Missing my (ex) best friend

I haven't spoken to my ex best friend for 4 years now. I still have moments were I think about her but I can hand on heart say my life's a better place without her in it. That doesn't mean I don't sometimes reminisce and feel sad it turned out this way. But that feeling is getting less and less as each year goes by. I'm a big believer in life being too short to have crappy people in your life. My life is too short to have someone who gave me the most horrendous anxiety amongst other things. Just keep it as it is but realise that things often happen for a reason.

I recently lost my best friend of 10 years and I miss her so much but I also feel like she's the one in the wrong & why should I be the one to try and fix things, possibly get it thrown in my face and then feel stupid. But then I think life is to short and that I should reach out to her. We were practically like sisters, spoke every day, did everything together, very close to each others families, she was the godmother of my child. Then after her being single for 10 years, she met a man, fell pregnant almost instantly and it turned out he was abusing her, was a drug user and alcoholic and she completely changed. She completely cut me out of her life, I've not met her child, I haven't seen her in a year and not spoken to her since March. Whilst I understand that he is probably controlling, I also think 'how can you just ditch someone whose been there for you for a whole 10 years' for someone whose been in your life for 6 months at the time and is clearly a b. I don't know what to do about the situation really.
I would say try and keep lines of communication open and be there for her, no questions asked, if she comes to you. If she is being abused and controlled then this isn’t her fault, all his, and she could need you in the future.

If she was generally a good friend to you then definitely reach out. It'll be 100x more awkward and harder to get in contact a year, or a few years from now so suck it up because you know you want to! I've had a friend who did one thoughtless thing to me so I just cut her off. If she'd just apologised and not been so stubborn it would have just blown over.

I recently had this when my best friend of 24 years reached out saying how much she missed me and that we all need each other during this time. I was polite and wished her well but I think sometime things happen for a reason and I am happier without her, I have a lot less drama and she still won’t see what she needs to apologise for.

If you feel happier without her, I’d just continue in your life and if you’re meant to reconnect in the future, then you will. X
