Yes actually they do need to be involved to offer support. Any parent going through mental or physical difficulty should be offered support. It shows you see social services as a bad thing judging by your tone. She may well be a great mother but she needs to undertake work around how to speak and communicate with her children without causing emotional harm. It’s a big deal and absolutely not funny.

Oh no it is. I don’t think I’ve explained properly. What happens is social services are alerted as it comes under information sharing in order to safeguard. And again only happens if the doctor knows the parent has young children and is not coping with mental health. 90% of the time social services don’t even make contact with the parent as it’s not necessary, it’s just an alert. If there is a lot of significant history or abuse in the home then the referral is actually opened and actioned.
