Oh no! It's Covid toe!

Soooo over the past few days one by one my toes have been swelling up and turning purple. At first I thought I must have dropped something on my foot without realising but then it started happening on my other foot. Today my nurse has told me I have "covid toes" and I'm on a course of steroids to try and stop the inflammation 😳

Apparently it's a long covid symptom ... I had no idea I had even had covid!

So I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this? How long did it take to get better? I can't even get my shoes on atm! 🤦‍♀️

My child recently had chilblains. Perhaps that's what you have ?
Googling chilblains brought up covid toes as they are similar but I don't think my little one had covid ( it is more possible they got their feet wet and warmed them too quick)

Eta - took a out 6 weeks to get back to normal

It does look similar to chilblains but I'd say my toes have doubled in size (the glamour!). The nurse was pretty convinced it was from covid and said they're seeing a lot of it in people in their 20s and 30s who were asymptomatic. It is really very strange! I've had no symptoms at any point so haven't been tested.

Same here my 7 year old had chilblains, also thought it could be covid toes but had no cases in school and she’s been regularly tested for antibodies as part of national research and was always negative. Hers also went in 6 weeks - she had to make sure she never walked round barefoot and kept socks or slippers on

Oh my god no but I had Covid last year and I’m literally just after telling my mum about my freaky toe?! Maybe it’s the same thing 😂 what are you meant to do about it?

Probably worth checking! I've been prescribed steroids and have to go for a blood test to check my inflammation levels.

Have you had the vaccine as i know someone who had covid toes from that

This would be nigh on impossible as none of the vaccines contain COVID-19 antibodies or genetic material.
But many of the adverse reactions are the same as covid. When something is tricking the body, the body has no idea if it's the real virus or not.

They are indeed similar as a lot of symptoms of COVID are also symptoms of other corona viruses so when the body sees the spike protein it will produce similar side effects. However, COVID toes is limited to COVID-19 obviously by name and hasn’t been seen in other corona viruses; therefore not one of the side effects produced by any of the vaccines.

It's possible, it was a colleague of mine, he showed me the photos, it happened within days of the vaccine ane his doctor has confirmed it was more than likely the vaccine
Another colleague joined the convo and said their partner had meted on quite a few elderly in theor care home also getting covid toe after the vaccine

Ethically speaking, a doctor shouldn’t be saying things like that as they don’t know for certain. There is no way to isolate the vaccine and prove that the person didn’t catch COVID or be experiencing it as a long term effect of COVID rather than from the vaccine. I’m not necessarily pro or anti vax and haven’t had mine yet but no medical professional can prove that’s from the vaccine. The vaccines use a generic spike protein coronavirus similar to the common cold and not any genetic material from COVID 19.

I don't think it's unethical to suspect a reported aide effect is the cause. The OP Has been told it was covid without any confirmation it is, is that not unethical then.
There are plenty of articles and studies online about the vaccine Lin with covid toe and covid symptoms/reactions such as shingles and herpes

It is unethical because they have no proof that it’s the cause. They have a symptom and a vaccine and have connected the two without considering that the cause could be Covid itself. You can still catch Covid with the vaccine and you can have Covid and the vaccine and suffer effects of long Covid. Reading online about the vaccine is harmful as there is so much unsubstantiated and often false information. To be honest I’m just sick of people spreading falsehoods about the vaccine and everything else. It’s harmful scaremongering and could put someone off having the vaccine who really needs it. That’s all I have to say on the matter because you will continue to believe this but maybe try reading scientific journals rather than google.

There are scientific/medical reports online about the matter. I'm not scare mongering or spreading falsehoods I was sharing some information i have with the OP who has since confirmed they hadn't had it at that point but it did flare when they did. If you aren't a doctor or specialist you have no knowledge or training to discredit or advise
I would take the word of a doctor above anyone on the internet. And doctors have every right to suggest it's a side effect as the do with any medication or procedure. My colleague was quite to relived to hear it was a side effect which has since cleared up.
