Notice Period

A month is completely standard in U.K.

If that was to be a blocker I’d be raising my eyebrow at the company if I’m honest. 4 weeks gives time for all employment/background checks, HR contractual work to be completed etc. Any employer pushing someone to not work their notice period should be treated warily. In my view, that wouldn’t bode well for a great company / boss to work for. 4 weeks is absolute bog standard notice for employees paid monthly.

Good luck with your interview!

Does anyone think a notice period of one month would influence an employers descision of offering me the job?
I have an interview this week and fear that this would put them off 😣
Absolutely not, most employers factor notice period into the job search equation and as an employer it wouldn’t bother me at all to wait for the right person

Its because I haven't had a job interview in 3 years so I'm rusty and imagining road blocks everywhere. My current job was via an agency and they just told me to turn up, no interview just a quick typing test and I was hired along with others, I was then made permanent after 4 months.
Swotting up on the new company and all interview techniques 😊
The main thing I look for in a candidate is how they will fit within the team, as well as evidence of good initiative. I also can't stress enough on how important it is for you to know what you want from the job and workplace. Believe in yourself and never say what you think they want you to say. If you're the right fit then it will work in your favor and you should really enjoy the job. I've worked in a really toxic witchy environment and it isn't worth it. I would always ask about the culture of the workplace, if they are all staying until 7pm for the sake of it or to look a certain way; that might not be the place for you. Straight out of uni in my early 20's I once had an interviewer ask me "how I dealt with bitchyness at work" I said "never experienced it" she was aghast and really pushed me on how I would deal with it. I was like...erm no thanks! huge red flag that it was a toxic workplace!

Can’t see there being a problem with it being a month. We’re currently for a director to start at work who has a 6 month notice period.
Good luck for the interview!

As others have said, it’s pretty standard. My husband had to give nearly 12 weeks as his last job and they waited for him.

If you have holiday you can always use that and I’ve know people to walk before it’s over.

By the time all the checks are done a month will have flown by.

This is why i am job hunting, my place is toxic, full of two faced awfuly snidy people, borderline bullying sometimes.

Years and years ago i had a kind of trick interview question once. I was temping but went for an interview at a new place on a Thursday. They asked if I could start the following Monday and I said no, because I would like to give a weeks notice and finish what was on my desk even though it was a temporary position it seemed unfair to leave them in the lurch. My new boss was super impressed with that and said it showed commitment.
1 month is standard. They may ask you if you can negotiate that down but most are happy to wait.

Notes!
Can I take handwritten notes to the interview in a folder? I have no printer access, would this be acceptable to refer to them?
I have modified and short handed them the best i can.

I don't see why this would be a problem. Its not an interview to see how you've memorised the facts it's to see if you fit the company and can do the job. I would make some bullet points in a notebook you don't want to be trying to wade through pages and pages of notes plus writing it down will help you remember them 😊

Well......

I only went and got the job didn't I!!

My one month notice starts on Sunday as they let me know when I was half way home this evening. Very excited! My tarot and horoscope pointed to this. Yes I am sad but I follow a lot of Youtubers who do readings, has always interested me since my mid teens.

Now my holidays...I have 12 left which need to be used by the end of May however, with us just been in February I guess I won't have the full 12 to use as notice will I? I think I may have 6 but I will discuss with HR on Monday.

Super super excited 😁😁🍷🍷🍷

Congratulations! Ooo with a bit of annual leave too. I did this and had a week off before I started at my current work place.
All the best in your new job X

Congratulations!
Some companies will pay you for your annual leave and some will let you take it during your notice period, so you could end up finishing earlier and have a few days off before your new job. Well done, I feel really proud of you and I don't even know you 😂

One more quick question...

Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day all fell on Friday and Saturday last year. I don't work on those days I work Sunday to Thursday.
The days were not carried over to the following Monday.

Will these three days be in my holiday entitlement or have I lost them?

I think potentially only Boxing Day holiday which was carried over to the Monday you would be entitled to. Because the others were on days you don't work you wouldn't usually be in so therefore you wouldn't have needed the day off. However, because Boxing day fell on a Saturday this year there was a bank holiday on the Monday (a day you do work) so I think you would get that one.
Hope that makes sense.
