30 Years ago today, Tracey Mertens a 31 year old Mum, was kidnapped from her former home in Nechelles, Birmingham. She had recently moved to Rochdale but had returned to the house to collect a benefits book. She was driven to a churchyard in Congleton, set on fire and left to die. She lived for 12 hours, enough time to tell officers what had happened to her, but then died from her injuries.

Nobody knows to this day why she was taken, or by whom, and on the 30th Anniversary Police are again appealing to anyone who might know something about the murder.

I had never expected this to happen but one of my childhood friends has gone missing, I was contacted by his family this morning. Unfortunately I'm the last person to speak to him. Don't really know what to do

Poor man, the family will be tortured that he died alone. I hope he lay down for a rest and wasn’t in fear during his final moments.
I've just read that there's CCTV footage of him making his way down the slope carefully and then falling and he wasn't seen to get up again. Him being so close to people makes it seem worse some how.

Can't stop thinking about Jay Slater . The times I've gone to an after party with randoms i've met - when I was younger. There by the grace god I go - It could have all gone so wrong. like the earlier poster said when the drinks/drugs have worn off it can all be very awkward.

I don't think it will end well.

Have this downloaded to watch but haven’t steeled myself to do it yet. Might give it a watch over the weekend.

I’ve finished the podcast on Charlene Downes. I don’t know why I’d not heard about the case before.
I’m so angry on her behalf. Someone has done her harm and has lived a full and free life afterwards.
Her parents are an absolute disgrace and, in my view, those poor kids were so badly let down by their parents and by every authority figure that came into contact with the family.
It makes me sick to the stomach to think of the filth that they allowed into their home whilst they had young kids.
And I can’t help thinking that there’s a reason why they didn’t report Charlene missing for 2 days.
Oh to me her parents were absolutely pimping her out to these men. When was the last time any of your dads brought a rando home from the pub - let alone a series of p*edos? It strikes me that they were just as likely to have been as guilty of her murder than some person in Blackpool.

If they didnt kill her I bet they thought she had finally ran away - and didnt want to alert the police in case she revealed all to them.

I saw this on Twitter... I think of Andrew a few times a week. It makes me so sad to think that we will probably never find out what happened to him.

Another one is Claudia Lawrence... her poor dad passed away fighting for justice and nothing.

Personally, I abhor Go Fund Me, I'm sorry if that makes me sound heartless, I just don't agree with them.

I would agree, however, an acquaintance died of cancer last week, a young Mum with 2 young kids and a GFM was set up to cover her funeral costs etc and it exceeded its target in 24 hours. I do agree that it's over used but in the case of a family being left without their Mum it has its place.

They must do. From what I read the mum was
Reported missing at the same time but safely located. But no arrests. Some family cooperating some not. I wonder if the mum has given info about what happened to change to a murder? I mean she obvs knows something…
Following this case at the moment, there seems to be a lot to it.

The grandmother lied that she had last seen him with the mother in August. But it transpires the last actual sighting of him was in May 2 YEARS AGO! So the grandmother has clearly been lying and involved in a cover up.

His school was under the impression that he was being withdrawn because they were moving.

The mother also brought another child (her boyfriends son) to a meeting with Tusla (Irish social services) and passed him off as Kyran.

There is clearly a very complex case and I would bet there is a lot more to come out. Poor little boy dead for 2 years before it's come to light!

Anyone who is a member of that Facebook group should be banned from ever doing jury duty! 😬 No common sense to be found on there.

So the sky news article says that the people in the house he was at said he went out for a cigarette then came back in and said he wanted to go home. Again, not trying to speculate or sound like the nutters on the fb page but seems weird considering this same cigarette was posted on his sc story. Maybe things are different in England, but no normal 19 year old up here is posting a pic of a fag on their story because that’s a riddy? So a bit weird they made a point of mentioning something so minor, especially since he’d posted that same moment on Snapchat. Makes u wonder whether it was even him that posted it.

and again, yes people drunk drive but to drive to a festival, get full of gear and drink then drive back up mountains where the roads are tight and bendy and dark - again just not buying it. Also not buying the fact that the kind of people hosting after parties would be going there sober so they could drive back.

the bus stop was allegedly right outside this house, so what made Jay start walking into the mountains? If he isn’t daft like his family say, he would have surely checked maps before setting off. Or just waited at bus stop for bus as he claims was intended? Obviously wanted away from that house.

seems like a set up, people deliberately going to a festival where they know there will be young people under the influence, took a car with the intention to take people back to this isolated area for some ulterior motive.

the fact these two men haven’t came forward publicly as well speaks volumes, if it was me and I was innocent, and worried about the boy that was last seen at my house, I’d come forward to the public. Either lawyers hushing them or they don’t want to be known.

I’ve seen that article, it was awful how every single one of them avoided a custodial sentence considering he was beaten badly.
Yeah his injuries were so bad his skull was exposed. Disgusting. They should have all been jailed for that.

there doesn't seem to have been a single thing written about this since it happened? as a tldr for anyone who isnt familiar - young woman (her english name angela) has a 3 mil london property on airbnb, guy messages and wants to book it for a month (30k), guy says he's come over to london on a private jet, wants to view the property before paying. angela goes to a house party, then receives a text and hurriedly leaves at 4am. found stabbed in the property the next morning, drill music playing for 4 hours on an ipad.

so so strange and i don't understand how there's been no media coverage since it happened, i think about the case pretty often but haven't heard anyone else mention it 🤷‍♀️

I also think a lot of the people in the facebook group who think things 'aren't adding up' are probably naive to the ways of 'the sesh' and the weird shit people do under the influence / for the story. If he had made it back, it would have been a mad story he told his mates that he'd walked 10 hours after ending up at some randoms after party, what a lad. All these people saying 'why would he do this/that?!' are driving me mad 😅 maybe i need to stop reading haha

I know people who live in Tenerife and they seem to think it’s a common thing, tourists being lured up to the mountains with a promise of better parties than elsewhere in the island. Hope it is nothing sinister
