factor and I'm up for a replacement by end of this year, where I want to get advice from my gynae about whether a non-hormonal coil might be better.)

Maca root is supposed to help boost libido.

If you don’t fancy a bonnet you could try a silk or satin pillowcase to stop the breakage. I use both, I would start with satin as loads cheaper in case tou don’t get on with one or the other

I took myo-inositol and a huge cocktail of other supplements to help my PCOS/ help me conceive and being really quite randy was the only side effect I observed 🤣

I was told by the nasty gynae to be considered for metformin I would need to lose some weight myself. But when speaking to some others, it seemed I was the only one told this? I have a friend who saw a gynae and was put on it almost straight away with no questions asked. I truly don't think she could be bothered, she was around 70 years old, turned up 40 minutes late to the appointment so I had limited time to speak to her anyway :/

I've just spoken with my GP who said she is going to expedite my referral to another hospital as we have tried all avenues and nothing is working
I've been put on metformin and have been on it for around 3 months... I've now been told this should not be prescribed in primary care and only by a consultant... It's definitely working. I went from being in a calorie deficit and not losing weight (or putting some on) to now actually losing weight... In those 3 months I've lost almost a stone and a half!

Edit: it's also given me regular periods and regular ovulation. I used to have a period every 30-38 days, but would not ovulate every month. I would only ovulate once every 3-4 months. Not great when trying to get pregnant!!

Ah I'm so glad it's working for you!

Unfortunately I haven't gotten anywhere with my complaint regarding the awful gynaecologist I saw. I'm now on mounjaro and for the first time (ever!!) the scales are going down. I can't comment on how its effected my cycle yet as I haven't had a period since early December, but a lot of ladies on the MJ thread did say it made them more regular, which is definitely a bonus for someone like me who never knows when it might arrive:LOL:

I used to be on metformin and it really worked for me. I then had to taken off me by a GP who knew FA about PCOS. I’ve asked and asked several GPs since and they won’t put me back on it as it’s in my history that it was taken off me :(

I've been supplementing the myo-inositol for a week now, 2000mg. My brain says it's too early to notice any effects, but my ovaries give me very very insistant ovuluation twinges. I haven't felt this for over half a year, also haven't had a period for that time. I'm a bit baffled whether it really is from the inositol. I know the Kyleena IUD will have suppressed my period but I never went this long without one and even my gynaecologist was asking whether there really wasn't anything. I was afraid she was going to tell me I'm likely in perimenopause, I'm only 35.

I’ve gotten a period 😮 after 243 days, too!
It’s been three weeks on myo-inositol now, I’ve dropped from 2000mg to 1500mg about 10 days ago, as I felt my stomach was a bit upset and that seemed to do the trick.
