I wouldn't touch this stuff with a barge pole ever again

It left me with mild hearing loss. This is quite rare. I remember everything (including water) tasting like metal. Also had a 24 hour fever on it and constant thirst

I had to beg to come off it. No one understands why I don't want to go back on it

It did help but I couldn't stay on it
Same still have vision issues from this.

Just had the suggestion of Botox along my neck and head from my consultant. I'm a bit reluctant.....has anyone else had it?
Botox literally saved my life. I’d be on disability without it.

After my migraines have increased in frequency and severity and I've needed my sumatriptan dosage doubled to even begin to get rid of one, I'm starting propranolol as a migraine prophylaxis this week. Anyone found it useful?

The pharmacist said it is a much nicer option than topiramate as a preventative drug, and reading this thread, I can see why!

I've suffered with migraines for years and years, it's hormonal as its always when I'm due on. I was prescribed Sumatriptan in January, it does get rid of the Migraine but it makes me feel drunk, unsteady on my feet, I feel spaced out and they make me violently sick so I can only take them before I go to bed to try and lessen the effects slightly. I work full time and have 2 children so I have to pick between the Migraine and it's effects or the tablets and their effects. I need to call the doctor and ask for something else, can anyone help with what else they may prescribe and what their effects are please?

Yes propranolol helped me a lot. I’m going back on it because I’m overdue my Botox. Yes so much nicer than topiramate. I would actually recommend against it almost and I hate to do that because it could work for someone else, the side effects were horrific. Propranolol did make me a bit more tired but also helped with my anxiety. Hope it works out for you 💜

There’s a few other triptans that you can try, rizatriptan and eletriptan I believe. I’m hearing a lot of people have negative reactions to sumatriptan for some reason. I get chest pains, a sore throat, and dizziness. Rizatriptan worked better for me. I now take Ubrelvy (I’m living in the states atm) and it’s better than any triptan in terms of side effects.

Mine have always been hormonal and absolutely debilitating. I’m in Australia and take Eletriptan. The only thing that works for me. Nothing else gives me relief. Saying that I feel like I have a hangover when it passes. I’m prescribed 80mg but 40mg works for me so I half them. Both strengths cost the same to buy.

I had quite a negative reaction to sumatriptam but I am able to take rizatriptan with far fewer issues.

I take propranolol 10mg (2 tablets once daily) for my vestibular migraines. Have been taking them daily for 5 years and it’s made such a difference. The amount of migraines I get has reduced dramatically and when I do get them they aren’t as debilitating as they used to be. Might be worth asking?

As a lifelong coffee drinker I was loathe to reduce it. I dont like tea or hot chocolate or sweet drinks but I do like water. I drink only a max of 2 coffees a day now and water the rest of the time and that has greatly reduced my migraines.

How do you guys feel before you get a migraine?

I've noticed I start mixing up my words and have mood changes, feel utterly exhausted mentally and physically a few hours before the actual attack. Anyone else get something similar?

Yes - I lose grip / become very clumsy in the hours before it kicks in. I pretty much drop everything I try to handle - it is so frustrating!

I’m going through one at the moment and I’ve been like you’ve just described for the last few days. I also have a runny nose so just assumed it was a cold starting until the visual disturbances (aura) began. I’ve never had a migraine without it. I’ve just woken up from a 2 and a half hour nap and luckily the headache isn’t as bad now but I’ll be feeling shattered for the next couple of days now. I find them so debilitating.

Hope you feel better soon. They are the worst and it's so hard to describe to someone who has never experienced it how you feel. Especially before and after. I always feel like I have a hangover after too.

Yes, my symptoms are similar. I notice my mood is elevated initually before one, then it plummets and I get slurred words etc and I'm very tired and then afterwards I remain really tired but feel very depressed. I now know that's my cue that an episode is nearly over. The change in mood is really awful. I used to get very snappy before one, quite aggy really, the total opposite to how I am normally.

Once I recognised the pattern I felt more in control of it but it horrible to deal with.

I’ve been so snappy with my OH this week and when I told him I was getting a migraine earlier he was like “Ahh! So that’s why you’ve been a witch lately”. He’s probably picked up on the pattern before I did 😂

Yes this is called prodrome. I sometimes get hyper and talkative but other times I get irritable and depressed, mixing up words and have a very hard time concentrating

😆 He sounds like a keeper!

I find the depression bit the hardest these days because I'm not depressed day to day (anymore) so it feels very sudden. I have to fight to tell myself in the moment that I don't really feel this way and it won't last forever.

In a weird way, I'm glad the mood change issue appears to be an actual thing because sometimes you feel like you're going mad. Whilst I don't want others to suffer, it is nice to know I'm not alone.

I find it difficult to find the correct words. Or as I say I cant string a sentence together pre migraine.

I spoke about micro dosing magic mushrooms here sometime back as a possible fix to the many migraines I was having. I did do this for a few months on and off but I also around that time cut my coffee drinking to 2 cups per day and drink water the rest of the time.

Which one of these things worked I dont know but I have migraines far less frequently nowadays. I suspect it was the coffee. I dont like tea or hot chocolate nor coke so water is what I replaced it with.

Edited to add I dont do drugs normally but tried the micro dosing due to frequency of migraines. Ie I was desperate.

I suffered terribly, triptans were the only thing that helped 😭 I honestly had 3 a week. I cut out wheat for something else (skin related) and I honestly get one migraine every 3 months if that! Obviously I had an intolerance I didn't know about but I just got fobbed off all the time and I lost out on so many years being in bed with the pain 😔
My migraines are directly related to wheat!!! When I was younger I thought it was just period related, but as the years went by it got progressively worse…the drs couldn’t figure it out, eventually a friend pursuaded me to have an allergy test! Wheat give me instant migraines, cow dairy (lactose) makes me vomit! At the time I was told I may eventually be able to reintroduce these things later in life, 25years later having a take away and getting glutened AND dairied, I can categorically state I cannot reintroduce them!!

I had to cut out wheat as well and am now gluten intolerant

It's funny because the drs always told me it couldn't be related, I really had to put forward a case for it. Even the neurologist was a bit sceptical
