Not just you - she is not at all welcoming, especially not to English people. The subtle xenophobia in Scotland makes me want to leave at times.
I love Scotland and have spent a lot of tourist money there in the past but I have no desire to go anymore. She is just so awful

I'm not rural at all but I think the rural communities are just pissed off at the whole situation as they were being shoved into the highest tiers especially after Christmas prior to lockdown 2 or 3 or 4 whatever it is when there numbers are so low and always have been. I know last summer they got absolutely bombarded with folk from all over, including more populated areas of Scotland because noone could go anywhere else.

I think theyre lashing out at tourists rather than government. This whole situation seems to have turned people against there peers rather than questioning what our Political overlords are doing.

Yeh I agree with you. It really frustrated me last summer to see people going over by the ferry load to holiday especially when you see how disrespectful some of the tourists behaved so I fully understand where the anger came from but it has made me feel unwelcome and we probably wont go again to be honest.

Suppose the minority of holiday makers have ruined for everyone else (usually the case)

I have seen it mentioned a fair bit on twitter that their plan is to get Angus Robertson back in, he’s the candidate for Edinburgh Central which is an SNP safe seat (he lost his seat in Moray to the tories).
Then Sturgeon stands down, goes out on a high and he takes over as first minister. Hopefully she will be forced to resign and go out with a scandal before the Scottish election

I completely agree with this.

I’m Scottish and I’ve voted SNP the last few times through lack of available alternative. I would dearly love to vote Labour, but Scottish Labour are... well we will leave that there! Lib Dem’s are also atrocious after they shot their own feet off. I genuinely don’t align with Conservative policies so I won’t vote for them.

A lot of SNP voters are in this scenario though: there’s no alternatives. It doesn’t make all SNP voters in the cult or workship of NS or any of them. It also doesn’t mean that everyone who votes SNP is pro-independence.

Sadly, no system works well without alternatives and a strong opposition. There’s no strong opposition to SNP in Scotland much like there isn’t a strong credible opposition to Conservatives in England. This creates a situation where Scottish voters largely vote in U.K. elections the way their voice will be heard: by voting SNP.

I would be wary of confusing all SNP votes as an endorsement of the hardcore independence contingent within the SNP ranks. Much in the same way I don’t compute all Tory English voters as being the same as the ERG- equally extreme on the other side of the spectrum.

Ultimately, lots of people seem to be angry at Scots voting SNP in. However, until other parties start to truly represent Scotland and build themselves back (looking at you Labour) then they don’t deserve votes, do they?

Tomorrow will be interesting.

I am in a similar position but NS has made it clear that any vote for SNP this election is a vote towards independence . So I guess Labour it is .

It is quite dreary isn’t it? When all our politicians across the U.K. are so shit.

I’m in one of the SNP heartlands so it honestly doesn’t matter for me. I still am so angry with Labour. What have they did to themselves?!

I don’t think I’m going to bother voting this year, I’m due to have a baby the week before so I’m not making the effort to go out (if I’m not in hospital), I know I could do the postal vote but I also feel like what is the point, can’t see SNP losing in my area may change my mind if sturgeon has to resign and the opinion starts to shift though.

The Independence vote in 2014 and their response to it did them in. The Scottish party is also just a bit outdated, they coasted by on getting guaranteed votes from those born in the 20s/30s/40s (my grandmother would have still voted Labour if Margaret Thatcher herself was the local Labour candidate!) and when that generation began to leave us and newer generations got the chance to vote, it just didn't appeal to the mass voters any more.

Some of their MPs have done the party no favours either - my local Labour MP from 2017-19 was caught doing a speech at a student Burns Supper using racist and homophobic language.

He’s still one of the best political orators around. Absolute own goal for the SNP this, they should have just had the evidence weeks ago, they’be created half the hype around this.

That’s definitely a good point. The generational expectation of voting Labour. My family were the same and now I know a lot of people have shifted to SNP. It’s amusing to me how Labour had an iron grip on Scotland and Scottish elected MPs to Westminster and that was fine. Yet, now their base has moved the Labour Party are up in arms about lack of fair opposition to SNP

@Yel I cannot bring myself to watch Salmond. There’s something about him that bothers me. Always has. Although I want to know what’s going on
I'm usually the same, but this political drama trump's any insta bint and their shady shenanigans.

He's had all the time to prepare for this and isn't going to lie down.

Yeah, I agree. I deleted that section of my comment as I thought I was opening myself up for pelters about Salmond

One thing I will say for Salmond- I agree he’s great at speaking. I really wonder how this will impact NS/ SNP.
Watching it now, he’s holding up very well here.

As an aside, I know a very anti SNP/NS person who is incredibly pro-Union views. To watch this person almost support Salmond is nothing short of incredible

Oh, Convenor getting quite direct with
Lib Dem’s MSP.

He’s done a solid 5 hours, love or loathe I don’t think his communication skills can be criticised, particularly when so much can’t be talked about.

Be interesting to see Nicola Sturgeon next week, she’ll talk the talk but I can’t see her getting though 6 hours being quite some calm, she gets irritated fairly easily.

Can’t stand Nicola but equally think I can’t stand Salmond more. I’m Scottish but haven’t lived in the UK for a good few years now. Don’t really understand what her attitude is all about. I know she’s a typical politician but I just cannot stand her anti England attitude she has.

Fun fact: my English teacher at school was Jack McConnell’s son. Weirdo.
