Ahh Mumsnet. Where OP thinks it’s totally normal to have a spare £1000 to overpay your mortgage with.

She was obviously just fishing to be told how wonderful she is for overpaying by that amount. She says later on ‘if you overpay do you see your balance going down quicker?’ Now, I don’t believe that anyone who has enough of a brain to earn money can’t figure out for herself that if you pay more off, your balance will go down quicker

- if she can do it, then do it regardless of what strangers on the Internet do?
- if she has £1000 spare then she must have a six figure job so some braincells to understand you pick up the phone and speak to your bank who can advise?

no one who earns that much can be thick enough not to work out that overpaying will lead to the balance decreasing

Am I the only one who thinks parents who put restrictions on kids phones are batshit? I know I grew up in a time when phones didn’t do a lot compared to today, and I don’t have kids, but I dunno it just feels really icky to me!

I have restrictions on my 12 year old’s phone. It’s really hard for them to self regulate, phones are bloody addictive! I find it hard enough to restrict my own usage as an adult. Also algorithms can show them all sorts of dodgy rit.

The teenage son of someone my husband knows got caught up in it. Drug dealers use kids because they know the police won't catch them easily and the kids will probably only get a caution.

County lines is a big problem where I am. Drugs are brought in via Liverpool and Holyhead.

Shrug - I restrict my kids phone time. They have to give them to me by 8pm and they get them back when going to school in the morning. (They also have to hand them in at school, it's a no phone school.)

I bleeping love Sostrene Grene. Their rock sweets are sooooo good. I often go to the Glasgow one before getting on my train and then it's anyone's guess if I get home with the sweets or they all get gobbled faster than a gay husband on a beef flute.

I'm really grateful that I'm an old fucker and smart phones were only just starting to be a thing when my son was at school. I used to restrict his internet usage between 8pm and 8am via the router and thankfully there wasn't much chance of him smuggling an extra PC and big old CRT monitor into his room so he could stay up all night arguing with people on FB.

I honestly think it's so hard for parents of teens now. If my parents had tried to restrict my usage I 100% would have been out there getting a second handset. I reckon evidence-based talks about how excessive use impacts your concentration and mood would have worked better with me as a teen. I was a stroppy little rebel.

I had a rant recently about a (middle aged, just including that for clarity) couple arriving to breakfast in a small family run hotel, in their nightwear. Her in sliders, him in flip flops.

I don't care if that means I sound like a mumsnetter. I don't want to see that.
