I don’t think I’ll be rushing out to get one, I’m happy with my Steamdeck.
Same but also more to do with the fact that I bought the most expensive steam deck last year when I had some extra money and was able to treat myself. And now I don’t. If I had disposable income and money was no object then I’d buy it. But unfortunately not. 👎🏻
I’m still not using my steam deck to its full potential.

I've been thinking about it but I'm just not sure if it's worth it right now. I won't use the chat function. My OG Switch has a bit of drift I can't fix but...meh it's £430 with Mario and I just don't know if I'll get enough value out of it. Someone tell me what to do argh.

I got this email today:

I can't get one for love nor money. 😂 The above email from Amazon goes on to say that invitations are no longer needed to buy a Switch 2, you've just got to visit the site to check - ie like any other item. So it'll be a case if you're lucky and just happen to be looking when they come back into stock for 5 minutes.

I've got one on back order with ShopTo and they're not accepting any further orders for the time being, which hopefully means I'll be able to get one of the second shipment of consoles from there.

I've always managed to get Nintendo consoles on release day by pre-ordering before, so it's clearly very popular.

Currys are doing in store preorders only so you might have a chance at one since I would think they would limit the number of how many someone can buy

Cool - I might try that but it'll be a little while till I can get to a Currys!

Hopefully you can grab one, am not sure if they are going to stand by in store only or if they will only do this for a limited time before going to online, highly suggest you sign up to Smyth's email notifications as well, they have been releasing preorders in phases all week, I believe they released more preorders today again

Only a week to go now for the switch 2, honestly thinking about just restarting my ACNH instead of carrying over it's save to see if I can get back into it 😅

Was hoping I'd have heard some fire emblem news as well by now, itching for a new game, been replaying three houses but I definitely need something different

I'd like to pick one up but I've never been a Nintendo guy, and Its pretty expensive for what it is. Thoughts?

I think it depends on the games, it's how I have one, it was never gotten because of its specs since tbh they are still a bit dated, it's great for traveling but the steam deck could also be good for that

Really it would come down to if you see yourself wanting a lot of their games an are fine paying for them, Nintendo are expensive an rarely if ever have deals, I'll usually pick up mine in places like Smyth's when they themselves have offers on but you are still talking full price on some games that's like 10 year old, so I'd maybe take a look at their category an see if there's any that stand out that your only going get on their system an see if it's worth it that way

That's my thing, its expensive and I doubt they;ll ever get proper good third party games, regardless of what some Hardcore Nintendo cultists will tell you.

I’d honestly still get the big games on the PS or Steam. Indie games are generally on Steam Nintendo exclusives rarely come down to a good price.

Tbh I think they have mostly all of the same games as other platforms an are still working to get some, as far as quality goes though, consoles like Xbox an PS will always have far better quality, even with the switch 2 I could still see games play better on the other platforms, the quality difference in say hogwarts legacy is night an day compared to the Xbox/PS an I don't think the 2 will be much different, I think people were comparing it closer to the PS4/Xbox One which while it's ok it's not to the standard of current consoles

Mostly I get it for the Nintendo games which I think most do, their own are good quality due to them only ever being made specifically for the switch, any other games though I'll stick to other platforms since eventually there's deals an the quality is much better

The switch 2 is surprisingly well powered (for a Nintendo machine). It's not quite as far behind technologically as they usually are.

But games like GT6 I doubt will be coming out on it, or if they do then it'll lose many of the features.

A big part of why the switch was so successful is they could re-release all the wii U games that flopped. They're going to have to invest a lot more in games this cycle. Probably why they slowed down and they didn't need to put a lot out with mario kart 8 still selling so well despite being 11 years old.

Nintendo need to bring out a new Animal Crossing. That was such a big driver but I've not played it in two years now as there's nothing else to do. Also games like Dreamlight Valley are so bad on the Switch. So while my Switch is on its last legs I couldn't bring myself to order the new one as it's so expensive - need to wait and see if it's improved for the games I like to play. Mario Kart is not a big enough draw for me.

Yeah I've seen some comparisons of the Switch 2 version of Cyberpunk 2077 compared to the Xbox Series S version and the Switch 2 version is a little sharper. I didn't expect that, especially considering it's so small.

I expect they've got a lot of games planned. Animal Crossing is a dead cert, but may be a little way off. I think if it was nearing completion we'd have seen a teaser trailer by now. Zelda is probably the same.

I'm surprised they didn't make Donkey Kong Bananza a launch game. It's been included with all the launch material and, considering it's out in July, it's obviously finished and ready. Admittedly Mario Kart is one of their most popular games, but it did dawn on me the other day that it's the only game I'll be playing on the launch day, other than the higher resolution Zelda games.

Oh it's definitely well powered for a little Nintendo hand held machine, I was just meaning compared to current consoles it's not quite there yet but then there's quite a difference in the switch compared to the Xbox an PS

I am worried about the screen share an how well that will work, it looks like such a good add on for them an considering others don't have it then it's a fun novelty to have but I wonder how draining that might be especially if it's in handheld mode, from the commercial it does look to be a bit laggy but am hoping it's not going be one of those things that continuously loses connection an affects the game while it tries to reboot itself, hopefully it's something they can continue to work on with updates an its not going be a once an done thing when it launches

Apparently we may have a direct around launch time as well

Nintendo could make their consoles the equivalent of the latest gen if they really wanted to, but they've never really been about that. They make most of their money from their exclusives like Mario, Zelda, Animal Crossing, Pokemon, etc etc. So as long as their consoles are good enough to run those, then they're sorted.

I know they do release third party titles as well, but they're never the main focus. That's why I've got a PS5 and a Switch and will always get the PS5 version of multi platform games.

I agree about screen share - wouldn't be surprised if it's laggy. But then I doubt I'll make much use of it anyway!
