Day 8

Yesterday was my youngest's birthday. I'd already prebooked tickets to take the kids to the aquarium, remembering to use Topcashback, using the birthday money to pay for them and scoring cheaper tickets because we visited on a weekday. We took packed lunches and were able to eat them in the cafe at the aquarium. OH felt guilty about not buying any food, despite the staff being fine with it, so bought me and him a drink for £6. OH had forgotten to charge the car to 100%, and forgot our cable at home so couldn't use the destination charger, so we had to make a stop on the way home just to make sure we had enough miles to get home. Not sure on the cost yet as it's just currently showing as a holding fee. Was going to get my youngest a toy but he wasn't fussed so we left it. Not too bad spending wise I think 😊

Id like to join the thread please if I can. I need to get spending under control and sort out our finances as we have more going out than coming in at the moment and nothing to show for it. Need to sort it as got a big holiday next year so want to be clear for that

Satisfying seeing my Monzo transfers for yesterday and today just being the automatic transfers for the 1p savings challenge after a heavy spend weekend (coffee with a friend, buying the 2 last presents for wee man’s 1st birthday - from Vinted so snapped up before anyone else could get them - and petrol for the car)

Day 9

Day in the office today, had leftovers for lunch so no spending by me. Unfortunately the repairman came to look at our washing machine and dishwasher. The washing machine needs a new locking mechanism and heat sensor, the motherboard and some other bits have gone in the dishwasher so is more cost effective to buy another unit than try to repair. Will be sorted Friday to the tune of £500 😭

Went to Lidl with good intentions of spending £25….spent £50 and they overcharged me on reduced items 🥲 I definitely save on buying my “Lidl” stuff rather than other supermarket branded items, but I think I need to reduce my deliveries.
It’s annoying using just eat/woosh for a few basics which cost more than usual, but then again I need to save money from somewhere.

Day 10

Grocery shopping day today so not included in no spend. OH did buy Greggs sausage rolls to have in the car because he was "starving" and "going to pass out" and he insisted on having them from Greggs rather than the refrigerated ones in the supermarket because the Greggs one was one. It was not warm 🙄

I don’t know how you cope with kids and OH’s just…spending money.
I feel a bit better as I’ve tidied the freezer. I can get 4 loaves in now, no bother. If I can keep on top of bread, I can live without other fresh stuff and have less deliveries.
Vouchers for next weeks Asda (with cash back) and £13 left…for 3 weeks.

Depending on how far the shop is, you could take your items back and request the price difference if they didn't scan through at the reduced price.

Sit everyone down and agree on spending limits for set time periods. This could be for a week or a month. If it's all spent there's no top ups until the next point. It just makes everyone more mindful of the spending.

If you take pictures and have your receipt contact them through the app. They should give you the difference through gift card and normally a bit extra as a 'sorry'

Today has ended the No Spend Day streak:

Essentials
£60 for the supermarket gift card for our weekly shop. The cashback from that goes towards mortgage overpayments.
£35 for the next term of a baby group we do

Non-Essentials:
tit morning with my 11mo so took him to a park this afternoon and had a coffee and cookie (reclassifying this is an essential actually because after the morning we had it was needed)

Day 11

Work from home day, no money spent 😊 Also completed an application for a new job which if I got it would double my income, so fingers crossed for that!

Splurged £14 in Heron and £50 at the vet then £10 on Shein. Updating my spreadsheets as new annual bills are coming in. Depressing.

Spent £18 for my mum’s Mother’s Day present (definitely an Essential) and £2 on chocolate and salted caramel hot cross buns. (Buns definitely essential because last Easter I had gestational diabetes so couldn’t enjoy all the Easter treats)

Day 13

Popped out for some bits yesterday. Needed nappy pants for my eldest, a whole load of painkillers for my OH and some bits to pad out our lunch stuff. Think I spent less than £40 all in and we had leftover nappy budget so it was covered 😊 One more day to go! Five more days to pay day! 🥳

I’ve put off my shopping delivery by a week. Bread is my most frequent thing to run out of, now I’ve made freezer space for it I can stock up for a week at a time. Passing the shops Tuesday so will get a few loaves, don’t need anything else just yet.
