Well that was my point really Mark. Farage and crew just don’t say or think ‘plebs’ - I think that’s a really dated term and also just not true.

Nowadays it’s the Left who look down on the poorer end of society, dismissing their fears of not being able to access decent schools, healthcare or social housing as they see waves of immigrants arriving and being put up in hotels, given flats etc. I have friends living with not much money in London council estates who aren’t racist, just scared they cannot access basic things and angry as they see new arrivals being catered for.

I think, as you suggest, that it’s the Left who view eg Brexit voters as thick plebs, albeit not using that word. And it’s my richest friends (some with Coutts and Hoare’s accounts!) who vote Labour now, while the poorer ones absolutely don’t. The rich ones aren’t touched by mass immigration - they have private healthcare, private schools and private housing.

The council estate ones are now wondering who to vote for as the Tories are appalling now. But I think Labour not being keen to describe what a woman is will probably swing them back to vote Tory when push comes to shove.

I don’t know who I’d vote for now. Not a clue.

Yeah like I said- the type of people who mix are not the type of people who are the issue. They are often middle class and above, especially as they have the money to come here, and it’s always middle class and above who wax lyrical about the horrors of racism etc. Ahmed in your class at Exeter University who’s from Egypt and super cool and funny and invites you to his Eid celebrations is different from Ahmed on your estate off the dinghy who won’t make an effort to learn English, scowls at you, sits on benefits, then has a son who opens a halal butcher that replaces your town community centre. Nothing wrong with Ahmed 2 as an individual, but he’s coming in millions and it’s changing the fabric of UK society.

The Tabitha's are out there, living their best lives, handing out some pasta to the poors. 'Mon the Tabithas You rarely see the Tabithas working in low paid jobs in the third sector working hard to help people though, eh.

I think we'll probs have to agree disagree on what Nigel and his wee pals think of folk as I think they use the same people as fodder too and exploit those fears for their own gain. I don't really think they care about folk, I think they just like the idea of a white society more than anything else. The hotels folk are put up in are pretty grim from what I can gather and the housing is usually temporary (and bleeping awful; I've worked in housing) until they're allocated somewhere that they're generally not allowed to refuse. A lot of people born here rightly don't want to stay in those places (as they're dreadful, and why should they?). We need more money for decent housing.

I can't disagree with the views on the left and their disdain of working class people. I abhor the 'gammons' tit and I think the 'people who vote Brexit are thick', as well as being offensive, was an absolute gift to Farage and pals. The left are increasingly inaccessible to your traditional working class Labour voter as, realistically, how are you going to want to sit alongside someone who calls you daft and uses your own lack of privilege as a means of making themselves look holier than thou, when Tabitha is down the foodbank posting photos of herself handing tins of beans out to folk from your own neighbourhood but also calling you a gammon. It just doesn't sit right and you'd feel used.

The problem is though, Farage et al have used the same people, capitalised on fears and feeling disenfranchised and underrepresented and left behind, gone down the whole 'oof man of the people down the pub' carry on when they're pretty much cut from the same cloth. They don't really give a tit. You don't hear much mention of them wanting things to be better for disabled folk, for example, or creating more social housing so folk can live in nicer homes that aren't damp as duck. The latter again are just used when migration is brought into the conversation.

Yeah that’s the issue. Any working class white people who object to all the immigration are called Brexit voting gammons, and any higher class people who object to it are called fascists, xenophobes, racists. So nobody’s allowed to speak about it.
I agree there’s a lot of societal issues at the bottom that should be put into focus, like as you say housing, but the people in power just have no awareness as it’s not a political bargaining tool

It wouldn't surprise me that you come from an immigrant background yourself like me (my Irish parents moved here in the 60s). Drawbridge xenophobes are the worst kind of xenophobes, after all.

When my husband and i come to London, which is about 6 times a year, we always comment that the diverse culture seems to work there. Not everywhere but generally it's working.
Elsewhere in the country... not so much.

I voted Brexit. The ridiculous narrative around why the majority of people voted to leave is ridiculous and patronising.
I've been called a racist and small minded - xenophobic etc etc.
But no-one asks why i voted to leave the EU. They just assume.
I'm not stupid and i used my own experiences and judgement to make my choice.
I work in a government body and about 2013/14 we had to work on a huge project that ended up costing this country millions and millions of pounds due to eu law. What we had to do was costly, damaging to other sectors, time consuming, meant other things didn't get done and if we'd had our own laws, our response would have been far more proportionate and rational.
I hated every second because i could see what a farce it was - but we had no way out.

I also hated with every bone in my body, how our criminal courts could find someone guilty, sentence them, then they could take it to the European courts of justice who had the power to overturn our decisions.

So a huge duck off to everyone who assumes I'm a racist because i voted for Brexit. If you assume, you're think as pigshit.

Oh and the cherry on the top, I 100% support controlled immigration.... but I'm still not a racist. Mind.. Blown...

Some Tabithas will continue to vote Conservative as they always have done, irrespective of what they do & say in public (& this applies to other parties on the ballot box) because their true interests are vested in that party.
It’s a secret ballot for a reason & why many pre-election polls are wide of the mark once the results are in - people do not tell pollsters their actual voting plans & of course, some do not decide where to cast their vote until they are in the booth.

For the UK, I wish that we had the option to choose ‘None of the above’, at least this would encourage a greater turnout. There would still be a first past the post winner, but the constituency numbers would be more realistic.

Like many, I now no longer know who I would vote for.
The default party to get my vote are bogged in the mire without vision or leadership, & in all conscience I cannot give them, my second choice or other parties my vote.

I’d love to see some specifics about these loads of examples of racism and xenophobia. Farage’s is hardly an unusual viewpoint. An awful lot of people in the U.K. are worried about “boats in the channel”, about where people will go and how already stretched services will support them and the impact on local schools, hospitals, jobs and crime rates. Are they all racist and xenophobic too, for worrying about this?

And perhaps for you there are more important things to worry about, but that’s got absolutely nothing to do with other peoples’ concerns and campaigns. What doesn’t worry you might be extremely worrying for someone else and vice versa. Isn’t that wonderfully diverse! Lots of problems out there, plenty for all of us to get working on!

Yes it's ridiculous saying there's bigger issues. One person can't campaign for every single issue FFS! Makes sence to pick a niche. For some that's the environment and for others its undocumented people arriving.
In terms of the amount of public money wasted it's certainly a huge issue!
