Naproxen is nasty, I had it for costochondritis and even with omeprazole I only lasted a couple of weeks on it.

Has anyone got a link to the Doctors texts after the event of MP passing away? I can only imagine they knew the game was up …

I still can't watch any Friends episodes yet...🥹

I'm saying the obvious, but i know Chandler wasn't 'him', possibly makes it even worse knowing he played the character so perfectly when he was obviously so troubled.
I can’t either. He was a comic genius and so hugely likeable.

I dunno but Lisa Kudrow’s comment after he died ‘he must have taken something that didn’t agree with warm water’ resonates. At the time, it seemed somewhat insensitive but now it seems shocking he was anywhere near the damn pool being so heavily sedated. Also, makes you wonder if they (Friends cast) knew well he was far from sober but couldn’t help him. I think the addiction made his world very small because of the necessity to hide it. He probably studiously avoided his old pals and surrounded himself with enablers and suppliers instead. Perfectly understandable - you don’t want to keep lying to people so you ignore them completely.

They must have known. That reunion video they did, he looked absolutely wrecked - physically and mentally - and Jennifer in particular looked genuinely worried and upset. You only had to look at him in the last few months of his life to know that he was beyond help. All the money in the world but the only person who could help him was himself.

I’ve watched it but I can’t see myself ever watching the reunion again 😔

I have a Naproxen prescription for occasional use for osteoarthritis and the doctor refused to renew the prescription until I agreed to continue taking Omeprazole while on Naproxen.

I'm in the UK.
Yes I’ve had a short-course prescription recently and had to take Omeprazole too. The NSAIDs can really cause GI problems otherwise.

If it makes you feel better I’m a serial Friends watcher and I haven’t had the courage to either 😞😞

He was a writer for the show as well, so some of Chandler could've been him. Loved that show.

My daughter is on a re watch and we’re up to the episodes where he has his goatee- I can barely look at the screen after his comments.

Of course they knew. Even ignoring that Perry's issues were public and made headlines, you can't work in close proximity with someone for 8-10 hours a day for a decade and not have a single person in the organization notice that he was having problems.

I think that poster meant whether he knew he wasn’t sober around the reunion time

We already know they knew during the show because he went to rehab multiple times, storylines were changed to suit and confronted him about his drinking

I don’t want to derail but have chronic pain and considering naproxen, in what way is it nasty? Do you mean ref stomach damage?

Exactly. It’s the claim of him being 18 months sober that’s the concern. They could have been well aware, for example, that he was on prescribed ketamine - with full medical supervision - for anxiety and depression. That, they were probably aware of and judging by Kudrow’s comment it makes sense (he had taken something that didn’t mix with warm water).

The extent of the addiction, the amount spent on obtaining it covertly, the insatiable need for more and more supplies, all came out after his death and would have shocked them to the core, imo.

Well, if he was receiving prescribed drugs for the past 18 months then he was still sober?

Didn't the reports say that it was only a few weeks before he died that doctors stopped prescribing him ketamine and that this is why he bought it illegally?

So it could have been true that he was sober when he was writing and promoting his book, but was getting prescription drugs that were prescribed to him by his doctors.

Yes it's very harsh on your stomach unless you take with a good amount of food in your system and the omeprazole regularly.

Didn’t they say that he failed to turn up for his prescribed ketamine appointment and we speculated that perhaps he was afraid they would be able to tell the amount of illegally sourced ketamine was in his system?

I agree with you, though, that during the promo of the book, he seemed sober. It was a very demanding schedule of constant interviews and he seemed to be strong and healthy.

I wondered about the choice of song at his funeral but just came across an interview whereby he was asked if you could choose a soundtrack of your life, what would it be? and he replied Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush Don’t Give Up. He said the camera goes round and around them while they hold eachother for the entire song and he said that when he signs the books, he always writes Don’t Give Up. Obviously, this is why it was the song picked. 😢

Honestly, I question if he was ever sober. When you abuse prescribed meds, you are still not sober. It’s such a shame, he was my favourite character too, and now I just can’t with him. The book he wrote put me off him-I didn’t get past about chapter 2, and now all the details about his life. Its very sad, but I find myself with little sympathy for him.
