Notice Period

Does anyone think a notice period of one month would influence an employers descision of offering me the job?
I have an interview this week and fear that this would put them off 😣

I think that’s about standard - if they know you’re currently in another job they’ll probably expect you to have some sort of notice period anyway.

Good luck!

I am sure i can negogiate my notice period as others have done this plus i am owed holidays too.

A month is a long time though.

Yeah I know in my place we allow people to factor annual leave into it. We’ve also had people leave before their notice period has finished to start a new job.

When I interview, we always ask for people’s notice periods as it’s expected that they’ll have one. If they ask, you could tell them that you can try to negotiate it if they need you to. Or if they don’t mention it, at the end when you get an opportunity to ask questions you could ask about the intended start date if you’re successful and mention your notice period then.

A month is definitely standard. The only issue would be if you new employer wants people for an immediate start. Plus, with a lot of places, if takes a least a month for references and employment checks to be completed.

I think most places would expect you to possibly have a months notice period. I guess it depends on whether your current place needs that time to find a replacement or whether they would be okay with you going early.

If they really want you, it won't be an issue. In the past I used my holidays owing to negotiate a shorter notice period; I also offered to be available after hours and on weekends for a limited period if my replacement needed help with anything.

Most places are one month (unless you are paid weekly then I think it's weekly). My notice period is 3 months which is now quite common in my industry! I've not tried to get a new job but colleagues have and it's not impacted them

I really wouldn't worry and let it put you off the interview. I do a lot of interviewing and we know anyone in a job will have a notice period and that ranges from one week to three months so the place you are interviewing at will know that too.

Good luck for the interview!

It shouldn't because a month is standard and they would expect you to work the notice if things were reversed.

I was going to say the same.

1 month is pretty standard, my notice period is 3 months.

A month is pretty standard. My old job was a 3 month notice but I managed to negotiate it down using holiday and toil etc. If they really want you they will wait a month, it’s not that long! With a month being standard as well, they will expect you to have me sort of notice period

good luck with the interview

Nope I work in recruitment and a month is normal, quite often we have to work with 3 months notice.

Thank you thank you thank you so much for the replies! I feel better now 😁😁😁
I am owed 12 days holiday should I leave so I will definitly be able to use them to shorten the notice period. We have plenty of staff, its a call center so I will not be missed, i will be replaced within a week no doubt.
Stay safe everyone xxxx

I have 3 months notice period, one month is entirely normal and would not put me off the right candidate. Good luck in your job hunt!

2-4 weeks is pretty normal. It's never given me any issues with a new employer! You'll be fine.

Its because I haven't had a job interview in 3 years so I'm rusty and imagining road blocks everywhere. My current job was via an agency and they just told me to turn up, no interview just a quick typing test and I was hired along with others, I was then made permanent after 4 months.
Swotting up on the new company and all interview techniques 😊
