Just catching up with the pod and listening to Tuesdays ep. The constant ‘manic episode’ chat really grates on me!! As someone who lives with bipolar disorder and knows the impact a real manic episode can have, it’s really disappointing to hear the term used in the completely wrong way and made in to a joke almost? I know Josh has been open about his struggles with anxiety/depression in the past, so I think that’s why I found it so disappointing to hear him making light of something that can really affect people in a lasting way.

To be honest, as someone who has ADHD, we also can have manic episodes. They are probably a world away from bipolar episodes, but it is definitely a manic phase.

I have them when I don't have enough sleep /rest and overdo my workload so I do get where Josh is coming from because at its worst you're unaware of it then it spirals out of control as you feel invincible and able to take on the world.... Until it all comes crashing down spectacularly around your head, all the plates you've been spinning come clattering down around you and you're left like a zombie unable to do even basic tasks.

I don't know if he has ADHD (he does tick a lot of boxes but I'm no expert!) but it definitely fits with my experience of an ADHD manic episode.

The fact that he's recognised it before everything falls to pieces is very good, it's hard to apply the brakes but it is doable.

Lou is making me cringe big time with this book.
It’s not exactly topping the bestsellers lists in pre-sales… I’m guessing the agent has told her to up her game on insta to get some engagement going. But honestly I’m not remotely tempted to buy or read it. All I see on her insta is someone living an extremely privileged life who spends most of her time watching Netflix etc and planning her next Disney trip 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m not trying to be nasty here, just being completely honest in how she comes across to me these days.

It’s obviously not doing great on pre sales or they wouldn’t need Rob to be so involved at the evening at Waterstones Piccadilly. They clearly need his name and to be able to mention the podcast for anyone to be interested

Yeah I’m not being nasty either she’s neither here nor there but I think outside of the podcast if you heard Lou Beckett had written a book you would say “who?”

Which obviously is good if you want to maintain a low profile but she obviously doesn’t as much as she makes out as she’s agreed to write the book.

I would love to see the sales figures of the book. Is there anyway you can find out anything like that?

I have no idea what is actually in the book but it feels like it’s going to be aimed mainly at women. If like many of us feel she has no idea what it’s like to be a true default parent ie. single parent with no family to help out either, I think he target audience is going to be very limited 🤔

I’m mortified for Lou, the amount she’s having to get Rob to push her book.
Sounds like she’s wanted to be some kind of influencer/ blogger but missed the boat, then wrote that one piece about breastfeeding or whatever it was, then someone’s chirped in her ear about her writing, then she found her topic-‘default parenting’, then someone’s probably gone ‘oh you should write a book’ and then she’s used Rob’s contacts to do so. I don’t need a celebrity/ influencer/ famous person’s wife to write me a book about parenting- and if I did I’d want Helen Skelton (why she’s not been on the pod is beyond me- unless I’ve missed that episode!). I’d rather have a nobody write it. How am I supposed to relate to and sympathise with someone whose kids have been abroad more times this year, than I have in the past 10 years?!

Rob once again failing to come across happy / supportive of Josh when Josh was saying how he was enjoying January, and was sleeping better, feeling better etc. Immediately shot it down with how he “wasn’t coping” last week……….just say well done mate, happy for you.

Its giving - bitter.

I don’t know if many here listen to Oh What a Time but Josh has been a guest on two recent episodes on Devon. It’s with Elis James, Tom Crane and Chris Skull (who was on Quickly Kevin with Josh). Anyway, it was a nice listen. While listening you can tell there’s longstanding friendships there and they made fun of each other but in a not mean way.

I love the OWAT gang. You learn a bit of history with them, they’re often amazed by the info the researches have come up with, overall they’re just such gentle but funny people. Much more Josh’s wavelength in terms of banter, it’s never mean - its silly and fair.

Must listen to that one. He just did Class Clown too with Seann Walsh, love hearing him without Rob.

Rob takes things so personally. The lady commenting about him not being a runner - he could have taken that with a pinch of salt, she was clearly trying to have a bit of banter but no he takes it personally.

Also laughed at him being a bit thick and not knowing what a potato cake is - they're talking about pies then regional variations (Welsh Cakes, Potato Cakes) and he has apparently never heard of the latter and says "I prefer meat in my pies" or something. Thick as mince 😂

Josh is brilliant on this Miranda Sawyer podcast, reminiscing about the 90s specifically TFI Friday.

Also enjoyed him on Class Clown. I'll give the other recommendation a look too, thanks.

He's such a good guest isn't he. He is never able to get fully into flow with Rob jumping in every 10 seconds.

Yeah, I really think Josh has a talent for broadcasting via radio/podcasting. Not saying he's not good on tv, (and I'm biased because I find him very funny) but I've never listened to him on anything and not enjoyed his input.

Trying to unpick why and I think maybe because he seems very good at off-the-cuff jokes and 'quiet' gags?

I like them both and I think that if Josh was upset with Rob he would let him know. Some of the ribbing Rob was dead on the money like them moving after doing the kitchen! Also love Rob on Rob & Romesh watch it with my kids and we belly laugh every episode.
I agree I think Josh is great on radio, he's a music lover which you can always tell when he does radio 2.
