TBH I think there is a certain type of personality absolutely desperate to prove they can still live their previous life after they have kids. In my experience you simply can't. If you're lucky enough not to have a colicky newborn who is a good sleeper then maybe yes, in those early days it's easy enough to do the things you did before as they are non mobile and asleep most of the time. But I think it would take a very strange type of person not to experience an absolutely seismic emotional shift after having a baby. It fundamentally changes you. Maybe if you aren't a very sensitive person it doesn't do that but I have had three babies and honestly find it impossible to understand how you could *not* be overwhelmed after having one, emotionally if nothing else. Certainly it's most noticeable with the first but I've had it after each of mine. And my youngest was a dream as a newborn! He has just turned two now and those days are long gone
