To be fair to her, I am preparing to have a breast reduction later this year and the consultant told me I would be in a lot of pain for a few days and would have to have at least 2 weeks off work, with normal activity resuming around 6 weeks later. I specifically asked about washing and brushing my hair and he said for the first few days it would be pretty impossible to do so and I should ask someone to do it for me.

I want to like her again, I always used to but she’s become insufferable recently. I’m also at her selling items given to her by companies like Gymshark. It puts me off Gymshark as well, I'm honest.

There are a lot of reasons to be put off Gymshark. Gymshark is similar to missguided in that they are brands founded by privileged young men, use a largely female garment production workforce and have made their fortunes by carefully promoting their products via influencers and online.

gymshark’s sustainability is woeful. Even the beginning of the brand focused on dropshiping (a pretty exploitive practice anyway). the sustainability section of the website focuses on environmental impact (no mention of humanitarian impact), and has very flimsy language and zero real impactful commitments.

both brands are awful IMO, they just serve to make men rich at the expense of women. But as long as Nelly can take a selfie in her #gifted bras, what does it matter, right? Nelly helps them shill their products and as such, is part of the problem. Helena/Nelly has no issue with promoting exploitative companies and making money from them, while simultaneously claiming to promote female inclusively and empowerment. If you are struggling to like her again, that’s a good a reason as any to struggle.

Second: I have a real issue with her preaching body positivity. Obviously I’m not disputing any issues she has within herself, that’s her jam and not for me to comment on. BUT I feel she does not ever acknowledge the privileges she has, it’s all well and good being ‘body positive’ when you have a body that is, generally speaking, a body that people are positive about and accepting of.

Helena/Nelly has a perfectly beautiful, healthy, normal body. It’s depressing that it’s hailed as “brave” to put herself out here with her body when it’s perfectly lovely? How depressing that women are disparaged for their bodies to that extent? And the sad thing is, she has gotten a lot of nasty comments at her body in the past too - so in some ways I guess it is kinda brave to put herself so out there. Why is a normal sized woman, posting her body, so triggering to these people?

It’s also depressing that Helena/Nelly isn’t actually all that unique or innovative in her content. Women are screaming for normal women and normal bodies like Helena’s to be represented, so that even though nothing on her gram is special or unique she still manages to accrue about 400K followers. The bar is that low that all she has to do is wear some bikinis and cheap bras and women rush to her.

I just skimmed through her most recent vlog and was actually shuddering at how rough she's being with her boobs.
